I learned every song on that album on guitar. Verbal Abuse + Leeches is my favorite song, and Verbal Abuse rules. I dont listen to that badboy and more cuz I grew weary of it.

I am a guitar and bass player myself. A couple of guys and I recorded a video, well not a pro video, we just had a camcorder and fooled around. We played a medley that included parts of "One" by Metallica, "I Wanna Be Your God" by Iggy Pop, and "So What" by Anti Nowhere League. I was on bass guitar, there was a guy playing drums, and another friend screaming some ****ed up vocals. Sweet stuff!

Yeah but punk is usually split between the 70s era (plus a little spillover in the early early 80s) and the stuff that came after. That's the way I split up my list as well.
Bad Religion has been around since '80 but only put out one LP at that time, and they were on a long hiatus before Suffer came out. Probably you know all this though.
and i remember going to see nofx in hte mid 80s as well.
See above reply.
rancid simply is not punk to me at all.
Don't see why that would be, unless you're talking about their recent stuff. In the past couple of years they've gone to a major label, hung out with Kelly Osborne and Pink and Good Charlotte and wrote songs for Pink and GC as well, so yeah, they're a little less "punk" that they probably should be :) .
I've heard a lot of good things about Social Distortion, but haven't heard them all that much.
DR. FREECLOUD 04-26-2005, 06:59 AM I've heard a lot of good things about Social Distortion, but haven't heard them all that much.
i have all of thier stuff if you want some let me know.

I might definitely take you up on that offer. I heard good things about their Heaven and Hell album as well. Thanks  .

I'm still not that big a fan of the second record on that album (or the second half of the CD). People tell me its brilliant and I guess I can sort of see why but I still don't listen to it all that often.
You folks should check out the lillingtons. I have friends who called it "***** ****" in the beginning...but ended up liking them alot. In fact, I dont have a friend who does not like them now. Poppy Ramones style punk with violent lyrics.
DR. FREECLOUD 04-26-2005, 01:02 PM angry samoans is another favorite.
Barrio505 05-13-2005, 01:09 PM Subhumans

LuKahnLi 05-13-2005, 01:32 PM Rancid: And Out Come The Wolves
Dropkick Murphys: Do or Die.
The Clash: The Clash.
The clash self titled is my favorite. That one sounds the most raw and it features 'I fought the Law' and 'White Man at the Hammersmith Palais'.
Bombardier 05-13-2005, 02:18 PM The Clash: The Clash.

Yes, I agree with you that this is the best of their albums, despite what most people say about London Calling. Don't forget Remote Control and Complete Control. And Career Opportunities.
Give 'em Enough Rope is vastly underrated, as well.
Hardcore music:
crown of thorns
warzone
blood for blood
terror

I like blood for blood, they are ok. harcore I like...and includes grindcore and black metal.
The Red Chord

Bombardier 05-13-2005, 03:22 PM These are some of my facourite BR lyrics. One of my old sig quotes came out of this one:
Did you ever see the concrete stares of everyday?
The lunatic, the hypocrite, are all lost in the fray.
Can't you see their lives are just like yours?
An unturned stone, an undiscovered
Door leading to the gift of hope renewed, eternity for you.
The masses of humanity have always had to suffer.
The businessman whose master plan controls the world each day
Is blind to indications of his species' slow decay.
Can't you see his life is just like yours?
An unturned stone, an undiscovered
Door leading to the gift of hope renewed, eternity for you.
The masses of humanity have always had to suffer.
People blow their minds (they choose to resign)
This deformed society is part of the design.
It'll never go away (it's in the cards that way).
The masses of humanity have always, always had to suffer!
A door leading to the gift of hope renewed, eternity for you.
The masses of humanity, still clinging to their dignity,
The masses of humanity will always have to suffer.
Always have to suffer.

This is a good tune too, of course. I listen to this nearly once a day while I'm at work.
Bombardier 05-13-2005, 03:25 PM This is where my current sig quote comes out of:
Culture was the seed of proliferation but it's gotten melded
Into an inharmonic whole, to an inharmonic whole.
Consciousness has plagued us and we cannot shake it
Though we think we're in control, though we think we're in control.
Questions that besiege us in life are testament of our helplessness.
There's no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end.
When we all disintegrate it will all happen again, yeah.
Time is so rock solid in the minds of the hordes but they can't
Explain why it should slip away, explain why it should slip away.
History and future are the comforts of our curiosity but here we are
Rooted in the present day, rooted in the present day
Questions that besiege us in life are testament of our helplessness.
There's no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end.
When we all disintegrate it will all happen again, yeah.
If you came to conquer, you'll be king for a day,
But you too will deteriorate and quickly fade away.
And believe these words you hear when you think your path is clear...
We have no control. We have no control.
We have no control, we do not understand.
You have no control, you are not in command.
You have no control. We have no control.
No control. No control. You have no control.

