View Full Version : Your best/worst British commentators? NO FEAR 11-12-2009, 03:00 PM Who would be your ideal British commentary team and why? And also who are your least favourite and why? Will answer myself after a bit of consideration. colin scott 11-13-2009, 11:39 AM not sure really just someone that aint too anoying really lol As mentioned before Duke Mckenzie is quite good i think. Sick/ 11-13-2009, 11:46 AM I like Duke and Mcguigan. Chunk. 11-13-2009, 11:51 AM Best: Steve Holdsworth. Worst: Jim Watt. NO FEAR 11-13-2009, 11:57 AM I think Richie Woodhall is good, don't like Jim Watt or Duke McKenzie, and John Rawling is a tit. Think Woodhall and Ian Darke would make a good team. Bigchill79 11-13-2009, 04:01 PM Ian Darke is the best. imho. Him and Richie Woodhall. I like Jim Watt too adietheforestfa 11-13-2009, 04:23 PM Reg Gutteridge best by far the best. Jim Watt the worst. GJC 11-13-2009, 04:51 PM I always suprisingly liked Eammon Andrews commentating on the radio but I guess that might be before a few peoples time. Richie-G 11-13-2009, 05:09 PM JIM WATT IS ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol his voice is so annoying, and he always gets scorecards wrong KenBuchanan 11-13-2009, 05:24 PM Probably Duke McKenzie and Barry Mcguigan. Used to like Reg Gutteridge, the guy was a legend. Harry Carpenter deserves a mention as well. INCOGNITO 11-14-2009, 08:29 PM Jim Watt knows his stuff if you ask me but I agree that he has one of the most annoying voices on the box. Chip2006uk 11-14-2009, 08:31 PM I like Duke and Mcguigan. Exactly what I was going to say, love these two Mersey 11-15-2009, 08:31 AM Jim Watt, once again annoying the **** out of me during the Pac-Cotto fight. He says the same thing every single round, and hardly acknowledged anything Cotto did when Pac was starting to take the fight. "Pacquiao gives Cotto the first minute or so and then starts throwing his punches" WE KNOW JIM, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL US EVERY ROUND. Cunt. mrbigshot 11-15-2009, 08:42 AM jim watt is a fvcking tosspot ibnabdullah 11-15-2009, 10:41 AM I like the BBC commentators. They're much better than the SKY team. slapbangwhallop 11-15-2009, 01:30 PM Best: Steve Holdsworth. Worst: Jim Watt. Holdsworth - are you serious? slapbangwhallop 11-15-2009, 01:31 PM I think Richie Woodhall is good, don't like Jim Watt or Duke McKenzie, and John Rawling is a tit. Think Woodhall and Ian Darke would make a good team. Finally, someone that knows what they are on about. Although I dont think Rawling is that bad Degsy 11-17-2009, 09:02 PM As much as I admired both Duke and Jim in the ring, they are to commentating what Booby Charlton was to football management. Their scoring, Watt consistently, is so far of the mark it is shocking, especially for someone of such pedigree. Woodall and McGuigan are two of the more knowledgeable imho Degsy 11-17-2009, 09:04 PM Holdsworth - are you serious? Its Watt's scoring that tnds to do my nut, there is nothing wrong with his brouge. steeluv 11-17-2009, 09:17 PM Exactly what I was going to say, love these two straight barry and duke, hate jim watt! The Gully Gad 11-17-2009, 11:45 PM I gotta go with my man Barry love the way the dude calls a fight.. And my worse would be Adam Smith.... Dem Eyes 11-17-2009, 11:49 PM Watt is a pile of wank. Mugwump 11-18-2009, 06:58 AM The only problem with McGuigan is that he has a tendency to repeat the same line over and over and over again to the point where it grates on your ears. Reg was the best by a country mile. Duke knows his stuff but he's a bit bland and Watt is just crap. mickey malone 11-18-2009, 08:39 AM Gary Mason He was absolutely superb, until an F word comment got him the sack.. Real shame cos the guy called it as it is, as well as adding some much needed humour, which is sadly lacking from the whining negativity of Jim Watt.. Poor old McGuigan isn't too bad, and shows remarkable enthusiasm for someone who would never have considered the job had he not been left totally destitute by the irrepressable Barney Eastwood.. Of those departed, both Reg Gutteridge and Eamon Andrews knew their stuff, Andrews infact, was a very useful fighter in his day.. Harry Carpenter, you can tell, isn't really a massive boxing fan.. I'd say he's more at home commentating the Golf, but God bless him, would always root for the British fighter, especially Our Enry & Bruno.. Jim Rosenthal is the modern day equivilent.. Would have just loved to have seen David Coleman as a boxing commentator! Of todays lot, Steve Holdsworth wins it hands down.. Just a crying shame that he's on Euro trash.. He should team up with Mason & they'd make a killing! Bunce has too many opinions, some of them, bordering on the ridiculous.. McCrory's OK, but still there as a joker in the pack, but I quite like Ian Darke, especially during after fight interviews where, much like Larry Merchant, he dares to be bold, in asking the questions that we all want to know the answers to.. mrboxer 11-18-2009, 09:38 AM i do not care who is calling the fight,i have no need to listen to americans, canadians or british commentators,i want to watch a fight with the volume down,:beerchug: Mugwump 11-18-2009, 09:45 AM Come to think of it, John Rawling isn't bad. S.G. 11-18-2009, 11:10 AM Come to think of it, John Rawling isn't bad. I like him. Him and Richie Woodhall are my ideal commentary team of the current guys. Woodhall knows his ****, he's a cool guy and he's a Baggies fan Too Much 4U 11-18-2009, 06:45 PM Duke Mckenzie |
