???

I'm looking into buying a PS3 off eBay and I'm wondering which is better overall? The PS3 80GB or the PS3 Slim? This will be my first PS3.

Serious answers please. And no people saying 'Buy a 360' either.

I'd go for the 60gb version that plays PS2 games.

I got a PS2 so I don't really need a PS3 that can play PS2 games.

First off, I wanna ask..

Does the PS3 80GB come with 4 usbs, flash ports and PS2 compatibility ? because if so that is by far the most amazing PS3 made, it's the $599 2006 Launch model, I still have mine and my friend who bought the 250GB PS3 Slim already wants to trade, ofcourse I couldn't do it. But from my point of view man, there is no comparison.. The slim ps3 looks like the seat of a computer chair. It's an absolute last resort if my PS3 ever dies.

Get the original model, it's far more sexy.

I do agree that the old PS3 looks better. But the looks don't really bother me.

it does depend on which 80 gig it is, they had a loaded version and a scaled down version...

loaded version? i'd get it

scaled down? i'd go with the slim

yeah, thats the slim... and 250 gig at that... good buy

plus buying a new one means you have up to one year for your warranty in case anything happens...

if i were buying new (i have two ps3s so im not in the market lol) i'd be buying a slim... the 120 or 250 gigs comes in handy....

i have a 320gig HDD in my one but still....

I might make a bid when theres a day left.

i know you're in australia, so im not sure if it will apply... BUT sony was having a promotion, where if you signed up for a sonystyle visa and bought the ps3 with it you get $150 rebate...

this is what i did for my second ps3, and as soon as i bought it i paid the account and closed the card....

if you have that option "down under" i'd def do it!

60GB Version is the best.. Then just get a 500GB Hard Drive and switch them out.

Go for the model with Backwards compatibility (not the slim)

I know the original PS3 is large, but it looks cool and for me the slim feels kind of "breakable" like i dont trust its build quality.

Also the ability to play ps2 games is a cool bonus

i think BWC is the most over rated feature in a console... i have a launch day 60 gig and NEVER ONCE had the desire to put a ps2 game in it...

for me, im gaming in the new gen... ps2 has some CLASSICS, but their time has come and gone... im on to new games

Yes, but some people (including me) still like those classics.

I played through Final Fantasy 10 last week and it was the most enjoyable game i have played in perhaps 2 years.

Cost me $5

Who wants to play a PS2 game on a PS3 and fry the laser life?

BC is really useless. I have a PS2 and its eating dust.. I have my PSP for the PS1 classics though, but I barley touch it.

Go for the 80GB... I have the 40GB and its running GREAT! Its 2 years and 5 months old to be exact. Pretty good system.

Any particular reason why I should get the 80GB over the Slim?

Also I see that the Slim doesn't have a cooling fan.

Uncharted is really good Tomb Raider type of game in the sense of puzzle solving but the action/shooting/fighting aspect is better. Metal Gear is awesome. But to be honest if you rent each of those games it would be best since they don't have a ton of replayability.

Fallout is awesome and has tons of gaming hours and replayability so does Oblivion. Assassins Creed is really good but probably falls into the rent do to replayability.

FN4 is a definite must buy though and is ton's of fun with friends.

yeah, definitely wait for the full game...

i got GT5p on the day it was released and while, its a great game, its not worth the money especially this close to the FULL BLOWN GAME, which will rock!

Yeah, just wait for the full GT5. Now you can customize all the cars, plus they will show damage. I can't remember if Sony said each GT5 car was either 400,000 or 450,000 polygons each. Which is ****ing unreal. Now that you have a PS3, prepare for some unremarkable games that fill up 50GB blu-ray discs. Unlike your 360 which are all made on 9gb dvds. Not to diss or anything, just expect to see an OBVIOUS difference in 2010.

God of War III = Uber Pwnage.

i wouldnt worry about it TBH...

like i said before i have 2 ps3s, a launch day fully loaded 60 gig and also one of the "dumbed down" 80 gig models, and just out of randomness, the "dumbed down" one is the one i use much more often.... it doesnt have the card readers of the original, but transfer all my data to it wirelessly from my mac anyway...

i wouldnt hesitate to buy the slim if i wanted a third one

Damn it. Yesterday the guy I bought the PS3 off of in eBay said that PayPal has decided to close his PayPal account because it looks 'suspicious' and he will refund the money.

What bad luck. Now I gotta buy another PS3 and hope a similar problem doesn't occur.

i dont stand mine up... i like the look of it vertically, but i've read online that you're more likely to have issues with the disc reading over the life of the console if you keep it vertically

not sure how factual it is, but i wasnt going to risk it...

i was never big on F.E.A.R 1 so i didnt give the sequel a try...

i have i think virtua tennis three or whichever was the first one out for the ps3, and its a lot of fun

i hear top spin is good too...

scope the PSN store and see if there's a demo for either before purchase!

theres a LOT of demos available

The PS3 Slim does have a fan, but when I put it horizontal on the table after a hour the bit of table underneath the PS3 gets quite hot and I'm just worried that in the long run it might do some damage to the parts inside from the heat.

IMO

any dvd, game, or audio system put vertically shortens the life of it and puts it more in risk of getting broken or damaged.

I broke 1 xbox360 by just putting it vertical..:nonono:

Simple, for you to give extra money to Sony by paying them to fix it or buying a new one!

use it horizontally man, believe me its better.

Can you imagine yourself doing exercises sideways continually?

the only thing that I can think of that survives that long by being put vertically is a book....
