Ruiz is going to get knocked out Sturm. That hugging tactic will not cut it against Toney's accurate punching. For one, he is not going to hold up against the uppercutts and hooks to the body that Toney will deal out, two, he doesnt have the lateral movement to avoid Toney. And one could even argue, three....that he has far inferior ring intelligence. This fight is a clear mismatch IMO.

I reckon Ruiz's power is underestimated... Rahman was notably backing off in their bout.

Because he got his ass beat twice by Montell Griffin. He should be one of the "better", but not "greatest". There is no room on that list for him.

If "our generation" includes the early 90's, when Toney was actually doing things right, then I agree with you. But, in those days, Toney was nowhere near the Heavy scene. Since arriving at the Heavy scene, he's beat up an old Holyfield and Danny Green. He had great skills at lighter weight and will bring some of them with him, but don't forget the guy is unaturally puffy and won't put on a show like he did against Holy.

I see it this way, if Toney beats Ruiz, I want it to be a vicious knockout so we don't have to see Ruiz anytime soon. And, if Ruiz beats Toney, I want it to be a vicious knockout so we don't have to see Toney anytime soon.

......Holy **** I totally agree with that last paragraph of Munn's. If all goes well we won't have to see at least one of these guys after their fight. With our luck it will be an ugly and controversial fight that leads to one or two more of the same.

I already said I wanted to bet the day before the fight, which would be after the weigh in.

I want to be able to bet the points I'll rack up in between now and then.

Are you saying you'll bet me?

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you.
Anyone with a good, educated eye for boxing ( like us :D ) should be able to see that in this fight, Ruiz's penchant for grabbing & holding & leaning on his opponents ISN'T going to work like he's used to.
Toney's lack of height is actually going to be an asset in this fight as his lower center of gravity will allow him to nullify a lot of Ruiz's **** tactics. Toney will bend at the knees & step out to the left or the right while staying on Ruiz's chest, eliminating "The Quiet Man's" offense while being in perfect range to dig in his own uppercuts & hooks to the body. The biggest worry for Toney will be all the *****ing & complaining that Ruiz will do while trying to convince the ref that Toney's legit body blows are ,infact, low blows.

Great post brother, I agree with all of your hypothetical's concerning their style, I PRAY that Toney can avoid Johnny Louise's homo-erotic tendencies by staying low and counter-punching....

do you ever get the feeling that Johnny Louise trains for his fights in a 20 x 20 mattress with Croney Stone, and that they cuddle and pillowfight afterwards? It's getting disturbing....
