#1. Bowe/Holyfield - great, great fights with the Heavyweight title on the line for two of them. Both fighters gave it all over every round.

#2. Frazier/Ali - a great deal on the line, captured the attention of even non-boxing fans, fight III was one of the greatest fights of all time

#3. Griffith/Paret - two very talented fighters who hated each other. The tragic ending can not take away from the great fights these were.

#4. Gatti/Ward - first fight one of boxing's greatest, other two just a good night of boxing. No titles at stake, no animosity between the two fighters makes this rank below other trilogies.

1. ALI VS FRAZIER......... its obviouse it transcended boxing and action packed.
2.Morales vs barrera........p4p i think its the best but i'm mexican so yeah there is some bias oh yeah they were brawlers and boxers at the same time.
3. Bowe vs holyfield...... great drama and great action

Ali-Frazier
Barrera-Morales
Bowe-Holyfield

These three were skillfully fought brawls between great fighters at the time they fought. Gatti/Ward was exciting but neither are great fighters in my opinion just exciting ones.

I'm 17 and I have. Thats no excuse. You gotta watch ESPN Classic on Monday nights. My favorite trilogies?

1. Bowe-Holyfield: Three of the most thrilling, action packed fights in heavyweight history, all wars.
2. Barrera-Morales: The 1st and 3rd fights were some of the most thrilling fights in history, only tainted by the lack of knockdowns. Sometimes toughness is not an asset.
3. Graziano-Zale: Just horrific ****. As beautiful as it was violent.

Honorable mention:
Terry Norris- Luis Santana
The winner getting carried out on a stretcher. Priceless.

My pick would be Ali-Frasier. Bowe-Holyfield comes close but the second fight just lacked the excitement of the first and third match.

That is serious bragging points! MAB vs EM is one of the top, Gatti vs Ward ranks there as well. Lenard vs Duran if you leave out the third fight. I always thought DLH and Tito would be the next great trilogy, still can. There first fight wasn't as great as many of the other fights mentioned. I can not siply say one was better than the other. Most of them were simply "Awesome"

1-ward/gatti
2-mab/morales
3-ali/frazier

(2-3) can go in either order..i just thought the ward/gatti fights were all heart and what boxing needed to get back on its feet

(keep in mind i have not seen bowe/holy trilogy yet, so i cant say anything about them)

Ali vs Frazier is number one because it had so much to do with the state of a nation and the times, it had a world wide impact.

None of the other fights, with the exception of Joe Louis vs Max Shmelling had so much to do with politics.

Gatti vs Ward, I would have to rank second.

Bowe vs Holyfield comes in third.

Barrera vs Morales is a distant fourth in my opinion, and only gets there because it is the most recent trilogy. The people who were too young to see Ali or Bowe can be expected to vote MAB vs Barrera higher....

In many of the trilogies, the second fight has the least action...

Gatti-Ward, Ali-Frazier, MAB-Morales...
Actually, I'd say the second fight bewteen Bowe & Holyfield was better than the second fight in any of those trilogies.

mic573
11-30-2004, 01:34 PM
Alot of the second fights in the trilogies are not as good as the first and third. Ali/Frazier II, Gatti/Ward II, Barrera/Morales II, and Bowe/Holyfield II were not as good as the first and third fights.

Patterson - Johanssen was a good one, though. I've been fortunate enough to get footage of all three bouts.

MAB - Morales is epic, probably the best modern trilogy. People have been talking about the political implications of Ali - Frazier but these fights are also huge politically in Mexico.

You know....it really gets no better than Wright-McKart.

"Purist's" delight !

Yup...32 rounds of southpaw feints, dekes, isolated shots with no power. Nobody down, staggered, busted up....none of that neandrethal ****.
The beauty of monotony.

&....how can you match the drama of the third fight's DQ ending ?

Gatti-Ward ? Zale-Graziano ? MAB-Morales ...LMAO at you low-brow skanks.

Great
