CALVIN BROCK impresses and shows heart in a UD
---------------------------
That first round kind of had me on the edge of my seat...these guys are throwing with intention...no Gatti/Ward of course...but better than I expected...Jameel is fighting confidently which is a surprise and so is Brock...no fear

TyrantT316
04-23-2005, 09:57 PM
Brock impressed in the second round landing combinations and crisp shots...a heavyweight who throws with intention, uses his feet, and throws combinations...hmmm...lets just see his chin

TyrantT316
04-23-2005, 10:06 PM
round 4 was close and could have gone either way...Brock should do more on the inside...he holds his own decent from the outside...but should try more inside...though McCline puts ALL of his weight on Brock...

McCline falling and using his weight to clinch all over Brock...kind of put Brock in a headlock there...

the ref stops the action to warn McCline about the holding...Brock wins the 5th round in my book...the bell rings...Brock kind of puts his glove out to tap McCline and McCline takes it the wrong way and pushes Brock...Brock doesn't respond...

with Brock...I love seeing a HW throw combos

Brock doing well in the 6th...McCline puttitng ALLLLLLLLLL of his weight on Brock...but Brock is hanging in there and throwing combinations from the inside...I think Brock can beat McCline inside and out...

he is having a hard time looking spectacular because McCline is leaning everything on him, but Brock is doing well for the size difference

Brock should win the fight...pretty close...but Brocks should win...

this is the type of fight we need to see when assessing a prospect like Brock and I think he showed a lot...

heart, determination, his chin held up a bit, when he went down in the 7 he came back strong to nearly send McCline down, and he is a HW who throws combos throughout the fight...

BROCK WINS BY A COUPLE-FEW POINTS - UD

he got off the floor to win as Atlas said...

and he also made a point that old timers say that is the mark of a true potential top fighter...to be tested, go down, get up, go strong, and win...

I can't help but feel bad for Jamile. He's a genuinely nice guy, but he lacks real confidence in himself. I worry after his comments about being nothing without boxing.

Brock put on a great performance. I can't wait to see him in there again.

I just hope McCline is ok after this. He strikes me as someone prone to depression.

interesting thing is...Brock may not have been able to show his entire arsenal is because McCline was leaning everything on him...but Brock stayed in there to the end and was still throwing hard shots....combinations nontheless

Vitali keeps his distance more and is a lot more accurate...so that would be tough for Brock....we would need to see more from Brock

I had it 7 rounds to 3 for Brock.

I agree with Teddy about the 7th being only 10-9 for McCline.

I think Brock fought well, but made the mistake of trying to push back / move McCline around too much in the clinches. I think that cut into his wind, and as a result, he couldn't throw as many shots as he could have otherwise.

Brock is a good fighter, but needs to be better conditioned should he want to take the next step up.

I thought that about Peter, too, until I saw him KO Jeremey Williams. Yes we can all agree that Jeremy Williams is a **** fighter, but Williams had ducked out and was beside Peter. Peter had to throw that punch all the way across his body, which requires speed and, more import, great awareness of his environment.

Samuel Peter is going to go great things for boxing. You can knock him now, but the guy is going to be the Marciano of his times. Sure he's limited, but he has so many other things going for him. The skill will develop some with time. He has many favorable attributes going for him that other heavyweights would kill for.

That may be going a little too far. There's definitely potential for some exciting fights, but I don't see Peter as an all-time great.

Yeah.....he is a decent fighter man. The only thing is, he is extremely 1 dimmensional. He can take a punch, and definitely shell one out. If he were to face a fighter as athletic and skilled as Wlad or his brother, he would get knocked out. He is far too slow and has no defense to his credit. He likes to block punches with his shoulders, but I dont think that would be enough to win a fight with either of the klitchkos. The chances of him actually catching a fighter (decent one) with a punch is minimal at best.

If he fought the Wladimir that beat Castillo tonight, he would get beaten bloody and stopped just like Wlad stopped Ray Mercer. Peter does throw combinations, but I dont think they are accurate and fast enough to punish someone this skilled. He looked great against Jeremy Williams, but Jeremy is a extremely mediocre fighter. He would have to really weather a storm against the better heavyweights in order to be labeled "a Marciano of his times".

Not to take away from him Achilles.....I know you like him as a fighter, and I do think he will make a name for himself (already has), but will run into a wall if he fights a highly skilled opponent.

Kid Achilles
04-23-2005, 11:45 PM
We'll see. I am a huge Marciano fan myself but when he was where Sam is in his career now very few people saw him as a potential all time great either. It remains to be seen if Peter really has the heart, grit, and balls to stand up to the punishment he will be absorbing with his style, but physically he's all there. He just needs to trim down a little; he's a bit soft.

I know it's an out there kind of statement, perhaps fueled by the barren nature of the current heavyweight scene, but I really do have a gut feeling that Sam is going to dominate this division.

If he lands one of his haymakers on any fighter, they are finished. He is the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division, Bar none.

McCline looked the worst that I have ever seen him, and the Boxing Banker really surprised me. He looked much better than he has in the past. Getting up from the KD and dominating the rest of the round also really impressed me.
