German referee Markus Merk took the players off the pitch after Inter fans began hurling plastic bottles and then over 30 flares on to the penalty area below them after a header from Esteban Cambiasso was disallowed.

Dida received medical treatment to his shoulder while Inter players urged their fans to stop the hurling of objects on to the pitch.

Milan were leading 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Andriy Shevchenko which had put them 3-0 up on aggregate after they won last week's first-leg 2-0.

``After the goal was annulled, the fans' anger was understandable, although the reaction of throwing objects onto the field is not justified,'' Inter defender Ivan Cordoba said.

When Merk tried to restart the game, Christian Abbiati took over from Dida in goal for AC Milan.

``He's OK, although he does have some pain where he was hit,'' AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf said. ``The government, the entire country, has to understand that something must be done.''

Andriy Shevchenko scored the only goal in the 30th minute. The Union of European Football Associations said it will decide whether the result of the game stands.

In Tuesday's other game, Chelsea lost 3-2 at Bayern Munich but advanced on 6-5 aggregate in the home-and-home, total-goals series.

Frank Lampard, who scored two goals in the first leg, scored in the 30th minute but Claudio Pizarro tied the score in the 65th. Didier Drogba put Chelsea back ahead in the 80th, but Bayern got goals from Paolo Guerrero in the 90th and Mehmet Scholl in the fifth minute of injury time.

``You can see the hunger in the players to win this thing,'' Lampard said.

On Wednesday, Liverpool takes a 2-1 lead into its game at Juventus of Turin and Lyon travels to PSV Eindhoven following a 1-1 tie in last week's first leg. Chelsea plays the Liverpool-Juventus winner.

In Wednesday's other quarterfinal, host PSV Eindhoven and Olympique Lyon again played to a 1-1 draw. After two scoreless 15-minute overtime periods, the Dutch side won on penalty kicks, 4-2, to move on.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> It was the first time that Liverpool - which faces fellow Premier League squad Chelsea in the semifinals - had played in Turin since the Heysel Stadium disaster 20 years ago in the European Cup final. Fears of retribution from Juventus supporters for the deaths of 39 of their fans in Brussels in 1985 had been rife.

Local police had initiated a 48-hour alcohol ban as well as advising Liverpool fans not to go into certain areas of the city center. One supporter of the Merseyside squad was attacked by a group of Juventus fans at a pub Tuesday night but did not require hospitalization.

Things were especially tense after the events at San Siro in Milan on Tuesday, where the match was suspended in the 73rd minute after Internazionale supporters threw a handful of flares onto the pitch, including one that hit AC Milan goalkeeper Dida.

Milan, which held a 2-0 lead after the first leg, had grabbed a 3-0 aggregate lead after a goal by Andriy Shevchenko before the flares were thrown. UEFA is expected to officially grant victory to Milan on Friday at its headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

But with an 1,100-strong police force on hand, crowd violence was not a problem at Stadio Delle Alpi. Goals were for Juventus.

Having scored a crucial away goal at Anfield, all Juventus needed to reach the penultimate round was a 1-0 victory. But Liverpool played tenacious defense throughout, and Juventus missed its best chance when Fabio Cannavaro hit the right post with a header in the 78th minute.

The English squad blanketed Juventus thereafter, and when the final whistle blew after three minutes of second-half stoppage time, the small but dedicated group of Liverpudlians started jumping up and down.

Most impressively, Liverpool was without its best player and captain, midfielder Steven Gerrard, who is battling a groin injury. French striker Djibril Cisse played for the first time since breaking his leg in a league match against Blackburn in October but was not much of a factor off the bench.

In the Netherlands, Sylvain Wiltord's sixth goal of the competition gave three-time defending French League champion Lyon an aggregate 2-1 lead just 10 minutes into its second-leg encounter with PSV.

But the Eredivisie power equalized in the five minutes after the break on a strike by Brazilian striker Alex. Neither team scored again in the second half or in 30 minutes of overtime.

PSV goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes made two saves on penalty kicks by Lyon, including one on Eric Abidal in the fourth round immediately after American DaMarcus Beasley had his kick up the middle saved by Lyon's Gregory Coupet.

Brazilian striker Robert then sent PSV into the semifinals with a kick near the upper left corner of the net.

LONDON, April 15 (Reuters) - Arsenal's top scorer Thierry Henry has been ruled out of their FA Cup semi-final against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday due to a groin injury.

The absence of the France striker, the English Premier League's top scorer with 25 goals, is a big blow to the champions for whom the game in Cardiff represents their last route to a trophy this season.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> Arsenal will also be without England centre back Sol Campbell who has failed to recover from an ankle injury in time.

"Henry is out with a groin problem," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told reporters at Arsenal's training ground on Friday.

"It is an inflammation of his groin. We have to check that by scan today to find out how long he will be out.

"He could be out for a few weeks, he could be out for a few days. It could be quite serious.

"It is a big blow. We wanted Thierry with us but on the other hand we have to focus on the strengths we have and make sure we have enough to go through."

Campbell, Arsenal's defensive rock, has not played since February 1 due to an ankle injury. Wenger said: "Campbell practises and is close to full, full competitive fitness, but he is not involved."

Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure and Swiss Philippe Senderos are likely to play in central defence.

Wenger will be able to select Swedish midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, who has happy memories of Cardiff after scoring a spectacular goal in Arsenal's 2002 FA Cup final win over Chelsea. He has shaken off a hip problem.

Spanish striker Jose Antonio Reyes and Brazilian midfielder Edu have recovered from knocks although goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has a groin injury and full back Gael Clichy is out after foot surgery.
