View Full Version : Mexico vs Puerto Rico?
bigdlb12 04-20-2005, 02:03 PM Is the fight of Margarito vs. Cintron viewed as a Mexico vs. Puerto rico type of fight, like Sanchez vs. Gomez or De la hoya vs. Trinidad, who are you pulling for and why, if you are PR or Mex, are you picking the fighter from your nationality to win?
Its pretty obvious that most mexicans are gonna go for the mexican boxer and boricuas with the boricua boxer
U just askin to start some ****.
Exciterx24 04-20-2005, 02:37 PM I really don't see it like that because Kermit is not a full blooded Boricua like Trinidad or Cotto. But still, he is from Puerto Rico and I am rooting for him all the way. I also like his style so even if he was Cuban, Spanish, or Brazilian, I would still enjoy his fights.

There is no need for that. It is such bull**** when posters mix races with arguments. It's truly pathetic. I could be wrong, but I don't think that DLB wants to start any controversy. The guy is just excited about the fight and wants to discuss about the classic rivalry between these two talent rich countries.

The thing is that he is representing PR.
Its like Kosta he represents Aus.
Im going for my paisano cause I actually think he has a shot at winning not based only cause he is my paisano.
This is gonna be a good fight! Cant wait :boxing:

I dont think its realy one of those cases,I mean its usually only that when its two very popular fighters, and while they both have their fan base, its nowhere near like what trinidad, or morales have you know? Im mexican and one of my fav fighters is cotto, so theres no need for that ****, Im rooting for margarito tho, because i think he's the better boxer, i think cintron might just be too strong for him tho, we'll see, good match up for both, great matchup for boxing fans.

Good comment...I'm PR myself and yes, I am going for Cintron but, IMO I think that Margarito is the better fighter and if the fight goes into the championship rounds Maragarito will come out on top because as we all know Cintron tires rapidly. Cintron has the power advantage. This will make for a good fight.

I'm not Puerto Rican, or Mexican...
but I'm gonna root for Cintron cuz he's a exciting fighter
I've never seen Margarito fight but Cintron is just so cool
When I first saw him fight Teddy Reid and he had that outfit of Puerto Rico and on the back of his robe it said "The Killer"
I was like DAMN this guy looks like he can fight, lets see if he can back it up, and he put up such a good fight, and I was like DAMNNNNNN I wanna see him fight again
and now he is.....Go Cintron
Hey heres a thought
what if there was a great boxer that was half boricua half mexican
That'll **** be interesting to see how the fans would act.

DLH is close to that since he married Millie Corretjer and allegedlly(because I've never seen him or even heard about him) lives here in Puerto Rico.

Imagine if Trinidad fights DeLaHoya again which most likely wont happen, then u see Millie Corretjer in the crowd with a Puerto Rico flag, what a burn to Oscar that would be....
Or if she held a mexico flag, then the puerto ricans would hate her...lol
bigdlb12 04-20-2005, 05:10 PM I want this to be a good fight, Cintron showed signs of low stamina and I hope he doesnt show that in the ring vs Margarito, they both hit hard and might be able to KO each other, but power wise I think Cintron is stronger,
P.S. For the record I was asking if this was one of those fight where it's mexico vs Puerto Rico. I feel that Cintorn will win tho
see this on is a tough one .... being boricua .... i've gotta go w/ cintron BUT i LOVE the way margarito fights, that fool's a nonstop punching machine who i was amazed with the first time i ever saw him fight, when he won the vacant wbo against diaz. i was blown cuz i love the fighting diaz, they're a great family whom many times i had the pleasure sparring w/ in coachella, and in san bernardino. i JUST now noticed that i've been preaching the margarito gospel and have been really critical of cintron. everyone knows what margarito is made up of, a hardcore fuqqin' ****** from tijuana where ****s REALLY bad. but w/ that being said, and this being the yankees vs. red sox of boxing, i have no say in it, its already in me - cuz this is a true match up - i gotta go w/ cintronito. i know there was only ONE time that a boricua was fighting a mexican and i was going for the mexican ... so ironic ... it was when julio diaz was ROBBED against angel manfredy ... i swear man, i was SOO heated that day. i'm sure there will be more like that in the future, i love the sport too much and i try to not let my rican blood in the way. but w/ this one, i've grown to like cintron even w/ his lack in stamina and TRUE boxing ability. i'm siding con el boricua en esta, pana.
cintron KO7 margarito.

