Sir Tom Jones 12-14-2009, 07:49 PM "**** you, I won't do what you tell me"
The X-Factor winner and RATM both belong to the Sony~BMG Label
Sane Man 12-15-2009, 06:58 AM Yeah. That's why I won't buy it.
Would like to see it beat X Factor though.
Davros? 12-16-2009, 07:01 AM X Factor winners all seem the same to me then again i don’t watched the show much, the studio reminds me of the generation game. I would rather they axe that crap and put on some boxing :boxing:

A Miley Cyrus cover, sung by a dull competition winner vs RATM.
I hate the X Factor.
I bought it because its a great song and would make the best xmas no.1 ever.
Earl-Lesnar 12-18-2009, 06:18 PM OMFG, RATM is up against some bum, singing a hannah montana cover of a song thats not even a year old!
The music Industry in the uk is a ****ing joke, RATM won't do it, i bet ya.
Clegg 12-18-2009, 06:52 PM Hopefully X Factor wins. **** that knows it's **** beats a group of self-proclaimed 'rebels' who are signed to the same label.
I read an interview this week where they called themselves 'the rebel choice'. The charts are a joke, all this is doing is acting as if they mean something. It's not rebellion, it's conformity because it's accepting the legitimacy of the UK charts as if they actually mean something.
I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was thought up by a Sony executive. "I know, we'll promote two of our acts as rivals, make a competition between them, and that will increase the sales of both of them!"
Not trying to be a cunt about it or anything, but that's just the way I see it. Or possibly I am a cunt, I'm not sure.
Earl-Lesnar 12-18-2009, 10:03 PM Celgg, I think you are wrong old buddy old pal.
It's easy for people to think they are clever, and over-analise things like this.
I'll point-counterpoint it for you.
Point: RATM are on the same label as X Factor, and even though they are aprrox 1,000,000 times more talented than X factor, X factor should win because it just should, and everyone should just roll over and accept it.
Counterpoint: Nah
black.ink 12-19-2009, 03:10 AM As of yesterday, Rage are about 5,000 copies ahead, but are on download only, while that X-Factor kid is in stores as well as download. I hope these blizzards continue, keeping the kids indoors - stopping them buy that toff.
I read in the Sun, that Morello has stated that all profits will go to the 'shelter' charity. Can't be too bad, although them Sony executives are laughing all the way to the bank.

yeah, they wont do it i dont reckon, needs a massive push
Rastamouse 12-19-2009, 01:43 PM Its not about money.
Sony are always going to make a f*ck load of cash.
As its been said before....
**** YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME
Earl-Lesnar 12-19-2009, 06:19 PM they are 10,000 behind the miley cyrus cover now, they can't win on internet sales alone it seems.

That's funny because here's a post from the facebook group
"Last night RATM were outsiders on betfair for christmas number 1. This morning however, they are incredible odds on at about 1.1. There's no value in even betting on it. So chances are someone with inside information is going to make a bit of cash out of this :)
Just to point out how accurate I feel this is, last Sunday, Ryan Gigg's odds miraculously dropped to win Sports personality a good few hours before the winner was announced. The same I believe for Mark Hughes' sacking.
http://sports.betfair.com/?mi=100892529&ex=1
I'm feeling confident!"
I say vote for Cliff Richard.
Mozza 12-20-2009, 11:27 AM Rage Against The Machine are ****. This whole situation has been an embarrassment.
Earl-Lesnar 12-20-2009, 01:24 PM According to Wikipedia RATM is this years number 1

TmZaclk 12-20-2009, 04:49 PM Just heard on the Radio in Scotland that Rage stopped that English Yorkshire sheep-shagger from getting to #1. Cowell must be peed.
The Noose 12-20-2009, 05:02 PM Thank you jesus.
Cowel wont really give a **** as gets money anyway from Sony. But its good that a song with substance and a band with talent trumped a ****ing puppet tv show single at the one time of year when people take notice of the charts.
The RealDeal 12-20-2009, 05:32 PM Thank you jesus.

Agreed !!
**** Cowell ! Its the Principle !!! I loved this RATM song for many years and couldn't be happier to see it knock **** Factor off the spot, I'm sick of that ****e being Number 1 at Christmas instead of a Christmas song.
Well done to RATM for giving the proceeds to Charity !
I'm glad I downloaded it even thought I already had it.
Merry Christmas everyone !!
Earl-Lesnar 12-20-2009, 05:54 PM I just love it, Cowell may make some money out of it, but he also lost a lot, because John Mcelderberry had to slash the cost of his single to 29p

Okay then. I'm about 95% sure the guff Joe was singing requires a greater deal of thought to construct than the pish above and am 100% sure that only those with a mental age of 10-14 could find either song appealing.

lol. U just dont get it do u.
:fest30:
Can u not see the difference between a talent show winner singing karaoke and a band who write, arrange and perform their own music about real life political issues?
Dont be silly. :spank:

Everything is in the eye of the beholder, man. Or in this case the ears of the beholder. I don't actually think the song is that bad, although it's not the sort of thing I'd normally listen to. The whole point is to make a stand against this karaoke contest getting number one each year with no originality whatsover. I don't think it was to say ''oh here's the best song ever written'' or anything like that. It was just a bit of a wake up call to what is going on in the charts these days. I suppose some people just want to see 'real' music in the charts as well.
I personally like all sorts of music, whether it be very raw stuff, or bubble gum pop, as they say. People will probably laugh, but I actually thought Robbie Williams' single would have made a decent enough number one - for a pop song anyway.

