View Full Version : Erik Morales wants WBC lightweight title.. Even if Corrales wins.

Currently in Tijuana, currenly dedicated to taking care of a few business matters, Erik "Terrible" Morales declared yesterday that he wants to negotiate with his promoter, Bob Arums, so he can face Diego "Chico" Corrales, or #1 ranked WBC contender Michael Clark in July in Las Vegas.
"There is nothing definitive in terms to my next fight. The only sure thing is that I will fight in July. The opponent, I have to talk later on with Bob Arum to see what he has to offer."
Morales explained that his desire is to fight for the WBC lightweight title, and so he will wait for the results of the May 7 bout between WBC champ Jose Luis Castillo and WBO champ Diego Corrales.
"If Castillo wins, his next bout is secure against Kostya Tszyu for the junior Welterweight championship of the world. That means he would leave the title vacant and thats where i would like to come in. Fighting for the crown against the opponent that the WBC puts," said El Terrible.
Morales might fight Britain's Michael Clark (current #1 ranked contender) for the WBC title.
"If Corrales wins, I would challenge him for the Title", added Morales who also doesnt discard the opportunity to figh for a world title of another oganization.
"We have to wait for the result between Castillo and Corrales, then we'll see", said Erik.
I would like to see Morales fight anybody. I have loved everyone of his fights. It would also be nice if he eventually gave Pacman another shot.
Bombardier 04-15-2005, 12:24 PM Does he really think that he could get Corrales to fight again in July? I doubt he'd put his titles on the line against a quality opponent so soon after winning them, if he wins.
Is Morales positive that JL Castillo is next on Zoo's list? If I was JL I would want Gatti and If I was Zoo I would look at Oscar or Zab.
JL beates Morales in a war...Morales would put forth a great effort but he could never hurt Castillo and Castillo would hurt Erik every time he landed.
AintGottaClue 04-15-2005, 12:36 PM eriks balls r gettign in his way, i cant see him beating corrales or freitas or JLC
tracylee 04-15-2005, 12:58 PM eriks balls r gettign in his way, i cant see him beating corrales or freitas or JLC
I can...he's been underestimated before, but usually manages to pull thur
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 04-15-2005, 01:13 PM I can also see him beating Corrales.
m00ks 04-15-2005, 01:14 PM So we'll NEVER see Castillo-Morales? :(
bigdlb12 04-15-2005, 01:16 PM I say morales can beat corrales and possibly frietas,JLC might be a diff story,
tracylee 04-15-2005, 01:24 PM I say morales can beat corrales and possibly frietas,JLC might be a diff story,
Understandable...JLC is a better boxer than Chico. But I still think Erik can take him :D (or atleast give him one hell of a struggle!!)
{BrownBomber} 04-15-2005, 01:30 PM I would love to say Morales can beat anyone at 135 except Castillo ofcourse but it really hard. I think he wants to make history. I think he would be the first Mexican to win Championships in 4 diff. weight divisions. If he does do this it would put him right next to Chavez as the best out of Mexico.

Chavez vs Morales DAMN!
{BrownBomber} 04-15-2005, 01:49 PM Chavez vs Morales DAMN!
You mean a fantasy fight?
bigdlb12 04-15-2005, 01:58 PM yeah cause morales had fought the best
AintGottaClue 04-15-2005, 02:35 PM corrales and freitas will hit morales harder then anyone ever before, if morales is gettign staggered by flyweights and guys liek barrera i can not seem him standing up, he will nto outbox these guys cause morales doesnt liek getting hurt once he gets tapped boom its tiem to fight which will get him KO'd
Floydmayweather 04-15-2005, 02:56 PM I think Morales ability to throw punches from all angles will get him a victory over Corales.
amaru 04-15-2005, 03:12 PM erik morales on his day can beat ANYONE at 135lbs (yeah i said it) and this is coming from a massive barrera fan. if he boxes rather then slug it out, he can win a title at 135 lbs.
The Fix 04-15-2005, 03:16 PM morales should fight casamayor
abdiel2k3 04-15-2005, 03:20 PM i see an easy fght with frietas
cuz frietas struggled big time iwht barrios
and i see a tough dangerous fight against chico
i dont like him fighten JLC but i think he can outbox him
yeah cause morales had fought the best
whos da chick in da avtar?
Shaolin Bushido 04-15-2005, 03:25 PM I can also see him beating Corrales.
Me too! I know Corrales has power and size over him but he's had that on all his opponents. Very few of them had the savvy of Morales.
My only reservation is if Morales would be the same fighter we've seen in the past with yet another move up in weight. And he's at the point in his career where his age could show on him any minute.
It's worth it for him to challenge these guys in my opinion because they're big fights and he'll make good money but he must remain honest and have influential people around him to force him to face facts and give it up when that time comes.
If he doesn't, he could be hurt or absorb losses to fighters he never would have lost to under normal circumstances.
juanvalverde 04-16-2005, 01:34 AM wont happen against castillo, they are stable mates...my guess is that he'll go against diaz.
Tha Greatest 04-16-2005, 01:39 AM Jose Luis Castillo would beat Morales
JLC ain't gonna fight like Pacquiao HAHHAA