Thanks for the downloads, I'll get them when I'm back home. I'll see if I can get some of my mp4s up here sometime soon.
Anyone listen to The Jam? Not really punk, but has the same violent working-class British roots.
Sinai Beach is real hardcore punk. ****ing thug.
The Troll 05-20-2005, 02:11 PM Sublime was like my favorite band. But they are not really punk.
Bombardier 05-20-2005, 02:12 PM the jam LYRICS
'A' BOMB IN WARDOUR STREET
Where the streets are paved with blood,
with cataclysmic overtones,
Fear and hate linger in the air,
A strictly no-go deadly zone.
I don't know what I'm doing here
'cause it's not my scene at all
There's an 'A' bomb in Wardour Street
They've called in the Army, they've called in the police to.
I'm stranded on the vortex floor,
My head's been kicked in and blood's started to pour
Through the haze I can see my girl
15 geezers got her pinned to the door
I try to reach her but fall back to the floor
'A' bomb in Wardour Street
It's blown up the West End, now it's spreading throughout the City,
'A' bomb in Wardour Street, it's blown up the City
Now it's spreading through the country.
Law and order take a turn for the worst,
In the shape of a size 10 boot.
Rape and murder throughout the land,
and they tell you that you're still a free man.
If this is freedom I don't understand
'cause it seems like madness to me.
'A' bomb in Wardour Street, Hate Bomb,
Hate Bomb, Hate Bomb, Hate Bomb.
A Phillistine nation, of degredation,
And hate and war. There must be more
It's Doctor Martin's A,P,O,C,A,L,Y,P,S,E,
Apocalypse!
Candice. About a girl. More hardcore.
You people should listen to the song Candice I posted. It might be the best song ever created as far as hardcore punk is concerned. Im dead ****ing serious.

The Troll 05-20-2005, 02:25 PM Yeah its kind of an addicting song too.
More of Myself to Kill. Song is ruthless. All of these songs I am posting are hardcore punk. Almost death metal. Turn the speakers up on this one cuz it owns.
I like Melodic hardcore. Its my favorite type of music. Like the song right above this post. Between the Buried and me is a complete band. They can ****ing do it all, and I fell in love with them.
haha. A change of pace, seriously. Just regular old punk rock.

That's some crazy ****, not my thing, but the mellow stuff was cool. Can see why you like them though, multi-part songs are good if the band knows what it's doing. Ever here The Decline by NOFX?
Great way to kill the last few hors of work on a Friday afternoon. And this is a long weekend up here, no less.

Punk rock is mostly political.....but I like it. I like Pennywise songs that arent political....as well as Lagwagon songs.
I like Noble end by Lagwagon. It rules.

I like political lyrics if they relate to anarchy or armageddon. Most Bad Religion songs slant that way, or at least they used to. Making a whole album based on "Bush is bad" is kind of lame...what ever happened to "all politicians are bad and should be killed"? That's a statement that makes you at least pay attention.

god i love them dude i anticipating their new album, but i hope that jim changes his voice back to his old style on unknown road and self titled and they turn the guitar down and turrn the guitar more punk than metal i think those were the main bad partscuz fletcher is still playin punk music but he has it so that the guitar setting is metal.

Im adding lots of songs to this thread. Ill keep doing so. If you think I should add one that you have not heard in a while, or are not inclined to download off Peer to Peer, simply post a song title and band name, if I find it: Ill add it.
Im going to add some more misfits, nofx, lagwagon, Me first +, strung out, propaghandi, and other phat wreckchords labels. I went on a streak adding hardcore and death metal, but I think I hijacked the thread in doing so.
I think old school punk additions may be necessary as well. Including Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, etc.
LuKahnLi 05-31-2005, 07:32 PM I unearthed Rancid - 'Life Won't Wait' and was quickly reminded how wonderful an album it was.
A more recent Album I though was great was Lars Fredrickson and The Bastards first album. Absolutely brilliant.

