View Full Version : The Riddick Bowe vs. Billy Zumbrun thread neils7147933 04-07-2005, 08:54 PM anybody still watching Fox? or did that first fight make you throw a brick at the TV screen and now you can't see it? RwK 04-07-2005, 08:55 PM Im watching it right now. Thankfully, I missed the Ward fight. neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:02 PM Riddick Bowe is in top shape. lol SuckaPunch 04-07-2005, 09:04 PM F*ck Cablevision, now I don't have FSNY and MSG. I can't watch the Bowe fight and I can't watch my beloved NY Mets. =( RwK 04-07-2005, 09:05 PM Referee Pat Russell spent to much time at the beach, or in a "Tanning Booth". Billy "The Kid" Zumbram. LOL. Riddick "Sweet Sweet Sweet Sweet Sweet Sweet Sweet" Bowe. WTF. Round 1 comes to a close. Bowe was the aggressor, looking thoroughly unimpressive and slow. Bowe won nonetheless. Round 2 comes to a close. Zumbram nailed bowe with a couple of good shots, and Bowe did a "Mockery" of being hurt. Bowe showing zero lateral movement and continues to look monolithic. Zumbram won this round. Round 3 comes to a close. Bowe is getting tagged by Zumbram, who is using lateral movement. Zumbram won the round. Round 4 comes to a close. Bowe dropped Zumbram with a left hook to the body. Bowe won the round. Round 5 comes to a close. Zumbram backed Bowe up against the ropes twice......tagging him. 10-8 round for Zumbram. Ref almost stopped it. Round 6 comes to a close. Zumbram landed good shots, and so did bowe. Argument can be made for an even round. Round 7 comes to a close. Zumbram staggered Bowe twice, yet Bowe was landing the jab. Zumbram won the round IMO. Round 8 comes to a close. Zumbram had points deducted for a "shoulder tackle". Bowe once again using the jab. Zumbram landed good shots, yet lost the round to Bowe. Round 9 comes to a close. Bowe peppering Zumbram with the jab all round long, Zumbram lands in short stints. Bowe won the round IMO. Good jab actually. Wierd. Final round comes to a close. Zumbram tagging bowe once again, yet Bowe fires the jab back. Looping right hands over the top by Zumbram. Round goes to Zumbram. I think Bowe won the fight. Mainly because of the rough house tactics Zumbram displayed. Split decision: Score totals: 95-93 Zumbram 96-92 Bowe 96-92 Bowe as I suspected. neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:14 PM I scored the first round even; the second round to Zumbrun neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:18 PM 29-27 ZUMBRUN through 3... neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:24 PM I thought Zumbrun was winning the round til he got caught with the body shot. That round was hard to score. Bowe ate another good one right before the bell, but Zumbrun seems content taking lefts to his head for some reason... Konstantin 04-07-2005, 09:35 PM Its sorta a wierd fight both of them get rocked by shots sometimes but bowe is doing the more laying against the ropes youch a point for shouldering. Konstantin 04-07-2005, 09:49 PM I didnt see the entire fight but I saw enough to know Bowe may have won at least 2 rounds 10-8... and in a 10 round fight thats pretty bad. And then there was round 8 or 9 where zumb just was a bag that bowe jabbed Konstantin 04-07-2005, 09:50 PM split decision Konstantin 04-07-2005, 09:51 PM lol everyone booed bowe but he won neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:51 PM SPLIT DECISION 95-93 Zumbrun 96-92 Bowe 96-92 Bowe Great - now we have to watch this guy fight again on BDSSP RwK 04-07-2005, 09:51 PM I had it 96-94 final for Bowe. BrooklynBomber 04-07-2005, 09:55 PM The crowd is chanting BULL****! BULL****! Come on guys, this is basic cable - it'll be bleeped on the replay Decision was bull****, cant really argue that. By the way, how how the Ward fight went? Slipx 04-07-2005, 09:56 PM all Bowe did was work the jab, he doesn't even have what it takes to land a one-two anymore on a guy that isn't even an elite fighter zumbrun did okay, at least now he has something to be proud of at his bad kid camp or whatever the **** he does for a living...I'm sure all the bad kids that went to his camp watched the fight, and realize how it was an upset, Zumbrun should've won that decision, I think Bowe landed more punches, but the jabs Bowe landed weren't shotgun, tapia jabs, they were soft, soft, soft jabs, and the only stiffness was felt if Zumb was coming in and took one, and he only did that like three times. he didn't even have enough coordination to land that followup right hand I judge fights on who I think lost the most brain cells in the bout. and clearly, bowe took the larger amount of flush power shots, and was the only one in the bout who was really dazed, at the end of the fifth on the ropes bowe was dazed the body shot that zumb took a knee on and that point deduction did it, I suppose ps- the punch Bowe threw to the body was perfect, and the reason Zumb took a knee was because he had just thrown his own power shot and exhaled with the punch, and Bowe hit him right after that, as he was inhaling. ever been hit in the stomach while you are inhaling? it's not fun, it's the kinda pain that makes normal people think '**** this i quit' neils7147933 04-07-2005, 09:57 PM Toney: Bowe needs to go baCk to the institution Salley: Riddick Bowe lost this fight WARD fought a guy who wanted to wrestle, hit on breaks, taunt, but not much else. Thanks for the info, neils Truth 04-07-2005, 10:29 PM From what I heard Bowe almost got knocked out by Zumbrun, Bowe is finished. cupcrazy01 04-07-2005, 10:38 PM Did anyone else think this fight was going to be stopped when Zumbrun was teeing off on Bowe in the corner? Bowe must have taken 4-5 