**** that guy was SUPPOSED to be Jeffrey Resto, awesome amateur career and half mexican half boricua. if you guys were able to catch that fight where he got banged out by mike warrick (not banged out, it was a HELLUVA fight) the mexicans would chant ME-JI-CO ME-JI-CO and then the pr's right after would chant BO-RI-CUA BO-RI-CUA BO-RI-CUA ..... but yeah ..... homie couldn't put it all together.
lets see if this works ..

there is no such thing as being full blooded puerto rican. Your either more spanish looking, or more black looking, or your half and half. Puerto Rican is a nationality, not a race, my mother is from puerto rico, shes half black half white, she is no more "pure blooded puerto rican" than the average san juan resident.

Dude, I ain't talking about colors. I was talking about birthplace, where you were raised ,and live. Kermit lives in the States and if I'm not mistaken, he was raised in Philadelphia. I should know about my own nationality so I don't need an explanation. Cool?

When you say full blooded, you make it more along the lines of race rather than nationality. You open yourself up for debate on your "own nationality" when you refer to someone as not being "full blooded".

majority of puerto ricans have african blood in them.
If Im not mistaken the spaniards raping the blacks and Indian tribes created Latinos
Prostitroop 04-20-2005, 06:43 PM YOU FOOLS! I meant ****s as in ****fighting. :D
El Jesus 04-20-2005, 06:45 PM If Im not mistaken the spaniards raping the blacks and Indian tribes created Latinos
Puerto Rico in particular had a heavy slave presence, much like the dominican republic and cuba. Places like mexico and other places in south america had a much heavier indian population, thus african slaves were not nessecary to import, so they used indians instead.
Therefore, Puerto Ricans tend to be closer to their african roots due to the demographic ratio of african slave to indian, most of which were murdered by the spanish on the island anyway.
Therefore im gonna go ahead and side with Puerto Ricans on whos got the larger wangs.

I misunderstood what you where trying to say,I guess you play baseball and not the other thing.

Nah, at least you are okay with me. Actually I like this Chicano thing. La Onda like in Blood In, Blood Out. Did you catch that one? I have it on DVD and it kicks! The funny thing is that Benjamin Bratt is from Perú if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, he looks legit in the movie.

A toda madre o un desmadre??lol
Your right, The middle of five children, Bratt hails from a close-knit family. His mother, a Peruvian Indian from Lima, moved to the U.S. at age 14. He grew up in San Francisco. At 6'2 he must be the tallest Peruano ever!
Milko was born in Ohio but is from Mexican descent.

-GBGQ- 04-22-2005, 12:21 AM Yeah being Mexican, even if no one I meet thinks I am, I always have to pull for the mexican fighter. Prince Naseem was one of my favorite fighters but against a big name mexican, Barrera, I didn't really have a choice.
As Barrera would say, your not a good mexican if you don't root for all mexican fighters.
Moonra69 04-22-2005, 01:31 AM I consider Puertorrican anybody who wants to call himself so and has the bloodline to be so. I try to view fights realistically and also as a fan. As a fan I always want the puertorricans to win though I can acknowledge when they don't stand a chance. Still my heart is with them. As far as this posting this is old news since we have discussed that both countries have produced great fighters and arguably Mexicans boxers have beaten the best of Puerto Rico at their prime but Puertorrican fighters have the edge in championship fights between fighters of the two countries. I am making my thread on this issue a historical one to keep a record of this.
