View Full Version : Félix Trinidad can't deal with a jab..
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 04:29 PM It's official.. A good jab gives "Tito" Trinidad trouble. I'm not saying the jab is going to be the only thing "Winky" Wright will have to use to beat Tito, but I think his superior jab is going to cause Trinidad some fits.
{BrownBomber} 04-06-2005, 04:35 PM Winky needs more than a jab to beat Trini. He will have to fight like Hopkins did and Winky is not that kind of fighter. It doesnt matter how good your defense is,if u stand in front of Tito u will get hurt.
Sure Cant. He is a 1 dimmensional fighter, who had worlds of trouble with DLH's jab (one of the best in the sport). Combine the useage of this weapon with lateral movement, and you have the recipe to beat him. When he plods, he throws Jab + right hand or Jab + hook, then right hand. Step to his left, and land the jab flush on his strange shaped cranium. Although Joppy's jab is one of the best in the sport, he blew his chances by standing and trading with the slugger. Mayo made the same mistake; although he is by no means athletic or versatile with any of his punches, and it was no ****ing suprise he got blown out of the water: He is more 1 dimmensional than Tito is. The recipe to beat him:
Ronald "Winky" Wright. And I am so going to win points on this fight. Damn it.
Bozo_no no 04-06-2005, 04:42 PM Looking it at from a far, I don't think just jabbing is going to seal the deal for Winky. Unlike Oscar who jabbed and moved, Winky Jabs but stands right in front of you moving his upper body to get him out of the way of shots. This will leave him in a dangerous spot to get hit by the Tito train.
If Wright's going to pull this off, there's going to have to be much more to it than a good jab.

great post. i totally agree. but please get rid of that jay nady avatar. that guy is a pretty krappy ref.
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 05:14 PM I mean Winky has excellent defense. I know standing in front of Trinidad will get you put on the canvas quick, but will Winky's great defense be a factor if he stands in front of Trinidad like he does with alot of his opponents?

It will be factor till he gets caught slippin. Im sure winky can take titos punch but he has to be carefull in not taking 2 or punches at one time. if he can do that then it will a close dc going either way.

It`ll protect him from head shots but leave his body exposed. Tito isn`t a guy who favors a body attack but he might in this fight. The left lead of Wright may be the biggest factor. it is the best counter for the left hook and if Wright times it right, although it may not hurt Tito, it may discourage him loading up with the left!
It comes down to Wright at the end of the day. If he can take what he is hit with and defend against most, he has a great chance of winning on points. I think Trinidad is taking a risk of fighting this quality of opponent after a long lay off but if Tito does win it makes him look very good!
If deciding a winner i would have to go with the fighter who wants it more, this i believe is Wright. Tito was hammered by Hopkins and retired, Wright was hammered by Vasquez then got better, that is the difference i believe!
mic573 04-06-2005, 05:24 PM It's not the jab that really bothers Tito it is movement that gives him the most trouble. A fighter must have both and more to beat Tito the way Hopkins did and the way Delahoya could of if he had anything more than a jab instead of those flurries that seem to miss all the time. A jab alone can't beat him and movement alone can't beat him.
People need to realize it takes alot to really beat a fighter like Tito. It seems easy jab and move and then repeat but it takes a more versatile gameplan as Hopkins showed us. Winky says he's going to stuff the jab and counter Tito but he will find out that when he counters he opens himself up as well for Tito's counter shots. Tito has a great jab also and a great straight right that follows it. Not to mention the bodypunches and the always dangerous lefthook. The fight will seem competitive in the beginning but by the end Tito will punish Winky.
Tito by unanimous decision. Winky will hold on long enough to hear the cards read against him.
Your right Tito can't get out of the way of the jab...check out his fight with William Joppy, Joppy landed the jab about 7 million times.
Now we will see if Winky's defense is better than joppy's, hell it can't be any worse. Winky may be able to sting Tito with the left behind the jab as he did to Mosley in their first fight.
I like Winky based upon his punch output and his ability to outland Tito by at least 2-1. If Winky can move than the fight is his and he knows this...we will never see a better Winky then then the one that enters the ring against Tito.

