View Full Version : So the UFC is going up against Wrestlemania 26...Not as easy as Dana thinks..
Nightelf 12-17-2009, 07:15 PM So Dana logically avoided the Pac Mayweather show down..and instead, is goin up against Vince Mcmahon and the WWE on March 27..Almost instantly people all over the internet thinks thats easy pickings for UFC...
i dont think so and here 5 reasons why:
1) The supposive main event at Wrestlemania seems to be for now is Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker.. EVERY year the WWE hypes the **** out of Undertakers Undefeated Winning streak at Wrestlemania which right now currently sitting at 17-0..Wrestlemania is the only payperview that hits a million buys that wwe produces..Last year taker beat michaels at wrestlemania.
The talk before the match was that Shawn Michaels was actually THE guy that was gonna finally end the long streak..even before the match even was announced people throughout YEARS always knew that michaels was the man to end it.. when they finally had the long anticipated match Michaels was so so close in ending the streak but taker at the end just got the win by a hair...
Just last week michaels AGAIN just challenged taker to a rematch and said "You know i can beat you"
Now the talk has again begun and wrestling fans [including myself] are convinced that michaels actually WILL end takers streak..fans are gonna eat this one up guys and people WILL tune in..
2) Its pretty much OFFICIAL now that none other than Bret "the hitman" Hart is gonna be on WWE T.V. within the next few weeks or around a month..I dont need to tell u who Bret Hart cause people who dont even watch wrestling knows who he is..Just last monday they even teased his arrival aswell on Raw!!! Theres already talks of him Vs McMahon in a match or even something to do with his REAL LIFE enemy Shawn Michaels.. and boy that WILL have more buyers for an event that ALREADY hits a Million buys every year...
3) The Rock..Yes folks...FINALLY!! It was just a couple months ago where The Rock actually appeared on Smackdown..and he actually teased an appearence to be a special guest host on Raw sometime in the future..
If he comes back in ANY form at Wrestlemania 26 then who knows how many more people will buy that event just for The Rock alone..
4) Stone Cold Steve Austin..Sure he's not wrestling however he DOES make an appearence every now and then the thought of him making an appearance is not even a rational one but one that is pretty sure to happen period..ESPECIALLY at this years wrestlemania..
5) John Cena..ugh..he's not the Champ right now and if he's not by before Wrestlemania u KNOW FOR A FACT that its pretty much guaranteed he'll win it that day..he's the reason why WWE makes the profit they do right now and his idiot kiddie fans will make there parents order this one for sure..
whew! there u have it..i dont think that Dana White and the UFC has it easy like how some think...The WWE is gonna seriously hype this event like no other..Hell they do every year but this year's Wrestlemania looks to be different than other ones and it will dent the UFC payperview buys more than people think..i guess were all just gonna have to wait and see..

I tend to get physically ill around people that know or care that much about wrestling personally i wont be buying either because i probably wont have any money left after buying mayweather pac...and i just wouldnt buy either anyways.
Versastyle 12-18-2009, 12:30 AM Wrestlemania is going to demolish UFC. Dana is one ****y mofo.
kswizzy99 12-18-2009, 02:04 AM UFC ppv's are ALWAYS on saturdays and Wrestling ppv's are ALWAYS on sundays. how are they going head-to-head?
and the fans of both sports are different plus UFC is shown in more bars than wrestling is. it's not entirely the same audience.

I don't know what Dana is thinking, you should ever underestimate the Drawing power of "The Champ" John Cena and how many little kids will make their parents buy the show.
Zhaakal 12-18-2009, 04:33 AM http://www.dailyhaha.com/_pics/wrestling_is_so_gay.jpg
MJ406 12-18-2009, 08:15 AM oh yeah that is true, I do remeber wrestling events being on Sundays
**never underestimate the popularity of pro wrestling .. I used to watch when I was 13, but as I got older my interest drastically
kind of amazed that it's still so popular
$ LegenD $ 12-18-2009, 09:38 AM i was wondering the same thing....WM are always on sundays....i always order WM even though i dont keep up with wrestling like i use to....ive actually attended 3 WM events live i use to be a die hard fan in my teens....anyways since its not on the same day i doubt if it will affect it although i do believe WM will get more ppv buys than ufc that weekend
MetalVomit 12-18-2009, 01:04 PM Agreed, I barely care to watch Wrestling, but Michaels vs. Undertaker again will get me to watch Wrestlemania before the UFC card.
Zhaakal 12-18-2009, 02:32 PM I used to be a HUGE fan, but grew out of it. It is boring as hell for me now and toooo childish. Though i'd definately check out WM and Royal Rumble.
allenloki 12-18-2009, 05:20 PM I think he means that they'll go head-to-head in the sense that most people will only spend the cash for one or the other.
Nightelf 12-18-2009, 06:18 PM ya one is before the other sorry...and i honestly think that the UFC should be considered lucky that there not goin head to head with this years Wrestlemania..Bret Hart has OFFICIALLY signed with WWE...PERIOD...its done and his contract WILL go though march and end at around april...
Here are the guarantees:
Brett hart WILL be at Wrestlemania..
Shawn Michaels WILL fight Undertaker..
IF hes not champion already John Cena WILL win the WWE Championship.
These are guarantees and just with this ALONE The UFC will lose some buys..
i dont think people are gonna shell out for BOTH payperviews..maybe some.
A fan who watches both WILL chose Particularly The Wrestlemania payperview because it is THE payperview for the world of WWE..and they usually do deliver on wrestlemania weekend..but this one seems kinda special so i say it'll benefit Vince Mcmahon moreso than Dana white...
GroundSt.Pound 12-18-2009, 06:27 PM It's impossible to determine which will do better because there is only one confirmed fight on the UFC card, and that's GSP/Hardy and GSP is one of the UFC's biggest draws

