Moscow - Politician and former chess world champion Garry Kasparov was struck over the head with a chess board after a meeting with youth activists in Moscow, reports said on Saturday.

Kasparov, who addressed the meeting late on Friday on the topic of forming a united democratic front against President Vladimir Putin, was assaulted by a teenager who approached him asking for an autograph.

The young man asked Kasparov to sign the chess board, then hit him with it, reports said, quoting Kasparov's press office.

Kasparov, who announced his retirement from chess recently to concentrate on his political ambitions, has blamed a pro-Kremlin youth organisation for orchestrating the assault.

The former world champion is co-chair of the Committee 2008 opposition party. - Sapa-dpa

Strange things tend to happen in Moscau recently. But I've never heard of a GM getting attacked with a chess board. If even Bobby Fischer didn't do that who would? ;)

I don't think that Kasparov is really hurt so I guess he only swung at him. Still some crazy **** though.
