slavik18 04-05-2005, 04:24 PM http://www.laprensa.com.ni/deportes/deportes-20050405-01.html
Basically says, that Mayorga does not want to fight an eliminatory battle. He wants a championship fight with Javier Castillejo. Unfortunately, Castillejo is in Kenya, shooting a Spanish Reality Show. Mayorga says he did not sign for Garcia. Mayorga left back to Nicaragua. Don King productions is going to Nicaragua as well to convince him to return to the United States.
This sucks, most likely means that Mayorga will not be fighting on the 21 of May... Damn, I was excited too.
Super_Lightweight 04-05-2005, 04:28 PM Mayorga is dumb for not taking this fight if you ask me. Garcia is beatable and Javier is busy. Mayorga needs to fuight a little comeback fight and Garcia is a good opponent to do it against. Garcia is a banger but Mayo can take it.
Fareastwarrior 04-05-2005, 04:49 PM Well, Javier is too busy, Garcia is not attractive, in that case Mayorga should face El Feroz Fernando Vargas. Perhaps that will convince him for returning to the States.
slavik18 04-05-2005, 04:54 PM Too bad "El Feroz" would get slaughtered right now. Plus this is at 154, not 160.
Did vargas say that he could go down to 154? if he does i think mayorga takes him out.
Fareastwarrior 04-05-2005, 04:59 PM El Feroz has vowed several times to get back at 154, so it's a matter of time.
enadeus 04-05-2005, 05:08 PM Publictiy stunt.
im sick of picky ass fighters these days
Konstantin 04-06-2005, 12:01 AM Sadly boxing was better when it was the way to make a living. I mean back in the day fighters had to fight lots of fights to provide a pay check. Now days your decent, get manuvered up, fight one big, get smacked down, collect a big paycheck and retire for life.

All sports were better when it was like that.
Hurlex 04-06-2005, 12:04 AM yeah i herd of this..he's pissed cuz he was promised and started getting ready for a fight against castelljo (however u spell it) and than Don king/or whoever changes it out of nowhere...i think he shoudl fight garcia and i think he will...or if Don king wants to make some serious cash (and we win here people) he put mayorga vs vargas...and winner goes onto face castelljo...which mayorga has great, great chances against vargas and garcia anyway..and castelljo aint all that....santos would get KTFO also by vargas or mayorga
Mayorga KO's Vargas BIG!
Round 1.
I'm not a big Mayorga fan, but I would have loved to have seen this fight happen, Garcia is a slugger and Mayo has a good chin on him, with in my opinion not as hard of a hit, it would have been interesting to see who would have given in first.
neils7147933 04-06-2005, 12:13 AM I don't care who he fights, but I'm going May 21, and I want to see Mayorga KO somebody!
MlLkMan 04-06-2005, 01:17 AM With Vargas new style, he will surely get laid the pack out by Mayorga
Mr. Untouchable 04-06-2005, 01:30 AM im sick of picky ass fighters these daysYeah what ever happened to I'll fight anybody anytime, it's seems like that is just something fighters say when they are broke and in need of big fights, it seems like once fighters get paid, then they turn ***** and start picking and choosing fights. I know a lot of people have bad things to say about the show The Contender, but one thing it shows is that if fighters didn't have say so in whom they fight like in other sports, then there would be a lot less undeafeated records and fake ass champions in the sport...
Famoso Matador 04-06-2005, 01:31 AM Wow, now this blows. I can see why Mayorga would be mad though. He signed for a championship fight and now he is told that he wont fight in one. .... I hope he takes this fight, and starts focusing at the fight at hand. ..... Than gets really mad, and goes off on Castillejos face.
Gerald 04-06-2005, 11:29 AM If Mayorga won't fight then give Garcia the shot at Castillejo
Garcia is made for Mayorga. I don't think he should be so discontented with an eliminator rather than a straight shot - he's lost two of his last three and he only beat Eric Mitchell
jack_the_rippuh 04-06-2005, 11:35 AM I guess Mayorga knows King has the power to do it...just look at Andrew Golota and his title shots after losses.
slavik18 04-06-2005, 02:04 PM Well, more news today about this. Appears Mayorga is saying "No" and it is final. He said it was agreed he would fight Castillejo, and has no interest in Garcia. Even though Don King is paying him a lot of money for the Garcia fight. I don't really understand the end of this article

I think it says that its a shame because Mayorga is not training right now because of this, even though he needs too. Maybe someone else can translate it better. Either way looks like we won't see Mayo for a while :(
Famoso Matador 04-06-2005, 06:08 PM Translation :
Renzo Bagnariol would like to play a hand in the decisions of local boxers.
His position as a member of the WBA executive comittee has obligated him to stay at a distance.
As a matter of fact, with so much experience in this thing we call boxing, Renzo is well aware of Ricardo Mayorga, whom has decided no to fight the mexican Alejandro "Terra" Garcia, on may 21st in Chicago, under the umbrella of Don King Promotions.
"In my very personal opinion, speaking as a fellow boxing follower, i think that Mayorga has made a very misguided decision.", said Renzo.
"I know that the amount of money that he was offered for the fight is very big, and i think he should fight", He indicated.
Mayorga refuses to fight Garcia because he signed to face off with the spaniard Francisco Javier Castillejo, WBC Super Welterweight Champion.
However the fight with Terra could be signicant, on top of it being a wise economical decision, there is the posibility to get a win, which would lead to a face off with castillejo.
"Mayorga should think about his future, but the sad thing is that he is not training. When he gets the big opportunities, he wont be able to take them because he wont be prepaired.", said Renzo.
Mayorga has not fought since October 2nd when he was Knocked Out by "Tito" Trinidad.
But his return to the ring has been postponed, even though he has a chance to shine.
"Prepaired, Mayorga has it in him to beat whomever is in his class, but its a shame that he has even stopped training", finished Renzo.
ELPacman 04-06-2005, 06:53 PM Without reading through all the pages. Anyone else realize Garcia has 28 wins, with 28 KOs and 1 loss? That could be why he's scared, the guy has a better and scarier record than Mayorga.
Famoso Matador 04-06-2005, 07:15 PM Dont think that has anything to do with it. Mayorga fought Trinidad, whom does he have to fear at super welter?
BadMagick 04-06-2005, 07:34 PM Dont think that has anything to do with it. Mayorga fought Trinidad, whom does he have to fear at super welter?
Maybe that's why he'd be scared? He fought a guy who KO'ed his ass. I'd be a bit frightened by a power puncher, if I were him.
Famoso Matador 04-06-2005, 08:06 PM Nah, i dont think so. I think i would do the same thing as Mayorga if i were in his shoes. I would be Stubborn and hard-headed, he signed a contract and than he finds out it doesnt mean anything. And what about Castillejo not fighting because he is filming a reality show. What kind of a champion is he?

Too bad for Mayo . . . this is not the best time for him to be choosy :) He just came from a lost and it would be best for him to fight anybody to get back in the thick of the action. Garcia is a tough fight for him but this is what he exactly need to be lined up for bigger fights.
