Even when shot his chin is still one of the top five in the heavyweight division ( Toney won the fight with body shots, didn`t effect Evander`s chin ). Soldier01 06-01-2005, 04:53 PM Cotto??????? are u ****in serious, he was out on his feet from a single punch from Corley. Are YOU ****ing serious???? Cotto was hit in the temple, that wasn't a chin shot. Cotto was walking thru Corley's punches during that fight. jack_the_rippuh 06-01-2005, 05:02 PM Lol............. Soldier, when they say chin they mean boxers who can take a punch on the head, not necessarily the chin. Mr-Jamil 06-01-2005, 05:16 PM marvin hagler aaron pryor sugar ray leonard jeff lacy micky ward Bad Intentions 06-01-2005, 05:33 PM Lol............. Soldier, when they say chin they mean boxers who can take a punch on the head, not necessarily the chin. lol exactly, it doesnt matter where it was, it was ONE punch that made him out on his feet , that must mean he dont take a good punch to well. That fight shoulda been stopped. !! Mr. Soprano 06-01-2005, 05:39 PM Here is 10, not 5 Foreman Holyfield De La Hoya Toney Morales Tyson Sanders Brwester Pacman Tszyu And can you people stop saying Klitchko. I say that as a fan! bfg 06-01-2005, 05:41 PM My top five: 1)Eric Morales 2)Julio Caesar Chavez 3)Marvin Hagler 4)Hopkins 5)Mickey Ward Soldier01 06-01-2005, 05:57 PM Lol............. Soldier, when they say chin they mean boxers who can take a punch on the head, not necessarily the chin. I don't know what kind of terminology you're using but, When someone talks about chin it should be Jaw,cheeks, eyes, forehead etc... And In response to "Bad Intentions", I don't think anyone can take a perfectly placed punch on the temple and act like nothing happened. That shouldn't affect the reputation of a boxers chin. Red_Menace 06-01-2005, 06:29 PM If we're talking all-time, then the Bronx Bull wins. Boxingfan81 06-01-2005, 06:43 PM Cotto??????? are u ****in serious, he was out on his feet from a single punch from Corley. Are you serious about tyson being on there, he has LOST by knockout compared to cotto who has NEVER been down! I don't want to hear if he was a better finisher, blah blah ****in blah, shoulda coulda would, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! SUPER ZAB FAN 06-01-2005, 07:54 PM Tyson has also foght twice as many fights as Cotto . In the division Cotto is in he will see a knockout real soon you dont have to worry about that. Unless his friends down at Hbo keep giving him his taylor made opponents. You cant honestly believe he is the best at 140 ? Boxingfan81 06-01-2005, 09:05 PM Tyson has also foght twice as many fights as Cotto . In the division Cotto is in he will see a knockout real soon you dont have to worry about that. Unless his friends down at Hbo keep giving him his taylor made opponents. You cant honestly believe he is the best at 140 ? Please show me where I said he was the best at 140? SUPER ZAB FAN 06-01-2005, 09:09 PM I was just making the point that he is not the best in his division , he was staggered by by the workman like Chop chop Corley. A Ko loss is in his near future . sisforshaq 06-01-2005, 09:10 PM No order Marvin Hagler Micky Ward Ricardo Mayorga Aaron Pryor Oscar De La Hoya !! Mr. Soprano 06-01-2005, 09:20 PM Good Chin is not based on the number of times a boxer has been knocked down/out, but on the amount of punishment he can sustain in the had/chin/face (you define what good chin is) before he goes down. This is why I said Sanders has a great chin.. after all those strait power shots that clearly landed when he fought V. Klitchko... But Cotto, the fact that he hasn't been down doesn't prove he has a good chin. It shall remain unknown until proven. (Can't speak for sure as I haven't seen all of his fights) De La Hoya has never been knocked down, at least from a head shot.. and that body shot Hopkins landed.. I think it was a circus show !! Mr. Soprano 06-01-2005, 09:22 PM Here is 10, not 5 Foreman Holyfield De La Hoya Toney Morales Tyson Sanders Brwester Pacman Tszyu And can you people stop saying Klitchko. I say that as a fan! BTW, I would also add TOS Byrd Mosley to my list xKillingJokex 06-01-2005, 10:30 PM how bout adding Jose Luis Castillo..dude can take some hellacious punches NiGe2011 06-01-2005, 11:22 PM Winky Wright and Manny Pacquiao both have pretty good chins as well. Also, to the best of my memory (although he is not that prominent anymore) David Tua could take one hell of a shot. Yogi 06-02-2005, 12:16 AM Cotto??????? are u ****in serious, he was out on his feet from a single punch from Corley. This question coming from a guy who named Mike Tyson as having one of the five best chins even though Tyson himself was "out on his feet from a single punch" from Frank Bruno in their first fight, when a single left hook from Bruno in the first round definately buckled or wobbled Mike's legs and forced him to throw himself into a clinch and hang on for dear life. Tyson wasn't hurt as long as was Cotto, but it was obvious to anyone watching that fight that he was hurt for more than a few seconds, or "out on his feet"...All from one single punch! oldgringo 06-02-2005, 12:51 AM Good Chin is not based on the number of times a boxer has been knocked down/out, but on the amount of punishment he can sustain in the had/chin/face (you define what good