View Full Version : Tyson with one more shot at championship?
Super_Lightweight 04-09-2005, 12:46 PM Well, Tyson does get tired quick, and he will never but what he used to be, but...
What if he fights the winner of Ruiz-Toney?
Could he be a champ again? I think it is certainly within the realm of possiblity. Ruiz and Toney are both the type of guys who would be right in front of Tyson all night. Could he make their nights short and once again earn a belt?
Just wondering what yall think. I was thinking about this and it doesn't sound so crazy. However, if Don King is involved maybe Mike would not want the fight? I don't know much about that.
The Troll 04-09-2005, 12:51 PM Yes he can be a champ again.
Tyson wins against Byrd
Tyson wins against Ruiz
Tyson wins against Brewster
Tyson wins against Golota
Tyson vs Klistchko- Klistchko would most probably win.
Tyson vs Toney - Intersting fight probably I'd favor Tyson
But Tyson can definitely easily get one or two of the belts. I dont think he has much chance of beating Klistchko though, who is the real heavywieght champion.
Golota should rematch Tyson to try to redeam himself in the eyes of alot of people. But Golota does not have the his main tool anymore which was his left jab. His left jab is gone due to injury in car accident, so he is not going to be able to outbox Tyson now, if he could not 5 years ago. Golota might have had a chance to beat Tyson 5 years ago if he was not injured by Tyson's overhand right in the 1st round. He was outboxing Tyson very well in the second round.
I would really like to see Toney vs Tyson. But I dont see Toney ever running his mouth calling Tyson a bum or anything, so I dont think Toney wants any part of Tyson. Toney is intimidated by Tyson.
jack_the_rippuh 04-09-2005, 12:58 PM You people fail to realize that Tyson is on his way to cleaning out the division. He's going to beat up Vitali.
paul750 04-09-2005, 12:59 PM i think tyson would play into ruiz's hands because his style of holding would frustrate tyson just like holyfield did, bryd looks to be fading a bit, but i still think he has enough to frustrate tyson also like he did with tua, golota is not a champ so that's a worthless fight, he may have a chance with brewster but he needs to win early, thats the problem with tyson, he's just a 2 round fighter these days

Golota needs to win early against Brewster
I think not. Golota sometimes fades late, but he wont against the likes of Brewster, He will able to dictate the pace of the bout the entire match. Golota will be an alphabet champ in may so he is a guy you have to mention. Whether you like him or not.
Plus Golota is definitely on the level of at least Chris Byrd he was totally robbed in that fight. He would have won by Majority descision but Melvina Latham gave Byrd the last round, a round that was undeniably totally dominated by Golota, and that round decided the fight. Weisfeld had Golota by 2 Cappacino had it a draw and Latham would have had it a draw but she gave Byrd round 12, which was perhaps the most descisive round of the fight for either fighter.

no i meant tyson needs to win early, but that's the only way i can see tyson winning anyway, golota has had his chances, if he loses again he should quit and give some other guy a chance
against Ruiz he could, maybe. Against Toney, no, no way in hell he would win. Tyson is over.
The Troll 04-09-2005, 09:25 PM Tyson has a chance against any of the aphabet champs, just not Klistchko, he would have a good chance to beat toney.
Zab Super Judah 04-09-2005, 09:42 PM tyson should jus fight brewster
czars_salad 04-09-2005, 09:46 PM Tyson has a chance against any of the aphabet champs, just not Klistchko, he would have a good chance to beat toney.
he can't reach vitali, tyson has slowed down already
tyson should jus fight brewster
this is the fight!
The Troll 04-10-2005, 12:22 AM I cant believe you guys have so little respect for Tyson the only heavyweight you give him a chance against is Brewster, he is better than that, even at 38.
neils7147933 04-10-2005, 12:25 AM Too many posters on this board want to be overly dramatic. Tyson's got more than "one chance" left. If Golota can get 5, Tyson can get a couple more...

