HBO senior vice president Mark Taffet yesterday made it clear that the world’s leading boxing network “entered into an agreement with Top Rank and Bob Arum” for the pay-per-view distribution of the showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales last March 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and that HBO “took no risks, gave no PPV guarantees to the promoters and the promoters took all the risks.” At the same time Taffet said “our contract was with Top Rank and Bob Arum, not with Murad Muhammad” and that he had “no idea of any share for Manny Pacquiao.” He said “promoters make deals with one another” and HBO didn’t know the details of such agreements.

Manila Standard Today tried to contact Arum at his HBO office in Las Vegas about the raging controversy over the share allegedly due Pacquiao from PPV income but Arum was not in his office. A message was left on an answering machine but as of press time we had received no response.

In an overseas telephone conversation with Manila Standard Today, Taffet revealed that HBO handled the distribution of the fight coverage in the US market and took what Taffet termed “a fee for distribution services” and would “collect incomes and give it to Top Rank”.Taffet also disclosed that HBO “provided an advance to Top Rank after the fight to cover any risk of a shortfall” in pay-per-view because the promoters had committed to pay Morales and Pacquiao a fixed purse for the fight. Morales was reportedly getting $2.5 million and Pacquiao $1.75 million while Murad Muhammad revealed the advance paid to Top Rank was $2.7 million. Taffet said “if Murad tells you how much it was, its correct” because he knows.”

as a pacquiao fan, i'm being inclined to believe that there was really no agreement on a 40% share for manny... this sucks... i am a true blooded pac fan but what the... never mind... i hope people around manny would realize that they are destroying the fighter mentally, whoever is telling the truth...

No! this guy will protect Muhammad at all cost, dragging names, quoting another person qoutes to make it appear that indeed what they've done is right. He already associated himself with Murad's group by always using the word "WE" in every report and the letter he send to Pacland, so it is just right to assume that this guy is BIAS and whatever reports he submitted to this site is tainted and therefore CRAP.

pre,
Remember when he qouted Boying Nazario but the latter deny? This is the same thing and much worst.

Remember when Murad said to Ronnie "This guy can give Michael Buffer a run for his money"? Maybe that's the thing that started it all, he just fell in love with Murad and vice versa.

I dont think Ronnie would fabricate comments from Mark Taffet. By submitting the article here, I can guarantee that people in HBO will get to read this article. Whenever any problems have come up with something being misquoted, something printed that should of been off the record or otherwise, HBO and/or Showtime has made sure to contact me directly to sort the situation out. If there is something wrong with the article, HBO will without question contact me. Until such time, I don't think anyone should accuse the writer of misquoting or fabricating anything.

Taffet is a very powerful man in the business, not the kind of guy that anyone would want to misquote or associate with false statements. Taffet is not the kind of guy anyone involved in this mess would want to have as an enemy.

Wowwoooh wow . . . . Santanielzs is still at it. The guy who claims to be a Filipino . . . the guy who claims he is supporting Manny :D . . . and yet who is now moving heaven and earth to protect Murad and Nazario.

Mr. Santanielzs, by that story . . . are you trying to imply that Murad will be receiving 40% of the PPV money without him knowing it right from the begining? :D You are really desperate JACK ASS. You can go tell that to the MARINES. http://img1.yoxio.com/img/136870.gif (http://www.yoxio.com) http://img1.yoxio.com/img/136861.gif (http://www.yoxio.com)

i hope he was not misqouted... because this is not just a simple case and looking at things it's like Murad/Nazario/Nathanielz vs Manny and the rest of the team. (I dont know how Ronnie inserted himself in the other team).
btw, Sir Rick, have you read Ronnie's letter to Pacland admin?

Yes, but I can also relate to Ronnie's frustrations. If any of us had their lives/families threatened, taken hundreds of personal insults and who knows what else, we would probably react the same way and maybe even worse.

Hey Rick, I wonder if you know the other reasons why pinoys are so pissed off with Ronnie. I admit he is a good journalist but there is something more that make us pinoys irritated by him. I know he must protect his interest in order to survive but he starts all these by playing the role of murad media protector beyond board. He starts calling pac names and all hell break loose. You don't have to answer.

I know there is a lot of heat and it seems to be getting worse by the day. Everyone pointed the finger at the other after the Pacquiao loss, but this is nothing new in Boxing. We have seen this very same thing happen with hundreds of other fighters after a loss, everyone from De La Hoya, Holyfield, Wladimir Klitschko, Mosley and many others have had the internal wars following a high profile loss.

One Question Rick ...

do you think their is a chance for PAC to get a share from the PPV, even without any signed document, PAC is only banking on the ALI ACT that protect fighters?
