View Full Version : Floyd, please fight somebody
INFAMOUZ 11-27-2004, 10:00 PM Mayweather has a January 22 date on HBO, legal trouble notwithstanding. As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason we shouldn't see this guy matched not only competitively--but in mouth-watering superfights--on a regular basis. If his next fight is against someone like Junior Witter or Lovemore N'Dou, you can count me off the bandwagon. What is this guy wasting his time for-- a PPV with Gatti? He can do a whole lot better. It kills me to see a young fighter with that kind of talent and connections p!$$ it away. I wanted to be on the bandwagon from the beginning! I wanted to tell people that I remember the great Floyd Mayweather back when he beat Gernaro Hernandez for his first title. Don't get me wrong, he's still young and he still has all the potential in the world, but his career has lost so much momentum in the last couple years.
Floyd, please start the year with a Corrales rematch, Vivian Harris, the winner of Casamayor-Castillo (honestly, he beat you the first time.) If you really must protect your overhyped Gatti fight, at least give us Stevie Johnston, Acelino Freitas, or Paul Spadafora. There's no reason to fight somebody we know you can beat.
CLubberLang 11-28-2004, 12:03 AM No disrespect man but you got to pay closer attention to boxing cause PBF's career has not lost any momentum at all in the last few years. Floyd is avoided by many which is why he is the #1 contender for the WBC cause Hatton, Gatti and a lot of the other guys wouldn't fight him. Floyd should try to get paid because everyone knows that it could all end with one punch and he could be back to building up his rep again. Gatti would get killed by PBF and I cannot see anyone but KT giving him any real threat in the division. His "D" and offense is just way to good for anyone to mess with. He is the best P4P to me and I do not see anyone from 147 on down beating him unless Shane drops down. He is simply just to good.
I may be wrong but it seems like you dislike PBF because I have seen some of your other posts and you always seem to pick the majority of fighters to beat Floyd and sound as if he has no skills. I got to give you props cause you got Pacman as you avatar but if you like Manny then I cannot see how you dont like Floyd.
The Fix 11-28-2004, 01:23 AM pbf shouldnt give chico a rematch because the first match was a blowout. pbf should give the castillo-casamayor(i think casa's gonna win) winner a match though
MiguelDirrell25 12-03-2010, 03:34 PM Lol shid funny even bak in 04' floyd was duckin and divin top comp.

04-05 is where that all started at, but even when his competition imrpoved people kept saying the same thing.
If you didn't know this you weren't following the sport at the time.
Go look through old thread begging Floyd to fight Hatton, Zab, Baldomir they are awful similar to recent people that the public wants to see him fight.
-MAKAVELLI- 12-03-2010, 03:43 PM legal troubles and no fights
same sh1t, different year :D

he fought Henry Bruseles

You do know Floyd plead out just to get the Gatti fight, right? When he didn't want to, but Arum thought it was a good idea so he did.
Floyd always said he didn't ever want to do that again so his current stance makes sense.
Big Dunn 12-03-2010, 03:48 PM legal troubles and no fights
same sh1t, different year :D
If floyd really ducked and dodged his way to making $20 mil plus per fight then EVERY PRO FIGHTER would be doing the same thing.
The Gambler1981 12-03-2010, 03:49 PM he fought Henry Bruseles
Bruseles was a bum no doubt, but that was the eliminator to get to Gatti. Those others fights would not have got him the Gatti fight and allowed Gatti to get away thus not allowing Floyd to build his stature which lead to Oscar which leads to him being a huge star.
Right choice~
jrosales13 12-03-2010, 03:50 PM Eh.......he can stay on his vacation...

you wanna hear something funny?
in 04-05 i was still a ***** and i used the Bruseles fight as the reason why Cotto didn't want any part of Floyd...they put that poor Rican up there to get a closer look and didnt like what they saw
i'm so ashamed to bring that up
johncods 12-03-2010, 03:52 PM lock his punk ass up. He's irrelevant anyway.
Since 1985 12-03-2010, 03:53 PM he fought Henry Bruseles
And Pacquiao fought David Diaz and Margarito, what's your point?
-MAKAVELLI- 12-03-2010, 03:55 PM And Pacquiao fought David Diaz and Margarito, what's your point?
both of those guys would beat the sh1t out of Henry Bruseles
run along noob :lol1:
Carpe Diem 12-03-2010, 03:56 PM If/when he come back, oh well. If not, there are other Boxers to talk about.
jrosales13 12-03-2010, 03:57 PM And Pacquiao fought David Diaz and Margarito, what's your point?
We're comparing Margarito to Bruseles? WTF?
David Diaz as a skill level, like A or B or C level of a fighter, he is comparable to Baldomir.
Now if we want to compare Diaz and Baldomir to Bruseles than so be it... I personally think Diaz and Baldo are above him.

