Who is going to do the play by play for Dominick Guinn/Friday Ahunanya? Does anyone care, and are they going to watch it? The fight is on ESPN at 9:00 central time. I am curious to see if Guinn looks the least bit prepared for this fight. What are your thoughts?

Ok. I will do it in that case. I just was wondering if someone else was dying to. LOL. Reason I say, is because some of our members may not have cable.

Guinn has been pretty lethargic lately, but Ahunanya is the same way. Even with Guinn's recent lackluster performences, he should still be able to outwork Ahunanya.

I live in Calgary, and its very nice out here lately.

We don't like summer up here. It cuts into our skating time.

....Never been to Canada but I know it's a beautiful country. A little too cold for my taste unless it's a summer visit possibly. One of the guys I just started working with is a Canadian citizen and I was at a party at his house last week and mentioned that I didn't necessarily want my son playing hockey because I wanted him to play a "real sport with real athletes". I almost started a riot. Good thing I love his pregnant wife or I would have checked that ****er into next week.

Them indeed is fighting words up in these parts.

We're fine with yous yanks not liking hockey, but trying to insinuate its not a physically demanding sport is crazy,
especially when its coming from someone who's national
passtime is Base(waitandscratch)ball.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/sportSkills

Hockey takes an insane amount of energy and conditioning to play. It doesn't get much more "real" than open ice hits with guys skating 20 miles an hour.

You can diss Canada all you want, but don't diss hockey.

...I aint about to use baseball to make my point. Baseball players for the most part are only a slight cut above golfers and race car drivers in pure athleticism.

Well I hope you were kidding about Hockey.

If not, I suggest you strap on 20lbs of equiptment and try getting hit by a huge man coming at you at 20 miles an hour when you don't see him coming.

Shifts in hockey are 30 - 90 seconds because how physically exhausting they are.

It's a brutal sprot to play.

...I never played it, and I saw the espn "expert opinions" but you just can't make me believe that hockey players are beter athletes than NFL cornerbacks, wide receivers, running backs or any super athlete NBA superstars. It's just not believable in any way shape or form. Better endurance possibly, but a better athlete??? No fuggin way.

I didn't say that.

I wouldn't be so bold as to draw that compairison.

I was talking about the ignorance level of this statement:

"I was at a party at his house last week and mentioned that I didn't necessarily want my son playing hockey because I wanted him to play a "real sport with real athletes"

Hockey players have a great deal of athletisism. It's a grueling sport to play, because of how fast it is, and on top of everything else, they're skating while playing the game.

Very uncharacteristic stoppage in the first fight of the night. Ref stepped in, and called it.....when it seemed as though Poncho Martinez was able to continue the fight.

I suppose the ref had seen enough though. I would have let it go on longer. There would always be a chance of a landing haymaker that could change that fight.

I also do not agree with Teddy Atlas' justification for the stoppage.

people will never understand what goes into every sport out there until the actually try it themselves...not just TRY it for 10min...but see what goes on behind it...

when people get one boxing and how it is just a bunch of guys going in there and throwing wild punches...we get defensive...well you PBDS are doing the same thing...you won't realize what goes into it until you actually do it...each sport requires different sets of skills, muscles, thinking...etc...

....I respect the game of hockey, and I realize that it's probably a difficult sport to play. The problem is that anytime you have a sport that has not "evolved" like other sports then I just can't take it too seriously. Hockey players are just now(in the last ten years or so) getting bigger and stronger in comparison to other athletes dominating other sports. I love Gretzky to death and rooted for those Oilers teams like no other hockey team I followed. I even pulled for him in LA and they became my team because of him. However, when you have a guy who weighs 155 pounds soaking wet and maybe 5'10 dominating a sport, then something is terribly wrong. It's like soccer players. They are not the premier big, strong, and fast athletes. Soccer is for guys who couldn't make the basketball team or the football team.

Gretzky was a rareity. He only excelled because of his out of this world natural talent.

You're really starting to talk non sense now. You should have just admitted that statement was out of line and left it.

Hockey requires a ton of athletisism and a ton of endurance.

Its fast, violent, and physically grueling.

Compairing it to soccer is asinine.