clean shots, but not only did the ref not stop the fight, he didn't make a knockdown ruling on the ropes keeping Bowe up (which I think for sure they were)...the difference in the fight. However, the counterpoint to that argument is that thanks to the ref not stopping the fight, Bowe regrouped and managed to jab his was to winning a few late rounds. That proved in a way that it was the right decision not to stop the fight. However, if Bowe was hitting Zumbrun like that, there is NO WAY the ref doesn't stop the fight... I agree the ref would have stopped it if Zumbrun was the one getting beaten up. Bowe is the star so unless his eye ball was completley hanging out of his head the wern't stopping it. :D neils7147933 04-07-2005, 10:47 PM LOL - I just pulled up Billy Zumbrun's record and he has a win over Butterbean! Stickman 04-07-2005, 11:29 PM Bowe must have taken 4-5 clean shots, but not only did the ref not stop the fight, he didn't make a knockdown ruling on the ropes keeping Bowe up (which I think for sure they were)...the difference in the fight. Usually, when a ref rules a fighter knockdown that was prevented by the ropes, it's somewhat more dramatic, with the fighter stumbling backwards into the ropes after catching several big shots, and the ropes keeping him upright. With Bowe, he was just leaning into the ropes and using them to help his movement. Lots of fighters do that, but I can't remember the last time I saw a KD rules because of it. Bowe was definitely stunned, but if he hadn't been leaning back against the ropes, he'd have been grabbing on...he was stunned, but not out enough to go down. outofit 04-08-2005, 12:07 AM that guy that wasn't bowe is the guy that won the fight. sucks to be "that guy." bowe was staggered a lot. all of bowe's rounds were tallied up because of jabs. Since when is a jab worth more than staggering hooks and uppercuts. Damn "that guy" was backing up old 280lb megaton. And is it me or did it seem like the ref would break them up everytime zguy would establish his range? It seemed like bowe was taking big steps backwards or the ref was stepping in. jedihillis 04-08-2005, 02:03 AM I didn't realize Bowe had such an illustrius record. Only one loss? that's pretty good considering he dropped of the face of the boxing world. guru 04-08-2005, 08:42 AM like i've been saying for months, BOWE'S COMEBACK IS DOOMED!! just like buster douglas's comeback, the first "real" fighter he faces, bowe's going out on his face.... he's done, finished... stop talking about him... Does anybody give a crap who won that fight? I think Buster Douglas can come back and take out Bowe. Stickman 04-08-2005, 08:54 AM I didn't realize Bowe had such an illustrius record. Only one loss? that's pretty good considering he dropped of the face of the boxing world. Bowe was one helluva fighter. Lots of power, big guy, great skill. He's never been quite straight in the head, though. Had he been, I think he'd have ended his career as an all time great. And even now, I can see the talent hiding inside him. I hope he gets back in good shape and fights a few more times, maybe even for the title against Klitchko before he calls it quits. If he'd been in good shape last night, he'd most likely have floored his opponent in the first round. He was just too heavy and too slow from lack of training and working. His right hand used to be really quick getting in, but last night you could've taken a coffee break while it made it's trip. And he always had great power in both hands when he wanted it. Anyway, if he doesn't get back in shape, I don't want to see him fight. I don't like to watch round fellows fight. I could drive to my wife's trashy family's dump heap and watch them squabble if I were interested in that. When I watch a fight, I like my fighters to be in better shape than me, or at least not worse. Foreman 04-08-2005, 11:36 AM Bowe is finished. 9 years ago when he was in fair shape he totally lost it. Golota is not an all time great by any stretch of the imagination and he totally and completely destroyed bowe. No way he get can it going again. And what the hell is with zumbum. Going into the 10th he had to know it was a close fight. So here is a guy who's boxing career will never amount to a cup's worth of warm piss fighting a former champion and he can't fight any harder than that? Go for broke and get a famous name on your record at least. And in the screwed up world of boxing you may even get a decent payday for your next fight. Granted he had his moments and had bowe rocked, but come on. He had his one shot and pissed it away. Oh, by the way billy, I'll take fries with that. :D neils7147933 04-08-2005, 09:23 PM Which satellite service do you use? Only one loss? that's pretty good considering he dropped of the face of the boxing world. He would have had three, if Golota hadn't started hitting him low in both of their fights, Bowe was losing them both, and Golota saved him by losing his head and cheating. The Troll 04-09-2005, 02:25 AM Bowe had a short prime, he won the tile in 1992 and was retired from boxing by Andrew Golota in 1996. That fight with Golota ruined him and even Bowe admitted in the post fight interview. Larry Merchant "so the punishment you took in this fight is going to cause you to consider retirement from boxing" Riddick Bowe "Yes, this is true. Lou Duva said Bowe shoud have an MRI on his brain in the post fight interview as well after the 2nd Golota fight. The guy clearly has brain damage. He took so many clean, extremely strong punches in that fight, Lou Duva and and Jim Lampley were horrified. masterdirector 04-09-2005, 03:11 AM Which satellite service do you use?