.
More like 9 or 10. And if he fought differently, different outcome IMO. He would take the lunch money directly from tito's left front pocket without him noticing.
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 05:55 PM Alright, people, let's say "Winky" Wright does beat Trinidad by UD, where does that put Trinidad in terms of the Middleweight division?

I don't think a Wright win would put Tito too far down the rankings. He could still beat alot of the middleweights including Taylor and Sturm in my opinion. Unless they show otherwise.
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 06:17 PM Tito is shot. He is completly done. He will never win a tough fight ever again. He is too old. Too slow. Too predictable. And his power is gone. Winky will probably retire Trinidad. And Bernard Hopkins will rule for all of time.

I personally think, the next time he gets in there: He might collapse. After all, I did see signs of cancer in the early stages in the Mayo fight, and I hear he is undergoing "Chemo-therapy". I am not sure, but I also heard he has contracted some serious "STD's" that might affect his career. I think Winky might knock him out, or stop him in the first round IMO. He Hits so hard, its not even funny. Has he not won every one of his fights by way of Knockout? Was he not considered the hardest puncher at one point? People might overrate his defense, because after all, he is the hardest puncher of all time. Winky is.

Ok, give me some of what you and runs with knives are smoking.
Tito might have a slight problem with the jab, but it's nothing that will keep him from plowing forward against a feather-fisted Wright. Winky will not be able to withstand Tito's right hand, which will be there all night. What's the best weapon against a southpaw? A straight right. Tito is a hard hitter with both hands and his right will set up his left. It's what he should've done against Nard.
borikua 04-06-2005, 06:39 PM Trinidad will beat Pinky and then beat the winner of Taylor-Nard(Taylor)....Trinidad has problem with a good jab...so?...who doesn't?...Can Winky deal with Tito's left hook???
jack...put ur points were ur mouth is..
AintGottaClue 04-06-2005, 06:40 PM whos that one guy at middle who has a awsome jab and can move? i forgot his name anyone help me?
whos that one guy at middle who has a awsome jab and can move? i forgot his name anyone help me?
LMFAO. dude. My goodness Sturmrules.
IwatchBoxing 04-06-2005, 06:41 PM I dont think Winky can put up a better performance against Trinidad, than Joppy did, even with a gameplan, its over mid-way through the fight, unless Winky gets to Hopkins level at Middleweight over-night. Regradless, a great match-up.
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 06:44 PM Yes he does have Cancer. I'm glad you noticed that too.
We are not smoking anything except boxing knowledge mastery PRBoxing Fan. don't argue with me, I'm a Pirate.
AintGottaClue 04-06-2005, 06:45 PM LMFAO. dude. My goodness Sturmrules.
ya that was his name the other Felix, Felix Sturm, your future middleweight champ
one thing u gyz have to remember is that winky is a southpaw, n that is a HUGE factor. trinidads major punch is his left hoook, and if wright usees that job properly it'll relally help him box, but he's going to have to move
mic573 04-06-2005, 06:54 PM Winky is a southpaw but the way he fights it really doesn't make it much of a factor. Tito's biggest weapon is the lefthook but he always uses the right to set it up.

Damn Joppy put on a performance? He got killed, this may help Winky "Dont do what Joppy did!".I know for sure Hopkins had that in mind.Back in the day I thought that if any middle weight could beat tito it would be Joppy. Boy was I wrong. When I say tiot kill Joppy I was like he is gonna kill Hopkins but as we all saw Hop had other plans.
I have a ???? fo r the PR. On the tito-hop fight tito came out with a regeaton song something about mi bandera. Who sings it? and can someone hook it up. That beat is tight as f....!
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 06:59 PM Borikua, no problem...how much do you want to bet?
{BrownBomber} 04-06-2005, 07:06 PM Borikua, no problem...how much do you want to bet?
I can see it now Jack! :D

joeboxer 04-06-2005, 07:08 PM Borikua, no problem...how much do you want to bet?
You should bet souls. No one has ever bet their sould on boxingscene before.
borikua 04-06-2005, 07:14 PM Borikua, no problem...how much do you want to bet?

joeboxer 04-06-2005, 07:15 PM 10 mills will do it...Deal?

