Even though “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2? pulled in a cool $3,003,250 at the gate, the event only sold 6,631 of the available 10,762 tickets. Obviously, these were the after effects of losing its original main event only a month prior to the event.

The UFC comped 3,898 tickets while 223 additional tickets went unsold.

It’ll be interesting to see how the pay-per-view buys do as Ortiz is normally a big draw for the promotion.

Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz in a re-match of their bout at UFC 59 which Ortiz won by splt decision, prompting talks of a rubber match between the two former light heavyweight champions.

A third fight would probably need to be chaperoned by a bigger fight to make the event, so we’ll see if the UFC wants to put together Ortiz vs. Griffin for a third time.

Priceless

it was a very weak main event for a ppv card

the UFC are putting on too many ppvs these days and trying to milk as much money as possible, they should make fewer ppvs with more stacked cards and more free cards with lesser names, **** paying for like 15 ppv's a year.

I agree, way too many UFC PPV's .. 107 looks pretty good at the moment if all fights go through

but does the UFC need a PPV every month? I know that's been their formula, but IMO they should scale back a bit

the UFC claims their champions fight 3 times a year, there are 5 weight classes, that means in theory there should be 15 title fights a year, which should mean that if they were to do a ppv every month, they would easily be able to have atleast one title fight every ppv, sadly this isn't the case

Well when you have two big cards inside of one week, you can't expect for both of them to be high sellers. Especially when nobody gives a **** about the card to begin with.

With the facts at hand, it's projected as low 400k.

Which is okay with all the problems they had.
