View Full Version : Which type generates more power? Mares 11-30-2009, 01:13 PM Having broad shoulders or longer arm length? Richie-G 11-30-2009, 01:47 PM i think its more to do with leverage you can get into your punches, also watch percentage of muscle fibres you have. I don't think that a certain appearance punches harder than another. ANIMOSITY 11-30-2009, 01:55 PM longer arms = more powerful straight punches shorter arms = more powerful hooks mrboxer 11-30-2009, 02:41 PM it does not make a difference what so ever, look at marciano he had the shortest reach of any heavyweight champ and he is considered and recognized has a power house, and look at some of these big studs that walk in the ring with their arms bulging and their shoulders the size of a small mountain, and yet they seem to all get pummeled because they are slow,:boxing: sukhenkoy 11-30-2009, 02:47 PM Having thunder thighs. mrboxer 11-30-2009, 03:15 PM thunder thighs, will slow you down,it is good to have average thighs that are in proportion with your shoulders and your biceps,:boxing: Mares 11-30-2009, 03:34 PM it does not make a difference what so ever, look at marciano he had the shortest reach of any heavyweight champ and he is considered and recognized has a power house, and look at some of these big studs that walk in the ring with their arms bulging and their shoulders the size of a small mountain, and yet they seem to all get pummeled because they are slow,:boxing: opps i forgot to put this ***ot on ignore list. :wtf: Mares 11-30-2009, 03:37 PM i think its more to do with leverage you can get into your punches, also watch percentage of muscle fibres you have. I believe it is fast twitch muscle fibers that generate more (explosive) power than slow twitch fibers Richie-G 11-30-2009, 03:46 PM i suppose having more fast twitch fibres would mean more power, but i'm no expert on the subject. Mares 11-30-2009, 03:55 PM how to develop fast twitch muscle then? does weight lifting improve it? Richie-G 11-30-2009, 04:11 PM its genetically determined, you are born with a certain amount of fast twitch fibres and slow twitch ones, hence why we have sprinters and marathon runners. You can train them to a certain extent, in that you can become more explosive using plyometrics and explosive forms of weigthlifting. RightCross94 11-30-2009, 04:48 PM Shorter stockier types with thick legs and torso's are generally able to get more leverage into punches like hooks and uppercuts (case in point: Mike Tyson) Long, tall types with long arms are able to get more leverage into the long straight punches (Tommy Hearns) vietsouthpaw 11-30-2009, 10:28 PM Having broad shoulders or longer arm length? well i think the power of the punch is the snap and weight distribution from your legs....but i agree with right cross if anything having broad shoulders helps more than having longer arms :boxing: |