Didn't care that he fought Bruseles since I knew the circumstance but I always knew he was just a means to an end. Atleast you can admit something like that though that takes being a big man.
04-05 is when all the current talk about Floyd started, no one really cared about him except hard core fans but in 04-05 he started to generate a lot of ill will which has built consistently to this day. Kim and Fischer started it, then when he left Arum, Bob took it to a whole different level then everyone started getting in on the act as it became what a lot of fans wanted to hear.
The Gatti fight was a better example since Cotto was right there and the look on his face was not one which I would call excited to see Floyd in the ring.

besides harris everyone on that list was at a lower weight so why would floyd go back down in weight to fight them especially after floyd beat 2 of them 3 times(castillo, corrales) and vivian harris got knocked out the day floyd stopped gatti
bestboxingonly 12-03-2010, 03:58 PM wow a very long time dig. :boxing:
Pacdbest 12-03-2010, 03:59 PM And Pacquiao fought David Diaz and Margarito, what's your point?
the point is Pac fought Margarito with no fear whatsoever. Floyd ducks cheato for years!! And now he's ducking pac.

why didn't floyd fight ricky and cotto at 140?oh thats right their promotors were scared to put them in the ring with floyd as both promoters said they werent ready for floyd the only other fighter worth mentionin at the time was harris but he got knocked out on the undercard of the floyd gatti fight

Everybody makes a big deal about Cotto face, when there is really nothing dare.
Cotto has the same damn demeanor every time. I saw Cotto face and I never got the impression in any way shape and form scared of Floyd. I saw the same demeanor in his face when he got in the ring with Gomez and the same one when he got in the ring with Marg or Pac. Really there was no difference in his facial expression that night. it just Cotto being Cotto...
And, not saying that Floyd ducked Cotto, Arum wasn't eager to put him in there at 140. And, nether Cotto nor Floyd really seem to really want to mix it up in 2008 when it would have been the best time. But that whole look at Cotto demeanor gets blown way out of proportion.

In 2004, Pac's fighting JMM, barrera and targetting Morales. It takes years for floyd to have the balls to face the old jmm!

If you can't see it you are not looking at the right things. It is the look in his eyes, something people can't hide or even really control.
Not saying that Cotto ducked him or is even scared but he knew that night that was not a man ever to be taken lightly. Arum certainly knows that also, for all the **** he talks/talked about Floyd he certainly does not take what Floyd is capable of in the ring lightly.

Sold the most boxing ppv's this year and, I believe, the biggest or 2nd bidggest selling ppv of all this year. His arrest generates as much press as the 2nd biggest boxer's last fight. Not irrelevant.

Not hurt at all. Just saying I thought his mosley fight was the biggest or 2nd biggest ppv this year, behind lesnar carwin. It was by far the biggest boxing ppv.
So its clear he isn't irrelevant.
Like Ian Poulter told Tiger Woods the other day, "Calm down #2" Peace!

Dude is really irrelevant in the sport as far as I am concerned.
I even stated that here ^^^^^^ "as far as I am concerned" I am talking about me...
Is funny that me thinking Floyd is irrelevant to the sport got Dunn and the other noob in their period.
jrosales13 12-03-2010, 04:42 PM Again Floyd Mayweather can stay in his vacation....
He is irrelevant to the sport as far as I am concerned...
Yes his legal problems but to me I don't know about anybody but me personally that has nothing to do with the sport...There is no talks on who and when his next fight is going to be. No negotiations, nothing so he is irrelevant to the sport as far as I am concerned..
I could careless if he comes back or not...

If you don't care if he comes back at all the last line should read I could not care less.
Saying you could care less mean you care about it and could care less, putting not in there means it is at the bottom of things you care about.
You are misguided though great practitioners of the sport are rare in the best of times, as fans we should always want to see these men compete so you should care about that.

Again you might want him to come back...That is good for you. Hope he does for your sake...
For me personally, he is no Tito. He is greater than Tito but he is no Tito, so for me if he comes back?OK...if he doesn't? OK...I honestly don't care...
I would care if Oscar comeback and let Marg have plaster on his wraps and fought him. I would care if Oscar comeback and fought Glen Johnson at 170. I would care if Oscar came back and fought Pac anywhere from 144-150
Out of all the fighters who are in talks about as if is he coming back is he not...Oscar is the one I would say that I might care...Floyd? Sorry I don't care if he is on vacation for the rest of his life, chillin in his yacht with his wife...
There was a point and time when Floyd did it for me...But, he doesn't do it for me any longer. I am really not interested in him anymore...
I don't care what he decides to do....Really this might hurt your feeling but **** Floyd. I am sorry I know you're in love with him and he is your boy and you enjoy watching him...But, when it comes to him now for me anyways is eh.......Whatever.

If you don't care about true excellence in the ring that is on you, there will always be great fighters but it is rare to see true excellence in the sweet science. If you can't see that, that is on you and is your issue not mine.
I really don't care what you say as it doesn't hurt me, just don't get mad when I question what you are looking at in the sport as what you are saying here is foolish at best.
