Jeff Lacy will defend his IBF title against Robin Reid on August 6th.

Lacy's toughest test so far, I think Lacy is taking a big risk fighting Reid if he loses the Calzaghe fight definetley won't happen.

I think Reid UD.

this will be a good fight, robin reid is a good fighter, this will give good indication of how good lacy is, and if he puts on a good show calzaghe might not fancy his chances against him

Can't see Lacy hurting Reid, Reid has one of the best chins in boxing.

This is one of those threads in which you obviously have the English guys who are saying Reid, even though he has never fought in America and is 34. And then you have the 2000 US Olympian who has excellent KO power and is much younger and puts relentless pressure on his opposition. My pick is Jeff Lacy by late KO or unanimous decision.

both good fighters

it should be noted that reid was literally robbed against sven ottke in his 2nd last fight is it? and he beat magee in his last fight so hes not too bad at all...

if he comes in with a good mental strength and in top shape it should be a good contest but i think at this stage lacy might just be a bit too strong for him...

also if this fight takes place i guess lacy calzaghe could only be december or early next year at the earliest?

is Robin Reid related to David Reid?

This is a great matchup Lacy the agressive banger in there with the well schooled Olympic big time amateur hero. If reid can counterpunch and Jab as good as reuben Williams but stay off the ropes he will win a UD.

One common thread in those guys you mentioned, all of them were European protected fighters. I could care less about Ottke or Calzaghe or any of those other 168 lbers. Unless you fight in Vegas or NY or NJ, you aren't anything.

One of the best, yes. I don't see Lacy being able to stop him either. He might outwork him, but only if he doesn't spend himself early vainly trying to get the KO. Ried is a fair smart fella, and I expect him to come on fairly strong after 4 or so, when Lacy has expended a good amount of his energy swinging for the fences. If there's a KO in this fight, I feel like it'll be Lacy getting stopped, not Ried. If Lacy is smart, he'll take his time and just win rounds, saving energy for the home stretch where he'll need it the most. I don't think there's any other way for him to beat Ried.

that a bit harsh, a lot of great boxers have not fought there, also calzaghe has beaten former world champions, and top 10 rated fighters so he still deserves a bit of respect, just as reid does

Reid will get beat, IMO Reid is the better fighter but he hasnt got the mental determination to win. Lacy should break him down and win by UD.

I get the feeling that Brian Hughes fighters have a lot of ability but not much heart. I cant remember the last time i watched one dig deep, go to war and win.

Ottke is a over protected ******* but your so wrong about the others, i think its become a habit for US fighters to duck UK super middle's. I'm glad Lacy's a fighter with some balls because the divison was getting boring.

And what if I fight in Staples center, LA :(
Anyways I predict Lacy will beat Reid by ud.
Calzaghe though would be a much tougher challenge. I think that Joe is way to experience for now but in a year or two my man Lacy will be ready. Especially with his level of competition and staying busy.

I think Lacy would give Calzaghe a good fight now, Calzaghe likes to fight macho and forgets about his defence. IMO Calzaghe would win but anythings possible.

Reid allowed Ottke to rob him, i dont think he has the same pride as someone like Calzaghe/Lacy. I know the Reid vs Ottke ref was terrible(the worst i've ever seen) but Calzaghe/Lacy would rather get disqualified than let a ref stop them from throwing legal punches.

Lacy will get a UD against Reid.

Look, America is the Mecca of boxing world so no wonder some fans dont recognise european fighter. Now I know that boxing is dying in US and growing in Europe(at a high pace I have to admit) but still the old US of A is the place where all big fights are. Maybe in a future this will be different but we will see.

reid UD, will be a great lesson for him thoughYeah, he can apply those lessons learned versus Calzaghe after he earns a late stoppage versus Reid.

Lacy-Reid Negotiations Break Down - Lacy Looking for New Opponent

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (April 14, 2005) -- The negotiations between IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and IBF No. 3 contender Robin Reid have broken down. Lacy had hoped to defend his title against Reid, Saturday, August 6, in a Showtime-televised world title homecoming in Tampa, FL..

"The only thing I can conclude is that Reid does not really want the fight," said promoter Gary Shaw. "We have been negotiating in good faith with Reid's representative, Jess Harding, something I cannot say about the Reid camp. The negotiations are over and Jeff has asked me to move on and find another high caliber contender to challenge Jeff for his title in conjunction with the IBF. We are hopeful to be making that announcement shortly."