drez24 06-01-2005, 08:53 PM I know I'm a little late here but f it...
NOFX - pump up the valium, punk in drublic (if anyone needs the new 7" of the month club songs, let me know)
Millencolin - life on a plate
Digger - Powerbait
Impossibles - anthology
Alkaline trio
a ton of others... not too much into the older stuff from the 70s, although every now and then i can go for a little new york dolls or sex pistols.
Bombardier 06-02-2005, 12:09 PM Pump up the Valuum is a great effort so late in their careers, NOFX really surprised with that one. Take Two Placebos and Call Me Lame is their best opener since Linoleum (I know it's the second track on the disc but the first is just an intro so it still counts).
Look for some of my music up on this thread soon. I'm going to burn the **** on my home computer onto a CD and bring it here so I can convert it to mp3s and upload things quick.
Unfortunately I can't get started on this project until next week because I'm going to suddenly fall "ill" tomorrow and have to phone in sick and get myself a long weekend. In fact I can already feel the sickness coming on now...*cough*, *cough*.
phallus 06-03-2005, 08:29 PM i'm surprised, and disappointed no one mentioned the greatest punk band of them all Black Flag, they had so many good songs about being a ****ed up kid working at burger world and youth with no future. i also really liked X, but that's old school punx. i never was into the english punks because it always seemed more of a fashion thing than music, but lately i've been enjoying some old songs by the Stranglers a buddy burned for me. Also Steve Albini's old punk band Rapeman is one of the greatest ****ing punk bands ever, how can you resist songs like "Monobrow", " Upbeat", and the classic " Kim Gordon's panties ".

I have to argue with that Beeatch. I dont think they are the best band of all time, considering I have never been a big fan of Henry Rollins. I suppose you could make the case for them being pioneers of this style of music, then again: Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Misfits all had their say in that.
N.O.F.X. is the greatest punk band of all time hands down. They are the most talented, and most creative. For instance
Erik Ghint is the best punk rock drummer ever. The guy is really fast and syncs beats well.
Jefe is the most talented punk rock guitarist ever, because he is versatile in playing other instuments as well.
Erik Melvin kind of sits there, but is really good nonetheless
Case can be made for Fat Mike as being the best and most versatile punk bassist ever, considering he sings while he plays. This would not apply to metal, because if you look at Tom Araya from Slayer: He sucks at playing bass. Ive seen the two in concert a couple of times, and Fat Mike is a way better bassist.
Plus N.O.F.X.'s music is versatile as a whole.

I'm trying to think of a band that tops NOFX, but really I can't think of one that's so universally loved. I like Bad Religion but you're right that it's tough to top NOFX musically.
Seeing that basically everyone in punk likes them counts for something as well. Somehow their lyrics manage to be complex, hilarious and meaningful at the same time. Frat boy-types think they're just a joke band but you dig a little deeper and they're actually making points as they joke around as well.

yeah. I was wondering. And on the topic. Blink is cool, considering 9/10 of their songs are about females, and they are a 3 man band. That is quite impressive; being that most bands have 4 or 5 members. They are fast: Almost the fastest punk rock band around if you ask me. That makes them even cooler. It never really bothered me they were trendy, and you cant blame them for selling out. Everyone likes them.

**** it's annoying, they upgraded me to XP and nothing works anymore, which means I have to spend a lot of time talking to other people around here, which in never enjoyable. Plus the 1 hour upgrade took 4 hours so half my day I had nothing to do. Sucks.
Blink is good, though them selling out to the teen-MTV crowd bugged the hell out of me at the time. I used to be able to wear a Blink shirt and nobody knew who the hell they were. That "first date" song really pissed me off. But like you said it's hard to blame them and they still are good, and they're better now then they were a couple of years ago.
Gotta get out of here now.
I know I'm pathetic I knew when she said it
A loser a bum's what she called me when I drove her home
There's no more waiting and sure no more wasting
I've done all I can
But she still wants to be left alone
You got, you got, you got to help me out
And I'll try not to argue
No one, no one, no one likes a drop-out
Mistakes are hard to undo
Don't pull me down this is where I belong
I think I'm different
But I'm the same and I'm wrong
Don't pull me down this is where I belong
I think I'm different
This is where I belong
I think it's disgusting believing and trusting
If I gave a ****
There would be nothing for me to prove
Although it's amusing, it's slightly confusing
I've done all I can
But her ego is still hard to move
You got, you got, you got to help me out
And I'll try not to argue
No one, no one, no one likes a drop-out
Mistakes are hard to undo
Don't pull me down this is where I belong

chito 06-08-2005, 06:32 AM i like the alarm, the cure, inxs, depeche mode, echo&thebunnymen, blur, the ramones. these bands were no longer active and some had disbanded a long time ago. are these punk rock bands? i listen to everything (even classical) that's why im a little confused as to what really is the type of music they represent. punk rock & new wave are a lot a like don't you think?
Bombardier 06-08-2005, 11:01 AM Okay, I'm in business.
Here is my all-time favourite Rancid song: Olympia, WA from ...And Out Come the Wolves. I've heard this album a million times but I never get tired of this one.