thats underestimating Morales' chin...which is quite impressive!
Him getting tagged and reacting the way he does (all out brawl) is more bad news for the OTHER guy than for him!
grimeycat 04-16-2005, 12:30 PM morales wont fight castillo.........
Super_Lightweight 04-16-2005, 12:36 PM Erik Morales will not beat Corrales or Castillo. Morales has good boxing skills but those two guys have the size and power to really **** Morales up. Morales coulnd't put Pac down who used to be like 108 lbs...he will NEVER hurt Corrales or Castillo.
Castillo would maul him the whole fight and Corrales would proably KO him with a brutal flurry or combo.

Corrales has power (so did Pac) but not alot of skill...and a questionable chin at that. Erik's hardest test would definately be Castillo...in my opinion anyway, but chico wouldnt be too hard to overcome.
Super_Lightweight 04-16-2005, 12:48 PM Chico is too tall and big for Morales. Chico will not get KO'd vs a guy like Morales. Morales does not have the power, simple as that. Diego comes into fights weighing 147. He is tall as hell. Morales power is not even that great at 130, it will be worse at 135.
Pac's power is not the same as Diego's. I dislike Diego very much but he is better than Erik because he is bigger and stronger.

We just disageee on many pt's here...I think that Erik has more power than you give him credit for..and yes, Chico is extremely tall, especially for his wt. The best way to take a guys height away is body shots and to get inside. Erik can handle him..and like I said, Chico doesnt have the best chin. Just my opinion, and of course I could have it all wrong!
oldgringo 04-16-2005, 02:08 PM Chico has impressive power, and is tall/rangy. He has enough power to eventually stop Morales if he constantly lands later on in the fight. He doesn't have the power to stop Morales with one punch. Erik's chin is better than his, and better than anyone's outside of JLC 135 and down.
That being said, Erik has a fair chance at beating Corrales, but a very very remote chance of beating JLC.
Morales could KD Corrales with a good punch or two...Corrales doesn't have this granite chin. Morales wouldn't be able to KO him but he's definitely susceptible to being put on his ass if he's not careful. Morales' punches still hurt even if he's not able to KO elite guys anymore. It's not like Corrales is just going to be able to man up and walk through everything he throws like they're nothing.
jack_the_rippuh 04-16-2005, 05:57 PM In my opinion Corrales' chin isn't that good, and I think Morales' power isn't that good either, however, I wouldn't doubt if he knocked Corrales down once or twice, though..
Both fights are fights Morales wants since he's so interested in fighting PBF's leftovers..

beacause of the wifebeater's chin, i can see Erik beating him, not by knockout though, Morales is faster than Chico, and if he gives him enough of a body beating early in the fight ( which he has to do to take the edge off Chico's power ), also as others have said Chico has limited skills and Morales is a great boxer ...but EM should stay the **** away from JL Castillo ( who's prob moving up after he beats the wifebeater anyway )

Did Corrales beat up his wife or something?

I dont think it has anything to do with 'leftovers'...hell, theyre all leftovers if you think about it. It's not really anybodys fault that Erik is just now moving up to that wt. I'd say Pretty Boy is the last thing on Eriks mind really considering he doesnt need him to prove a thing!
tracylee 04-16-2005, 08:47 PM Did Corrales beat up his wife or something?
You havent heard about that yet? Thats where he disappeared to for those 2 yrs (prison) for beating up his PREGNANT wife (at that time anyway, but not the woman he's currently married to)...but he did say in an interview in Ring Mag. that "she played her part"! My response to that will always be "she's not a trained professional in the art of asswhipping though Chico"!! That's the reason so many have the opinion of him that they do...regardless of him having done his time, so to speak, he shows no regret/remorse whatsoever...other than doing time of course!

No, unfortunately it's too true! :(
lb.4lb.rob 04-17-2005, 10:38 AM he's running from barrera,and casamayor
JOM'S 04-17-2005, 11:24 AM Erik all the way, hope he wins his 4th title in a diff division ....
i know for the first time he will be facing a guy really bigger than him, but I think Erik will hold up, even though he will be the underdog against Chico ...
my only problem now, is how can I see the PAC-Morales re-match if his goin up to 135 ???
phallus 04-17-2005, 07:52 PM thanks..well I only started watching boxing last year

joking??? **** no, i wish, chico used to tune up with his wife, he used her for a punching bag - that's why from the moment i heard that i always refer to corrales as the wifebeater
adeelr 04-17-2005, 08:14 PM morales can fight anyone right now, he is the kind of fighter that when he loses he gets better so, losing wouldn't make him any less of a fighter, he will probably bounce back up and knock a couple people out.