borikua 04-06-2005, 07:31 PM *****. You'd bet your soul if you had any ballz.
My soul? WTF?
AintGottaClue 04-06-2005, 07:46 PM ill bet my soul on sturm to beat tito
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 07:48 PM ill bet my soul on sturm to beat tito
because Tito has cancer? or even before Tito had cancer?
borikua 04-06-2005, 08:00 PM ill bet my soul on sturm to beat tito
that would be like 10 points?
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 08:27 PM 10 mills will do it...Deal?
You're just like Trinidad...you deal with nothing less than 10 million. It's a deal, though.
FrankJack 04-06-2005, 08:33 PM I Wright comes into this fight true to his word, then it'll be pretty interesting. He was saying he was gonna fight this fight like he did against Vargas. If it's like that, then I don't see Winky backing up very often but instead taking the fight to Tito. Winky's got good defense, but in the last fight with Mosely, Shane was able to slip some ill hooks around Winky's guard. They didn't hurt him tell he dropped his hands but still, he can't afford to let Tito hit him the same way.
If Winky fights like he says, I think it'll really test both fighters stamina cus they're gonna be pretty busy.
Knicksman20 04-06-2005, 08:35 PM I think that Winky is a better fighter than Joppy ever was. He's a crafty southpaw with a tight defense, good counter puncher, & throws in combos. I won't be surprised if Tito gets knocked down in this fight because of the southpaw stance & not seeing a punch. I think Winky's gonna make this a difficult fight & is gonna outpoint Tito.
wtf tito has cancer, i think im late. i never heard bout htis
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 08:55 PM wtf tito has cancer, i think im late. i never heard bout htis
Ya riz. Get on the ball. That news is getting old.
Damn Joppy put on a performance? He got killed, this may help Winky "Dont do what Joppy did!".....!
LOL. Exactly. If you want to win against Tito, do the exact opposite. Joppy fought like a moron, digweed, and wTF taco. My goodness, he got obliterated, and it pissed me off.
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 09:10 PM Hey Run, wanna buy some pants?
Hey Run, wanna buy some pants?
Ok. I wear: Waist--62 Length---20
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 09:15 PM ya, these are like waist 40 but the waist gets bigger in the wash so just pay-pal me like 15 bucks and they are yours.
the waist gets bigger in the wash .
No thanks.
joeboxer 04-06-2005, 09:17 PM No thanks.
come on.... tell you what 10 bucks
come on.... tell you what 10 bucks
No thanks.
AintGottaClue 04-06-2005, 09:39 PM Winky beats tito then fights sturm :)
outofit 04-06-2005, 10:30 PM a jab as a key factor against a guy that lands at a very high percentage of accuracy, i don't know about all that. Also wright is very much more on the defensive than trinidad, and trinidad is a very good example of a good offense is the best defense. Do you all think that wright can outjab trinidad? I don't.
adeelr 04-06-2005, 10:43 PM Tito's jab is not all that bad either, his is stronger, lands like a power punch, and winky dont got enuff to take those brutal rights and nonstop aggression for Tito

Not sure....but you know what is funny.
Wright had that infection on his neck....and was the one at a disadvantage. LOL! I love it.
The Pretender 05-15-2005, 12:35 AM Tito the most god awful fighter I seen in my life. I think anyone from Contender could beat his ass. Now I don't give Oscar's win any respect!
Brz_Pugilist 05-15-2005, 12:37 AM I was rooting for Tito and now eating my crow, but for him to look that bad, its ridiculous. He looked like an amateur, just awful! His father was a joke as well.
Winky went up in weight for this fight.
Winky was the underdog for most (not for me).
People should separate fanatism with reality, one thing is that you like to see Tito, other thing is say he win against everybody (he lost to three boxers, officially to two).
Tito says he may go to suppermiddleweight or even lightheavyweight. He's a dreamer, in this picture on the URL you see that he has some fat at the waist, not like Winky.
Imagine him at 168, with power punchers like Lacy, all that fat won't help.
In the picture, you also see he is insecure: he is looking with that face at Winky, while Winky doesn't need all these things, just box.