Anyone who thinks he is out of the picture, needs to have their morning coffee. That bastard is a key player in the division, supported by his status as a "rugged Powerpuncher". I was suprised to see all of the people who counted him out in my "Tyson's remaining potential" thread. IMO, they do not know boxing. Look at every heavyweight, and their flaws. Can anyone actually name more fighters who would beat him than ones who would lose by Knockout? I think not. People need to quit underestimating him, regardless of whether or not they like him. I do NOT like him personally, yet I will be one of the last fruitcakes who counts him out. That is just a no fugging brainer by all means.
Danny Williams barely beat him. He was lucky to survive.......
And dont argue with me. I have watched the fight 5 times. Mike with a healthy knee would demolish that wierdo.
mic573 04-10-2005, 12:40 AM I think people need to stop putting so much faith in Tyson because he is just going to disappoint his fans again. Trust me he will fight nothing but no hopers for awhile then fight for a title and lose. It's the same story over and over. The man doesn't want to be champ he just wants money and I wouldn't be suprised if one of those nobodies he will be fighting beats him.

Golota has Don King behind him and Tyson doesn't. That's why Golota is getting his title shots.

You smoke Russell Crowe's Pole. You odd fruit-topping.

"Tyson is on his way to cleaning out the division." In what world? He got KO'ed by who??? That's right a nobody!
Running with Knives? Keep running!
PessimisticPug 04-10-2005, 02:18 AM What has Tyson done to even deserve a shot at the title? If Tyson gets a shot it will be solely based on what he did or was doing 10 or 15 years ago. Tyson is older, slower and has lost whatever sharness he had back in the day. I have not been impressed with anything that he has done since getting out of the joint. The only thing that Tyson is anymore is a marquee name and even that is fading fast. I dont think that Tyson will win another title. And if everything was done properly, meaning that he would have to beat some top contenders before getting his shot, I dont think he would make it through the process to the title. King could just give him the shot because he knows that the fight would generate the $'s because while Tyson is no longer a top fighter he is still a curiosity in the general publics eyes...............Rockin' :boxing:

I really dont think tyson would last against brewster, Brewster can take one hell of a shot and seems to get stronger as the fight goes on. I think it would be a great fight though with Brewster winning in round 6 or 7 via KO

the same could be said for Wlad or Golota, neither of the 3 deserve a title shot. but as we she logic doesn't mean ****. I do have 1 question, After brewster beats Golota and Toney beats Ruiz, does that mean that Golota can challange Toney, since he seems to only get to fight champions.

Golota deserves a title shot because he was robbed against Byrd and is the rightful owner of the IBF championship. YOu can make a case that he deserves John Ruiz' WBA title but I wont because I think Golota lost that fight.
And why did you ever bring Wladimir Klistchko into this, he has nothing to do with anything he is not considered a contender anymore of scheduled for any title bouts in the near future. Who mentioned anything about Wladimir Klistchko? He is totally irrelevant to this discusion. He is never going to capture a title again the guy is finished. Nobody in any boxing press or promoters or anything are talking about Vladimir for a title shot right now so I have no idea why you decided to mention him. Tyson and Golota are contenders, Wlad is not. We are talking about contenders here Wlad is not this category at the present time.
Golota or Tyson would end Wlad's career if they fought.
Komandos 04-10-2005, 07:18 AM But Tyson is old for boxing and narkotik's,alkohol.
Mike Tyson will get alot more chances, even if he loses the next fight. The reason is simple enough; he is Mike Tyson. A living legend. His fights will make money for years to come if he decides to risk his health and keep on fighting. People seem to never stop believing in him, always saying he could be champion again.
As a contender he is finished. No way in hell does Tyson win another title. If he continues boxing, he will be facing bums. Knocking out a few, and probably getting knocked out himself along the way. To put Tyson in the ring with a champion is just stupid. Tyson would risk getting seriously hurt in a fight like that. Ten years ago he would clean out the division, but not anymore.

Your right, but he could possibly get one of the smaller belts like the WBO or IBF.
tysonortiz 04-12-2005, 02:31 AM He shouldnt. Hes career is over. People need to realize that.
baard 04-12-2005, 07:21 AM I really hope he gets a few wins, that would get me happy. I don't want to see two fights and than a title fight, because when that happens it will be the same story as it has been the last few years; Tyson throws his shots for the first rounds and than will get hammered for X rounds. No fun to watch that.
czars_salad 04-12-2005, 07:37 AM He shouldnt. Hes career is over. People need to realize that.
yeah! the guy is already beaten up, mentally and physically. the more beatings he get, chances are he'll end up spending his lifetime either in a hospital or in a mental assylum
The Troll 04-12-2005, 08:07 AM I have a feeling we are going to see Toney vs. Tyson before its all said and done for Mike Tyson. I would love to see that fight actually, despite what Tyson's detractors say I think Tyson has a better chance to beat Toney at heavyweight than pretty much anybody else, barrring Vitali Klistchko.