Yes I think it's up in there in their top 5 (though I haven't heard some of the older ones as much as I should have). Might be a few too many joke songs to make it any higher than that, but musically it's definitely one of their best.
Of course this is probably the best funny song on the record:
EDIT: The filename keeps screwing up. My apologies.

I just got this CD recently. I actually missed the boat with this band a while back and until rencently never thought I'd like them. But the album rules...they do what they do very well, if that makes any sense. I might not like the style otherwise, but they make it work.

Perhaps. Most of them I have known like to use alot of drugs. The last thing I am going to do, is marry a girl that does. If I find a straight edge one perhaps.

lol yeah I don't want to give you bad advice. A lot of chicks like punk who don't go for the whole punk lifestyle, meaning the drugs and troublemaking and ****. I guess most are straight-edgers or at least close enough (I mean, they drink coffee and eat at KFC).

I love Social Distortion's 1st Self Titled album. Track 6 "Ball and Chain" almost makes me cry.
Mike Ness is a kid from the mid 50s that hopped on a time Machine and ended up in the mid 90s and decided to be a punk.
LuKahnLi 06-09-2005, 04:37 PM Anyone dig Tiger Army?

the first time i saw the descendants...they were the fastest band id ever seen!
no one in the crowd really cared for them...we were waitin for the alley cats to play..
after a couple months, i heard kabuki girl,on rodney on the rock late sunday night!
that was enough, for me i hopped a bus, to licorice pizza, and bought, my all-time favorite record...!
the next time i went, to the whiskey......it was doa with millions of dead cops!
the latter band played faster than i could believe,.. but the song sounded the same, and kinda sucked!
JOHN WAYNE WAS A NAZI...AND JOEY ****HEAD WAS A DRUNK!
and john must see as he beats some hippie to a pulp, cuz havin long hair was a mistake...
(legendary sax/drum roll)
the third time i went , to the hospital, i needed thirteen stitches in my head, i managed, to catch about six songs of ill repute, and some suicial threw me into a post..!
my girlfriend started to cry, cuz we had to leave, before DRI played fifty lousy songs! my blood stained shirt smelled of clove cigarettes, but it sure looked pretty cool after a wash
ps- another great punk song is millencolin-buillion

jabsRstiff 09-21-2005, 10:59 AM I liked "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegtables" by the Dead Kennedys.
Yeah, it was over-the-top, & may verge on "mainstream" punk (oxymoron, I know)....but East Bay Ray's guitar work on it is f*ckin' fantastic.
"Holiday In Cambodia"...."California Uber Alles"...."Drug Me"...**** was darker than a lot of punk.
Kid Achilles 09-21-2005, 11:25 AM Nevermind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols is #1 for sure for me. The Pistols were great, great entertainment and Rotten may be one of the most intense and charismatic frontment in music history.
Ramones (self titled) is one of my favorite albums of all time.
The Clash self titled AND London Calling are both great.
I like a lot of proto punk stuff too...
Raw Power by Iggy and the Stooges.
New York Dolls self titled
Just a lot of great music from that era ('76-'80) and the era leading into it.
McKay.
What's the deal with adding a Korn video to my thread?

"Burning Inside".... is on "Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste", & on "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up"
"Land Of Rape & Honey" is a landmark album......"Mind" is kind of a second version of that....while "Psalm 69" gets much more into he metal world, though I still think it's great.
My fave from them is "Breathe". I especially love the live version which was on their video of their tour from '90.
The opening "drum-off", with Willaim Rieflin & Martin Atkins (Killing Joke) gets me fired up to this day.

If I was allowed to preserve only one punk album in a time capsule to sum up for future generations the entire genre, the passion, angst, and energy of punk, it might be Young Loud & Snotty. Even more specifically the first track, Sonic Reducer. Awesome ****ing song. One of my personal favorites.

Here's the video in case you haven't, and notice the (lack of) lip synching, and use of the mic at all for that matter.
