These are my two favorite movies by my two favorite actors. Both are some of the best performances ever and these movies have a tremendous following. Choose yours.

View Full Version : Taxi Driver vs. Scarface Exciterx24 04-19-2005, 11:50 PM These are my two favorite movies by my two favorite actors. "You talkin' to me?" neils7147933 04-20-2005, 08:38 AM DeNiro shines as Travis Bickle, a young Jodie Foster teamed with the whole Hinkley thing, and a very quotable movie with memorable lines often blurs the fact that Taxi Driver really isn't all that great of a movie. Scorcese did this movie right after Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, and Mean Streets, and right before New York, New York - and I prefer all 3 movies to Taxi Driver. Scarface gets hated on because of its cult status; this is a tremendous movie, and in my opinion, has better memorable lines than Taxi Driver as well. Critics say Tony Montana as performed by Pacino is over-the-top; I say that's necessary. VERDICT: Scarface by a mile. And if you haven't seen Mean Streets, go get it. And if you haven't seen them, get Goodfellas and Casino too. Bombardier 04-20-2005, 08:43 AM Yeah, I don't really "get" Taxi Driver either, though maybe you have to be a pretentious film student to really appreciate it. Obviously it's good, but some people think it's the best thing ever committed to film. People like bashing on De Palma which is partly why Scarface has so many critics. Fact is that whenever it's on TV I have to watch it...I can't pull myself away. enadeus 04-20-2005, 09:56 AM I will have to go with Scarface. I haven't seen it untill last year actually and I have to tell you, the hype really lived up to it. I've watched it like five more times after. Classic movie. Curly 04-20-2005, 12:39 PM They're both good movies but I like raging bull and goodfellas better. |