True. The x factor is a fun tv show, but it has nothing to do with music. Its a shame young people are being led to believe that to be a pop star u have to fit into the mold that some game show judges think would sell the largest number of units to the public for a while, before be replaced by next years winner.

I very much get it. Both songs are contrived rubbish. I'm well aware that Rage Against The Machine wrote their own songs and that's my very point - the songs are ****. It just amuses me that there are so many organised rebels out there. Get it?
squealpiggy 12-23-2009, 12:00 PM What I don't like about shows like the X factor is the incredibly cynical way in which the show is marketed extremely heavily with the express purpose of getting the christmas number one. It is sheer manipulation that frankly bothers me. The RATM song may benefit the same execs (I always thought the politics of RATM was ridiculous anyway.. they release a record called "Evil Empire" about the very captialist system that made them millionaires) but the whole point of this campaign is to expose the concept of the christmas number one as a sham. The winner is decided by a directed campaign whether this is a viral one by internet or an overt one using prime time television and whitewash marketing.

What's original about following an internet campaign? More to the point, what's the difference between the thousands who bought into the X Factor campaign and those who bought into the Facebook campaign?
The Noose 12-23-2009, 03:04 PM I very much get it. Both songs are contrived rubbish. I'm well aware that Rage Against The Machine wrote their own songs and that's my very point - the songs are ****. It just amuses me that there are so many organised rebels out there. Get it?
Ur just citing ur preference. U dont like either song. But my point is one band create their own music which has inspired many people to do the same. They have passion and energy and meaning in their music. They other is pure kareoke, chosen by Simon Cowell. No matter what song he chose, no matter who won or how **** they were, they would of still reached number one.
Thats not what music should be about.
It could of been RATM, or anty Beatles song or Led Zep or whoever. As long as it was real music made by musicians.

The facebook campaign was more a statement against the x factor automatically gaining a number one because of high ratings on the tv show every year.
paul750 12-23-2009, 03:59 PM What's original about following an internet campaign? More to the point, what's the difference between the thousands who bought into the X Factor campaign and those who bought into the Facebook campaign?
It's original so long as it's just a one off, which I think it is [I'm not too sure]. The X Factor has been going for years now, with a new puppet rolling off the production line every year. There are very few of these talent contest winners who are still successful. The only one off the top of my head is that Will Young bloke. RATM and other bands like them might not be everybody's cup of tea, but they've been around for years, so they must be doing something right. Cowell and the others are not out there trying to discover raw talent, they're just out to make the dough and that's it.
I'd actually prefer one extreme or the other for Christmas Number 1: either something silly like Bob the Builder for the kids, or something quality and serious like Mad World. What is truly crap is this bland rubbish year after year.
Apart from that Gary Jules cover, the Christmas number ones are not usually that thought provoking or deep anyway - it's usually rubbish.
I mean, are people ever going to buy a Jungleland by Bruce Springsteen type of song, or a Streets of London by Ralph McTell type song at this time of year? Most of the time, people buy ****.
But anyway, I still think it was a slight kick in the arse for Simon Cowell this year. I doubt it will make him think about what he is doing though.

They may well create their own music but that's not always a virtue. I'm sure it does inspire some but so does the X Factor. I'm sure it has meaning to some people but so does the X Factor. There are some terrible singers in the X Factor but there are also some very good singers. That they don't write their own songs is hardly a great reason for criticising them.
It could of been RATM, or anty Beatles song or Led Zep or whoever. As long as it was real music made by musicians.
Let's not mention Rage Against The Machine and The Beatles in the same sentance again, eh?
The facebook campaign was more a statement against the x factor automatically gaining a number one because of high ratings on the tv show every year.
It wasn't any kind of statement. A real statement against the X Factor would be if half a million people spontaneously bought a song they liked without being told to. Leaching on to an internet campaign is the same kind of cultivation supposedly being protested against.

Girls Aloud and Leona Lewis have both been very successful as well but that's just the music business. Some acts will burst on to the scene out of nowhere then disappear as quickly. The X Factor, like everything else, has a shelf life and won't have a monopoly over the charts for ever but I can't honestly say Mr. Blobby is a better bet.
The Noose 12-24-2009, 03:20 AM They may well create their own music but that's not always a virtue. I'm sure it does inspire some but so does the X Factor. Their method of securing a number 1 over xmas was used against them, and it annoyed them.
It also caused debate. Most people just accept the fact this type of music dominates the charts.
I think it was a healthy debate.
I wouldnt criticise a singer solely for not writing their own music, but this x factor thing encapsulates all that is ugly about 'bad' music. Its totally a manufactured product.
