Tyson fans act like Kevin Rooney was the greatest trainer ever. I say if he is such a great trainer then he would have alot of fighters knocking down his door for him to train them.

Wow, bud! Go rent one of the autobiographies of Mike's life. Rooney was his first trainer, worked for Cus D'Amato. When Cus died, the vultures appeared and led Mike to fire Rooney. Most think that this was the beginning of the end for Tyson.

Kevin Rooney was the assistant of Mike's original Trainer, Cus D'Amato. He (D'Amato) basically created Mike, so he knew him best. Cus D'Amato could get into Mike's head and make him do anything, Kevin Rooney could as well. Mike became lazy and loss his focus after parting ways with Rooney.
ooooo ok
Rooney was that guy that would do the mitts with Tyson and stuff right? Since D'Amato was so old i'm sure he got someone else to do it for him (rooney)?

I think ever since D'Amato died Tysons career just went DOWN!

Since Cus died on November 4th, 1985, are you saying that Tyson was past his prime after only being a pro fighter for less than eight months?

rooney was tyson´s trainer, he keep training tyson after cus died. he trained tyson like when they was with cus. i dont think he is better than anybody else(its cus) rooney had been with tyson almost from the begining he know how to train tyson etc probably cus told him. after given, don king came in to his live all was mess up and he finally kicked rooney for some reason and its also the end of his career. i dont know why tyson want to be with a bunchs of amatuer to train and be with him in his corner , like vs douglas his corner didnt even had is, and you can almost tell that his corner didnt respect or care about him all the want was money and a untrain tyson didnt looks "good" just watch his face before rooney and after rooney. maybe because with rooney its all about hard training and be better and better he got tired of it so he want try the other side with king instead of hard training they had fun with girls etc and he did pay the price. its sad i though tyson could be another ali.

What made Tyson special was his style and his bond with Cus...

Roach, McGirt, or Fenech cannot bring that back..

It sorta reminds me of Rocky 5...
Tyson is Tommy Gunn, Rooney is Rocky...
Rooney trains him then comes that evil guy Don King who is george washington Duke..lol

Cus found Mike at the age of 12 and started him off. At that time Tyson was a kid always in trouble, Cus got him in line. He became Tysons legal guardian. In Tysons young career Cus had Teddy Atlas at the junior trainer for Tyson, Tyson tried to sexually assult his sister n law so Atlas pulled a gun on Tyson, that was when Cus told Atlas to hit the road and Kevin Rooney got the job. Cus died right before Tyson won the title, and Rooney kept Tyson on a very strict training routine and diet. After becoming rich and famous he decided he no longer needed Rooney and fired him, thats when his career went down hill. A few weeks later in Tokyo Japan he fell along with everyones jaw when James Douglas dropped him. If he has stuck with Kevin Rooney his name would be above Ali instead of below guys like Lewis and Holyfield

I think Bobby Stewart played the biggest part in turning Tyson early life around and directing him towards a better life as a pro fighter.

Stewart was a former fighter himself, and as a counselor at Tyron School (pretty much a jail where Tyson was sent when he was twelve or thirteen), he was one of the first people Tyson entrusted in, who wasn't a part of his own family. Stewart turned Tyson to boxing as a way of channelling his aggressive nature, and also sparred with Mike, as well as trained him in the sport.

And as a very good friend of D'Amato, Bobby Stewart was also the one who first introduced the young phenom to Cus.
