I joined a boxing gym just over 12 months ago nearly 4 stone (54 pound) over weight. Totally unfit and having never boxing in my life.

Lost the weight and ran a marathon 2 weeks ago in 4hrs 29mins.

Here is my fight. 4 two minute rounds.

I am in blue head gear.

Feel free too slaughter me in style :boxing:

Other fella edged it on points.

Opponent was having his 4th fight.

At the time of fight i weighed 78kg (172lb) He was 80kg (176lb)

So glad the pre-fight nerves or now so very long gone.

Amazing experience & great memory's banked for life.

Would recommend everyone should do at least one fight in there lifetime.

Good stuff man. At the end of the day when you are sitting on some porch somewhere telling stories of back when and things you have done, there'll be a gleam in your eye as this comes up. You're living life bro, cheers. :)

Maybe because the guy is 41.. was overweight, and only just started boxing 12 months ago? deserves a little praise if you ask me.

This guy doesnt need any support/praise or encouragement

stop embarassing the sport any longer

btw, who here has actually fought in the ring before and not just gone into a boxing club for 1 day and have come out thinking their boxers

When I say in the ring, not no white collar rubbish, official amateur or pro stuff with at least 10fights above in the amateurs

you really don't have a clue, do you?

Some of us actually do compete at a very high level.

I for one am far more impressed by a guy at the age of 41, shaking off the dust and working hard at a goal, in this case losing weight and making his way to a fight, then someone spouting off on a message board about what they are or think they are.

You see, the difference between a person like the OP and someone like you, is that while maybe you both have something to prove, in his case it is to himself, and he has done that. Pretty nobel, rewarding thing. In your case you're looking to prove or have proof from others. Not near as valuable a thing. A bit shallow.

So ya. in short. he rocks. you suck.

Yeah thanks!!!

I love it. I get a hater on my first ever fight thread (it must mean i have arrived)

:headbang:

My trainer the big guy reffing who gave the fight the other dude was Lou Gents trainer in the mid 90,s cracking UK Nigel Benn fight. He (my trainer)has about 250+ fights under his own belt and did say that i should have won it with a bit more effort.

Was a great day and that fight made earlier in the year helped keep me motivated to get fitter & fitter over the past few months.

White collar boxing is a blast where everybody who wants it can have a chance to taste what its like to step in the ring.

The whole point of being at a boxing gym huh?

Next local event is in April 10.

Maybe then ill get to smoke the cigar.

Thought i had it in the bag. (crowd did too)

Next time :boxing:

How about none? Thats my guess, but i bet he'll say he went 200-0 in the am's and is about to turn pro. :lol1:

On topic, good job man. Picking up boxing at 41 years old and then losing 54 pounds to finally get your first fight is an achievement in itself. You should be proud. It's never too late to get in shape.

For being a "white collar event" I didnt see a good ring, and no stools for the fighters to sit on.....one side of the ring was even close to windows...would of been great to see it get cracked. Anyways, how old was your opponent? Great to know you have lost the extra weight..congrats.

Good job Lanzarote,

I watched all 4 rounds, I personally had you winnin' the fight.

Round 1 and 2 I thought you landed the cleaner punches, better ring generalship.

Round 3 was really close, but I gave it to Red because he pressed the action more and neither of you were really landing much.

Round 4 Good effort on both sides, you guys opened it up more, this round was probably the most action-packed. Again, you were $$$ with your straight right hands, but, it was another close round. I thought you landed the cleaner punches. So I gave the round to you.

Overall, you guys were more or less evenly matched.

Now, are you ready for some criticism, hehe.

#1 Keep your chin tucked, you had it high in the air and everytime he jabbed you would tilt your head back and it gives the impression that the jab landed or landed harder than it did.

** Next time, just step back, not lean back!

#2 Each punch that you throw does not necessarily have to land. There's 3 main reasons for the jab

a) The jab is used as a range finder

b) Set-up other punches

c) Block the opponents vision

I noticed that you were trying to go over his jab with your jab(not good). Don't be predictable. You did a good job in round 1 between 3:20-3:24 of the vid, where you feinted him and changed levels. You need to do that more often.

Another thing that you did that I liked, was in round 2 between .12-.14 of vid, where you jabbed low then went up high with a straight right or was it an overhand right. That's what we mean by setting up your punches.

Jabbing does not have to be at the same spot everytime, mix it up, have fun with the combinations. But of course, none of it will work if you don't have the proper range!

Keep up the good work.

Congrats on your first fight. I am guessing it was not an official amateur match as you cannot box amateur at your (or my) age. Or do you have a special comp allowing over 32s to box?
And damn that ring is tiny.

Thanks everyone for the replies (tips/praise/constructive criticism)

Cheers!!!

Just lets me squeeze a few more drops of buzz juice outa the whole thing that little bit longer.

:)

We was wearing 10oz gloves and yes that ring is small.Couldnt swing a cat small. No room to scarper if the pressure gets to much. Its a small gym with limited space.

Thanks again for taking time to have a look.
