View Full Version : Ong Bak: Muy Thai Warrior
UnstoppableOne 04-06-2005, 03:40 AM Anyone seen Ong Bak? Just curious to know because I saw it and I thought it was a pretty good movie with some great martial arts stunts and moves (Muy Thai in particular, hence da name)... Its a pretty old movie, but fairly recent in the US
I would especially like to know how all of the Thai people received the movie and whether you guys liked it or not...
Anyways here's some info on the movie if your deciding whether or not to see it and if you like Muy Thai I would tell you to check it out...
When the head of Ong-Bak--the sacred Buddha of a poor village--is stolen, the population is plunged into misery. The Buddha was the focal point of an anniversary vigil believed to bring rain to the drought-stricken area. Ting has an affinity with the statue as he was left on the temple steps as a baby and raised by monks, who taught him muay thai, but forbade him to use it in combat. But now he is forced to delve into a seedy underworld and try to avoid temptation...

nelsoncm 04-06-2005, 04:04 AM I saw the movie in September 2004. Good action. Just one thing though. The protagonist is almost mute. He never speaks.

Mr. Beelzebub 04-06-2005, 12:20 PM All those flying elbows were a little bit too much for me. Tony Jaa is a younger Jackie Chan, all the stunts were done by him without the use of any cables in any scenes.
No plot whatsoever, but the action is woth watching it. Good movie.

I'm sure some theater in your area is showing it. Check an art house theater or a big chain that has like 18 screens. There are less than 1,000 prints circulating, but if it made it to Lafayette, IN than surely it made it to Dallas.
It opened to a small amount of screens in the spring in a limited release, but Roger Ebert reviewed it and gave it 3 stars and it opened in the Top 20, so it'll probably be around a few more months in some capacity.
The US version is NOT the same version you can get on ebay or from import shops. The link to the store I bought it from AND to the differences between the versions are in one or more above posts I wrote a while back on this thread. Just go to page one and start reading...
