Tszyu issues stark Hatton warning
IBF light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu has warned June rival Ricky Hatton that he has never trained harder for a title defence.
"This fight has motivated me to train harder than I ever have before," said the Russia-born Australian, 35.
"Hatton is a very good fighter. He wants something that has belonged to me for years, but I have the hunger, too.
"He will give me a tremendous physical challenge, but I'll be ready. I'll have to be smart because Hatton is strong."
British boxer Hatton is looking to win the 4 June bout on the inside.
"As strong as Tszyu is, he is not an exceptional in-fighter," said the 27-year-old.
"So, if I move in quick and throw punches, I will have some success.
I will deliver volumes of combinations to the head and body, and he will not be able to push me around.
"My danger zone is going to be where Tszyu is in the range to explode one of his big right hands.
"I have a lot of respect for his right and I do not want to see how strong it is."

Its a fight i'm really looking forward too, there my two favourite fighters and it will be strange not wanting both to win.
If Tszyu is still 3/4 the fighter he was against Chavez, Gonzales, Ruelas...Hatton is in trouble.
I've been watching Tszyu's fights against right handers - I don't see how Hatton thinks Tszyu can't fight on the inside. He seems to go where he wants, when he wants.
Johhny Lewis was interviewed last Sunday, and sounded very confident but very respectful. He said that Tszyu can fight going forward, backwards, can box, can slug.. The feeling is that Hatton will think he's in a new sport when he won't be able to fight his own fight.
Slipx 04-07-2005, 10:01 PM it will be an early stoppage..you don't go fight a guy like tszyu when you had floaters on in the wading pull your entire career,
trust me, take 5000.00 out of the bank, bet on tszyu, and thank me later.
Knicksman20 04-07-2005, 10:29 PM Tszyu is a technician in the ring. He's gonna put a beating on Hatton. It seems Hatton has to find a way to make himself believe he has a chance of winning when his chances are very slim.
hitman7hearns7 04-08-2005, 09:48 AM hatton is quite a good technition(cant spell) him self just that hes an gressive one
i think i lot of people will be suprised
my not saying he will win cos zoo is just every thing you want in a figher
but all u pple sayin its gonna be first round ko or 3 round stoppage or whateva really wanna watch sum hatton fights
also its hard to stop a pessure figher like him in the first round
blimey you lot honest, zoo is an excellent fighter but do you honestly think mitchell was a test for him i dont.
if hattons lack of top notch oppoenents is a disadvantage then so is nigh on 2.5 years with only 3 rounds under your belt.
hatton ud. :boxing:

Ok, i'll bet you 5mil that Tszyu beats Hatton.

Your'll have to wait until Calzaghe beats Lacy for that :D

....Hey slip, that foreman stuff in your sig is great. The arm punch to Cooney shows just how powerful foreman was when standing flat footed and it also shows how pathetic Cooney became after his loss to Holmes. When did Atlas shove Foreman and what happened after the shove? Somehow I don't remember that.

Thank yoiu later??
For what , pointing out that the heavy favourite will most likely win :) :)
Moonra69 04-11-2005, 05:43 AM Tszyu should be victorious all his experience and power should be decisive. Nonetheless, Hatton is good and likeable, plus the underdog, I've always like the underdog. We will see soon.

I agree man... I think The Mitchell fight flattered Tszyu. Mitchell was starting to look like a shot fighter about a year before when he got a little bit of a gift decsion against Lovemore Ndou.
I think the best way to judge the competion Tszyu's gonna face is to take a look at Mitchell fighting Stewert, and then Hatton fighting Stewert about 6 months later.
People say that Stewert was just a Mitchell left over?... But it's not like Mitchell REALLY REALLY punished Stewert.
If you go to http://www.frankwarren.tv and go down to FWTV section, there are a load of fight vids. Click on the Hatton -v- Stewert fight, (It's free at the moment!)
guess we will find out on the 4th mate :boxing:

well i hope hatton shows the "genuine fans" what the sports all about,
he can win though hes in against the best in the division.
in no way will hatton-tsyzu be the mismatch that mitchell-tsyzu II was
still ill follow the current trend, tsyzu ko in 10 :D
I THINK HATTON HAS HAD SOME STICK A LITTLE UNFAIRLY.
he always wanted to test himself, he just wasnt delivered the fights for various reasons (Pinto dropping out and steward pulling harris.)

