View Full Version : Aussie Forum Tipping Comp
Philfy 11-19-2009, 04:57 AM Anybody interested in an Aussie Lounge end-of-year tipping comp? We've got a few interesting bouts coming up to close out 2009. Including:
21st Nov Kessler v Ward
2nd Dec Green v RJJ
5th Dec Khan v salita and PWill v Martinez
12th Dec Diaz v Malignaggi 2 and Darchinyan v Rojas
It could be a bit of fun...
Dan... 11-19-2009, 05:43 PM I'm in for anything that might inject a bit of life into the Aussie Forum.
On that note, mg and brently really need to step up their game.
Also, we need to coax ult/lakers19/st lion/ winky jab5 back in here. Its always more fun with him hanging around posting trash.
Philfy 11-20-2009, 07:52 PM Cool, we've got a few so far and hopefully (hint hint) some more will join in too. We'll give it a go till the end of the year and if it's a success we can continue in 2010.
Ok, we need to make up some rules...
Obviously predictions must be in before fight starts.
Shall we work on a points system?
Correctly predicting the winning fighter = 3 points
Correctly predicting method of victory = 2 points (KO =TKO)
E.g Round One Kessler v Ward
I predict Kessler via decision.

Kessler vs Ward I got Kessler UD
Green vs RJJ I got RJJ by TKO
Khan vs Salita I got Khan UD
Pwill vs Martinez I got Pwill by UD
Diaz-Malignaggi 2 Malignaggi UD
Darchinyan vs Rojas I got Vic by TKO
boxing_great 11-20-2009, 10:24 PM Kessler UD
ROY decision
Khan KO
Paul williams UD
Malignaggi UD
Darchinyan stoppage
Philfy 11-22-2009, 12:19 AM Well, we all failed dismally in the first round. Ward won (Stoppage due to cuts caused by headbutt). So technically it's a win by decision.
Dan... 11-22-2009, 06:24 PM Obviously I missed the first one but I would have gone for Kessler by decision anyways.
My picks for the remainder of the fights:
Roy Jones UD Danny Green
Amir Khan UD Dmitri Salita
Paul Williams UD Sergio Martinez
Juan Diaz UD Pauli Malignaggi
Darchinyan TKO Rojas
Philfy 11-22-2009, 08:57 PM Right, here's a revised list of fights that will be taking place by years end starting this weekend. I've added a few more just to try and get some variation so we don't all end up picking the same.

Picking winning fighter's method of victory = 2 points
Picking round of KO/TKO = 5 bonus points

Good Luck.
Dan... 11-22-2009, 09:08 PM Nice work Philfy, I'll put my extended tips up later.
Also, what a blinder ****eau had on the weekend!! Union is a disgrace.
boxing_great 11-22-2009, 09:43 PM Mikkel kessler isn't as good as I thought he was.Now the loss to Calzaghe seems to finally make sense. He is 1 dimensional, and doesn't know how to fight on the inside,
he had a lot of trouble with ward's speed, and doesn't know how to counter punch.
I think Froch will too much for him now.

I dunno, I think Froch's style is pretty good for Kessler. Froch is nothing whatsoever like Andre Ward or Joe Calzaghe.
I still think Kess can beat Froch quite handily.

A dark day indeed for Australian rugby. The present Wallabies are a poor excuse for a national team. Still, I'm a rugby fan through and through, I won't be jumping ship just yet...unless we lose to Wales.

I thought Wales were better than the Scots?
There is just no comparison. How you can watch League and see guys like Thurston, Lockyer, Inglis, Hayne, Folau, Hodges and going back guys like Gasnier and Johns and then watch a relatively similar game and see guys like Cross, Berrick Barnes and ****eau playing at the top level and not laugh at the later is beyond me tbh.

Different strokes for different folks.
Wales are better than Scotland. If the current Wallabies team had any pride they'd be able to step up and at least salvage something. Losing to Wales will signify just how complacent they have become. Back to back losses against those teams is unacceptable. Not to mention how they dropped their nuts against Ireland the week before.
I agree the current crop of Wallabies isn't the best we've had. It's a young team and we've really suffered from the lack of experience. Giteau is a great player, although I don't know how many times I've said it; we haven't had a decent kicker since Matt Burke.

Wasn't Flatley a pretty decent kicker?
Philfy 11-22-2009, 10:44 PM Wasn't Flatley a pretty decent kicker?
Yeah, but 2003 was the only year he consistently played (and kicked) for the national team. It was all Burke up until then.
The 90's were undoubtably the glory days for Australian Rugby.

boxing_great 11-23-2009, 01:41 AM can someone teach me the rules of union??

How can they kick the ball straight up in the air when they are up in their own half??it doesn't make sense from a league point of view.

Philfy 11-23-2009, 02:25 AM Ok, my picks for this weekends fights.
I got Funeka SD Guzman
and Bute UD Andrade
Dan... 11-23-2009, 02:29 AM My tips for this weekend:
Guzman UD Funeka
Bute UD Andrade, as much as I will be pulling for Andrade.
RightCross94 11-23-2009, 07:26 AM My tips for this weekend:
Guzman UD Funeka
Bute UD Andrade, as much as I will be pulling for Andrade.
I haven't seen much of Guzman or Funeka actually. But I hear Funeka is tough and keeps working and coming so he may come on late but I know Guzman is slick and is a good boxer, so I suppose he will win.
Bute should UD Andrade...Should. Thing is I doubt he gets caught late again, he will be too cautious for that this time round. But will his caution lower his punch output too much and give Andrade some close rounds?
Probably not, there is a big skills disparity here, so yeah Bute UD sounds good, but I'd love to see Andrade knock him out.

GUZMAN ud
Bute UD.
I just thought about the fight now that you mentioned it.
I can imagine Bute working hard , really hard on his fitness. That will probably be one of the things he needs to work on, after getting gassed out and getting clocked in the last second.
after all, he did dominate the fight the first time as far as my memory serves me.
Before kessler , ward I would have gone with kessler beating froch.
Now I'm thinking Froch can possibly stop Kessler.

don't know too much about either but going to go with the ko kings to pull off an upset.
Philfy 11-29-2009, 04:29 AM OK guys, the first weekends results are in. Lucien Bute has knocked out Andrade in the 4th round. We all picked Bute to win, but nobody thought it would be by KO.
Ali Funeka gave Guzman an ass-whipping yet was robbed blind by the judges. This fight was scored a draw.
So the points ladder currently stands:
Philfy 3*
Clegg 3
Dan 3
Cace 3
RightCross 3
Boxing-great 3
Buster007 0

It was a fix - no doubt in my mind.
I cannot see how 2 judges can be so incompetent. It was reprehensible. This was no 7/11 stick-up. It was total highway robbery.

Hopkins TKO (do we need to pick a round?) If so, round 6

Not sure, he is Librado Andrade's brother though, so the potential for a good set of whiskers is there.
Won't help you against a body shot though...
rjj-ud i think he could knock him out but wont risk it in the final rounds knowing the fight with hopkins is set

LOL at the triangle theories.
Those loses do sum him up though. Hopkins is just in another class, it should be easy work.
