I'll RED K u now u fuking piece of shit!

Condolences is just another word for pity.

In other words he is sympathetic with Z Gorres' current condition.

Although condolences is most commonly used for a loss. I agree.

Did he choose his words wrong? yes. Did he mean well? Of course he did. Now stop being a dickhead about things and show some respect.

To repeat what I said in the other thread:

Hey, Tua :)
Gotta disagree with you both, because of the present context.

In the same way that we distinguish between the uses of the
greetings "Good evening" and "Good night", based on custom
rather than dictionary definitions, the offering of "condolences"
has become associated with sympathy over a death.

Yes, you can still get away with offering "condolences" for
non-death related misfortunes, like losing a job or whatever,
but the above-mentioned association with sympathy over a
death makes it distasteful to offer "condolences" when there
is a present risk of death, as in Z Gorres' case.

Customs differ across cultures, and if Jiddu meant no harm,
then he meant no harm. He should however recognize that
the dictionary does not always account for cultural sensitivities.
"Good evening" and "Good night" are differentiated more on the
basis of custom than of dictionary defintitions, no? I can't
hide behind the dictionary if I make a loud, public comment that
I'd had "intercourse" with someone else's woman, instead of
clearly saying I'd had a chat with her.

Just saying there's something objectionable there.
If there was no malice intended, then we should just call it a
misunderstanding, and keep hoping Z recovers real soon.

:)
Cheers,
h.

you've said it right bro..if he doesnt have any bad intentions over Z's condition as he was claiming...then let it go.

The issue here is Z's misfortune, lets just pray for him to recover and live longer.

IMO...no need to RED K the guy over that if he has no bad intention.

someone told me that in philippines , you only use condolences in case of death is that true , horge?

anyways , that guy who started all this didn't mean anything by it. he's a troll sometimes but i don't think in this case. he's american and in america condolences doesn't necessarily mean death.

When offered in serious, that is true, yes.
I'm also aware of how it is applied more loosely
in the US... as are other Pinoys.

I believe your boy meant no malice, and normally,
Filipinos unfamiliar with foreign usages/customs
would have held back and observed to see what
was really going on.

The problem is that his past behavior puts nearly
everything he says in the worst possible light, so
I can understand why quite a few lashed out at
him. Anyway...

Let's all just put in a prayer for Z's recovery.

Same. I been arguing with that Flomo for weeks, but I don't think he meant anything bad by what he said. At least, I hope he didn't. The reason I say this is because I red K'd hm for saying some dumb shit, and he hit me back with green and a message: "Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.” This led me to believe the guy actually does have a heart. After that, we decided to stop bickering with each other.

PBD, I think you might have misunderstood him. But if I'm wrong, so be it.