well hes got the biggest fight out there.
now is his time to shine, take kostyas titles, whup all other
contenders then defend against tsyzu in another packed out men arena
or tsyzu may just crush him like a fly
think zoo will move up if he loses.
cotto or gatti would be the next megafight i reckon.
assuming they all prevail which is doubtful.
leroy brown 04-11-2005, 09:39 AM no disrespect to hatton, as he is a good fighter, but i dont think he has enough to take kostya`s title. if he is serious about his plan to move forward and crowd and throw alot of punches then i think he will get knocked out early, if all he see`s in kostya is a straight right hand then he better not show up.. :p .i like the way kostya can really take anyone out at any time, especially if fouled..ala bergman headbutt after takin a boxing lesson for about 8 rnds..ko`d straight after, nearly killed him, ala chaves boxing lesson for 6 rnds, then the last low blow..resumed to a instant devestating left/right knock down, ala hurtado after being down,etc..roughhousin kostya pisses him off, and a mad kostya is devestating..il back tszyu in 5.
Martin (Top Knowledge) 04-11-2005, 10:03 AM Vince Phillips raised the pace from about round 6 onwards... Kostya didn't like it at all!
Ricky Hatton will set a faster pace from Round 1.
A lot of people are asking, "How will Ricky Hatton deal with, and cope with Kostya Tszyu's POWER?", I reckon a more interesting question is, "How will Kostya Tszyu deal with the pace that Ricky set's?".
BrooklynBomber 04-11-2005, 10:50 AM Wow, brits the phillips fight is your only hope that Hatton has a chance. Well dont count on it much. In order for it to work you will have to sue Kostya for couple if million dollars. dont let him go to gym and make him eat fat food.

he never raised the pace, he just ate all of kostya's power shots waited when Kostya got tired and beat him. And i dont think that Hatton can withstand 10 rounds of that kind of punishment. hey, i dont think he can do even 3.

You should watch the fight again. Kostya Tszyu got tired BECAUSE Vince Phillips upped the pace, but it wasn't just that. Kostya Tszyu got knocked out because for the previous 4 rounds he'd take some heavy heavy shots. He got caught with a MASSIVE right just before the KO, which buckled his legs proper.
I wasn't emplying, (If Vince can do it, then Ricky can do it!), What I was suggesting, is that Kostya Tszyu doesn't like fighting at a high pace... And there's never been any fighter before that's been able to stop Ricky setting such a high pace.
Ricky is a BIG light-welterweight. He'll surprise a lot of you Yanks.
ryankivell 04-11-2005, 11:34 AM There's not too many guys that can hang with a veteran with the skills that Tszyu has. Ricky Hatton is really the only guy outside of maybe Morales or Mayweather that would have a chance at beating Tszyu.

It's pointless referring to the Phillips fight. That was 8 years ago. Tszyu was anemic, had trouble making the weight, & was by all accounts, not anywhere near as fit as he gets these days. Johnny Lewis (Tszyu's trainer) was going to walk if Tszyu won that fight, he was so pissed off with Tszyu's preparation.
You say Tszyu doesn't like to fight at a high pace. I don't know what you are basing this on. If you think Tszyu doesn't like to fight at a high pace, have a look at the Ruelas fight. Look at the MAGO fight. Tszyu fights at his pace, and nobody has been able to throw him off in 8 years.
You're basing Hatton's pace-setting on his fights against C-Grade fighters. I will leave a well & truly beaten up Ben Tackie out of the argument.....
How do you think Tszyu would go against the following guys:
Ray Oliviera - I can't even remember when his prime was.
Eamonn McGee
Stephen Smith
Joe Hutchinson
A nearly 40 year old Vince Phillips?
Carlos Vilches
Micheal Stewart
Come to think of it, most of these guys never even HAD primes. Are these the guys who Hatton's 'pace' wore down??
leroy brown 04-11-2005, 11:25 PM the phillips vs tszyu fight was a great hard fight, kostya fought vinces fjght, middle of the ring slugfest, i dont remember kostya takin one backward step in that fight, that cost him the fight, he was loving the battle, 1st time he really got pushed, and he walked into a great punch..great fight that was, kostya would beat him every time after that fight, and it taught him bigtime to fight his fight..watch that fight, between every round kostya is pattin vince on the ass sayin good fight between rounds. he loves to fight and he loves a hard challenge, he just didnt change during that fight and paid the price..that came from being young, confident and undefeatted..kostya is the most skillful guy around, his ring craft is way underrated, overlooked by the right hand, but he gets himself in position to throw that right hand, because hes worked the other fella out..and i think he will beat hatton with a body shot..kostya hits the body and head harder, faster and more accurate than hatton..he should beat hatton, beat mayweather and move up, destroy judah and retire...have 1 comeback fight to stop delahoya..i think he beats all these guys, i think he beats mayweather early and by ko..
Konstantin 04-11-2005, 11:40 PM Lol entrance roar the best part?
I havent seen any hatton fights but if he does anything like Naseem did with Barrera it should be interesting