chin is) before he goes down. In the division Cotto is in he will see a knockout real soon you dont have to worry about that. Unless his friends down at Hbo keep giving him his taylor made opponents. You cant honestly believe he is the best at 140 ? I believe Cotto WILL be the best at 140. Just my humble opinion. I know that Tszyu and Floyd are better right now but give Cotto another fight or two and I think he's right there. Yogi 06-02-2005, 01:00 AM Quartey floored Oscar in the 6th round of their fight. Yes he was. DLH was also knocked down a couple of other times earlier in his career, when he was still campaigning at Jr. Lightweight or Lightweight (the names of those who did it have left me, but can be checked on by those interested). oldgringo 06-02-2005, 01:01 AM Yes he was. DLH was also knocked down a couple of other times earlier in his career, when he was still campaigning at Jr. Lightweight or Lightweight (the names of those who did it have left me, but can be checked on by those interested). Wasn't it his first title fight at 135? I forget the guys name...like Rodriguez or something. Yogi 06-02-2005, 01:03 AM Wasn't it his first title fight at 135? I forget the guys name...like Rodriguez or something. My curiosity has now gotten the better of me... *off to boxrec* SUPER ZAB FAN 06-02-2005, 01:04 AM In my opinion HBO grooms there fighters , with handpicked Opponents . I liked Cotto for a while i thought we was a tough up and comer , but after see him visibly shaken by Corley ( A man who i have never seen shake anybody ) I have doubts as to how tough he really is . 140 is filled with tons of talent also 147 , I just cant see him standing out in this division . A Fight with Kosta or maybe Vivian HArris would prove this Yogi 06-02-2005, 01:07 AM Wasn't it his first title fight at 135? I forget the guys name...like Rodriguez or something. The two guys who knocked DLH down earlier in his career were Narcisco Valenzuela (lightweight bout) and Giorgio Campanella (WBO Jr. Lightweight title bout). Both of those trips to the canvas by DLH happened in the first round of each of those fights. oldgringo 06-02-2005, 01:27 AM The two guys who knocked DLH down earlier in his career were Narcisco Valenzuela (lightweight bout) and Giorgio Campanella (WBO Jr. Lightweight title bout). Both of those trips to the canvas by DLH happened in the first round of each of those fights. Valenzuela thats the one I was thinking of. Even though Rodriguez and Valenzuela are completely different I could still see the fight in my head (Oscar getting up very hastily in his youth). Oscar was really something to watch at 135. rogue_warrior 06-02-2005, 03:05 AM I don't know what kind of terminology you're using but, When someone talks about chin it should be Jaw,cheeks, eyes, forehead etc... And In response to "Bad Intentions", I don't think anyone can take a perfectly placed punch on the temple and act like nothing happened. That shouldn't affect the reputation of a boxers chin. Sorry bro, but you are indeed wrong. When referring to 'chin' or 'beard' one is speaking about neck and above. Temple is indeed included. While it is true that the temple is a switch, fighters have different degrees of tolerance. tommyhearns804 06-03-2005, 09:43 PM lol yep tyson has a great chin.that is why he was knocked out 4 times in his career.nothing better than showing how tough you are then being knocked out by a bum in buster douglas a blown up crusierweight and well its not shame to be knocked out by lewis but then he got knocked out again by a bum in danny williams foreman knocked down 3 or 4 times hagler never knocked down tua never knocked down mccall never knocked down chuvalo never knocked down Manny_P 06-03-2005, 09:48 PM a. Clifford Ettienne 4. Antonio Diaz 5. Ramon Campas yep, this list is even better NiGe2011 06-03-2005, 11:33 PM Don't forget Wayne Martel the "indian warrior" (quote from Zab) who fought Judah in the Garden and was knocked down five times in the first round before the fight was stopped. That should also be considered an all time great beard. Grimgash 06-04-2005, 02:34 AM lol yep tyson has a great chin.that is why he was knocked out 4 times in his career.nothing better than showing how tough you are then being knocked out by a bum in buster douglas a blown up crusierweight and well its not shame to be knocked out by lewis but then he got knocked out again by a bum in danny williams foreman knocked down 3 or 4 times hagler never knocked down tua never knocked down mccall never knocked down chuvalo never knocked down Fact isn't that he was knocked out, he could have been knocked out 15 times and still have a good chin. Watch the fights again, Tyson gets wailed on by tons of punches before falling. Knocked down or out isn't what makes a chin, its how much it takes for you to be knocked down or out. onetwopunch 06-04-2005, 04:22 AM Marvin Hagler Jose Luis Lopez Ray Mercer Mike Tyson Bernard Hopkins Truth 06-04-2005, 10:09 AM Marvin Hagler Jose Luis Lopez Ray Mercer Mike Tyson Bernard Hopkins I agree Tyson has a great chin, thats an accurate list. += El Jefe=+ 06-04-2005, 10:14 AM Quartey floored Oscar in the 6th round of their fight. yeah but he has only been down like 2 or three times in his carrer Inhaler 06-04-2005, 12:50 PM Holyfield, Golota, Tua, Ibeabuchi, and Roy Jones. |
