Wanna be a boxer huh? And you are new to the sport? I suggest that u should learn more about the sport before becoming a boxer so that way you will have a better chance of being succesful. Its not that easy to be a boxer. Getting hit is not fun either.

You want to be a boxer? Just make sure you show respect to the sport itself. Don't go doing this just as a fun hobby or an exercise program please. Not if you're wanting to be a professional, or good amateur. Show the sport more respect than that. Or else I hope you get knocked out in your gym debut.

Otherwise, best of luck. Where do you live? There might be gyms you don't know about in your area. I needed a gym to shoot a student film and thought I'd have to just use a local pro wrestling ring for my film, then just do all outdoor training type junk. I lucked up and found a real boxing gym right under my nose, just down the street from my college.

If you live in a smaller town, the gym probably won't be listed in the phone book. Mine wasn't. And I'd never seen any advertising for it whatsoever. Total word of mouth. I got lucky finding mine, but really...I didn't even bother looking b/c I just assumed. It's south carolina, go figure.

He's lying...for now. The best middleweight is Hopkins. Then Trinidad, Jermain Taylor, Winky Wright, and Vargas. Then Sturm. But Sturm did better against DLH than Vargas, so there is room to argue Sturm for sure, though the States have only shown Sturm once. Sturm looks like a solid contender, nonetheless.

Actually, to train like a professional boxer for just an exercise program is a good idea. Minus the sparring, boxing is a safe exercise compared to cycling, roller blading and kayaking. :)

But boxing is a serious sport NOT to be be taken lightly. You'll lose a few brain cells, maybe a tooth, get a broken jaw, fracture your ribs and orbital bone...etc.

There's a huge trade off in boxing that fans forget. For months into training, you'll be one of the most fit athletes in the world. And in just a matter of 3 rounds, you end up on the opposite spectrum. You'll be broken, bruised and bleeding and may take several weeks to months to heal up.

Think about this serously. Only the top 3% of boxers in the world get mentioned on TV.

It's only natural for you to feel that way, going into something new. The veterans (be they ameteurs or pros) will know a newbie when they see one. They've all had the same aprehension as you. But you can't go in there looking scared. Go in there knowing that by the end of the day, you'll be better than when you first came in. In a matter of months, you'll take pride in your self for taking the time knowing how to box and be in fighting form.

Screw that being embarrassed crap. Sure people might laugh at you at first but wouldn't you feel like laughing if you saw a new guy coming in? Some will laugh because they're really laughing at themselves and how they did the same things. Others will just b/c you might look funny. If you can't handle being laughed at a little, you'd better stay out of the ring. Cause the guy across from you will have things he wants to do to you which might concern you a little more than him laughing.

I was the same as you, a kid wanting to find a gym to box at , although I was younger than you. I tried every gym in the phone book and always seemed to get laughed at when I would ask if they had boxing there.

If you are wholehearted and true about this things will have a way of working themselves out. I had no idea there was a gym until..... well thats a whole 'nother story. Anyway, boxing is not glamorous and it is in no way easy, like football. ( :)Just kidding Runsw/knives, football is not easy by any means.) You will have to work harder than you have ever worked for anything in your life if you really want it. But the rewards, not meaning monetary awards, are great and the growth in yourself that you will experience will be great. Just be carefull and use your eyes and mind when making decisions about doing this and with which people..............Rockin' :boxing:

Dear Vinzter112,

Hello youngster. Please stay away from the lounge for a while. If you are trying to learn about boxing, stick to the "non-stop boxing" section. You will learn more about the sport, and not so much about female undergarments, drugs, violence, politics, general hate, and Michael Jackson. If you do decide to venture toward that section: Please be aware that you will virtually become a spamming, immoral forum criminal like many of the inhabitants there.

Sincerely yours:

RunwithKnives.

the trainer will. No amount of reading will make you punch properly. Sorry dude, but that is the truth.

glad for you. wish i was 15. wish i still had 2 legs. good luck. if you ever make it to the pro's just remember that there are people that would give anything to be doing the same thing getting beat down or not. And you shouldn't care what anybody thinks as i'm sure you'll learn boxing is all about respect and being humbled.

There are some tapes on boxing. Check your local library. Mine had these 4 basics of boxing tapes. I checked one out. Seemed like it might do some good if you tried copying the guy on the video. Of course, having a real trainer has got to do tons better since a trainer could see you throwing the punches or moving incorrectly.