Not really.
repetition and quick grabs at nostalgia and now hot shot unproven talent is what has been hurting the WWE ever since last Wrestlemania. Even with Hart signing a three month deal with RAW, it's just going to be a blip in January. Once Hart's contract ends at WM26, it's not going to even register.
And honestly, Mir/Carwin and GSP/Hardy is definitely more compelling and competitive then seeing HBK/Taker 2.
Combat sports fans sick and tired of the WWE product will spend their money on 111 and Pac/Floyd.
Clegg 12-18-2009, 07:01 PM I'd be surprised if Hart even wrestled. Obviously they've signed him to a contract for a reason, but there's a limit to what a guy in his physical condition can do. I also read before that his insurance payout agreement would be at risk if he was to wrestle again. I don't know if that's true, but it's something to consider.
I have to wonder how many current WWE fans were watching back when Hart was the world champion? The guy isn't going to have as much drawing power as expected IMO. They'll probably have to do a load of promos just to let the newer fans know what the Montreal screw job actually was.
There's also a small number of people (myself being one of them) who find it really pathetic that Bret could go back to the WWE after everything that's happened. The guy has been on his high horse about the company for over a decade, but has now decided he doesn't mind all of the stuff that happened before. What a sham.
GroundSt.Pound 12-18-2009, 07:05 PM Brett hart WILL be at Wrestlemania..
Nobody give a **** about old ass Bret Hart. Fact
Shawn Michaels WILL fight Undertaker..
Didn't this happen at the last Wrestlemania?

yeah but those kids wouldn't have bought the UFC ppv anyway so how would that hurt the UFC's sales? the WWE and UFC have different audiences

there was a crossover, but it was from the fans who liked the pro wrestling aspect. With no other grappling event on TV, they adopted the UFC with haste.

it was 12 years ago, let it go..we have..the grudge was held for long enough..anways i think the one thing that wwe KNOWS that they have to do is "bring back" hart to todays audience...and i dont think thats gonna THAT much of an issue...
dude if Marty f*cken Jannety gets the reaction that he has for his last returns the last couple years i think bret will have less problem having people remember him..and jannety did get loud pops when he did return...remember him and michaels teaming up just a couple years ago? and even recently they brought him back aswell and that idiot got cheered..

For the past of your post, it's not a matter of me letting it go. The point isn't whether what happened in that past should be forgotten, the point is that Bret has spent years and years complaining about it. Hart has always tried to paint himself as someone with integrity, and has given dozens of interviews, written many articles and even a book that detailed his 'moral objections' to the practices of the WWE. Now he decides all of that stuff doesn't matter because they offer him a big enough payday? That's pathetic on his part.
As for Jannety, there's a big difference between getting a crowd reaction on an episode of RAW and having a big impact upon the number of people who buy a PPV. Hart will get people interested, but not on the scale that people are predicting. Maybe they can pull it off, but IMO a guy who has been missing from TV for a decade and who is too injured to wrestle a proper match just isn't going to have that big of an impact.
JoHnNyBoXeR 12-19-2009, 01:14 PM wierd how grown men can still like wwf wrestling
thatd be funny if Floyd did Wrestlemania and Floyd/Pac... lol

Yeah, as a 6-year-old that was rather devastating when my ***** cousin revealed to me the true nature of it.
MJ406 12-24-2009, 12:11 AM it took me till I'd say 14 or 15 when I found out the truth of pro wrestling. I compared it to finding out Santa Claus isn't real

LOL. That's a bit old to find out it's fake bro. Nah, but I used to watch it knowing it was fake and I didn't care. It was so entertaining. Though I haven't watched it since the whole Rock and Stone Cold Era in the late 90's/early 2000's..

yeah that was when wrestling was in it's "prime" so to speak .. the attitude era, Degeneration X, Nation of Domination etc
and come on, I mean growing up im sure there's a period where every kid believes everything they see on TV .. well maybe not "everything" such as cartoons
but it's fighting so to speak, and so many people go to the shows .. why would they to see something not real?
finding out it was scripted really did ruin it for me
but then again who would really use a steel chair or put someone through a table?

Lol. I found out it was fake a long time ago when I saw Captain Lou Albano on some Mario cartoon show and I was like WTF?? Then my dad told me. Yes the attitude era! That's when I used to love that ****. Damn I miss those days. Being an adult sucks....

I use to get stoned and watch it back then too, in my early teens at the time. I remember switching between ESPN boxing and Wrestling during commercials and **** (though I must confess that I spent a lot more time watching wrestling :chairshot). It was a good way to kill time before the softcore **** on showtime kicked in (damn, now that I think about it those were the days).

Wasn't Stone Cold kidknapped once by the Undertaker and his crew one time, thrown in the trunk of a car, and then brought back to their lab or some ****? I never quite saw how that one ended up.

Lol, I remember almost wishing it was real at that time, though I must admit that I had to check myself a bit once the wrestling **** started creeping in to the conversations with my buddies at school.
Nodogoshi 12-24-2009, 12:31 PM A final note on the subject: I actually got dragged into the pro-wrestling club at my university recently (I saw a couple of their performances on campus, was actually quite impressed by some of their performances (especially one small dude who can do ****ing everything), and became friends with a few of them). I have a background in collegian-style wrestling so I decided to give it a go.
It was fun learning to do and receive the throws, but I always found myself frustrated by the fact that the object is to cooperate in the maneuvers, rather than to try to defeat the guy. I find that the practices get my competitive juices going, and I want to take it to people rather than practice fake-sparring.
I recently met a judo guy, and I'm planning to start attending practices after the new year (they're on break now). For the record, I've done judo as well.
