View Full Version : Is it time for Larry Merchant to retire?
Zab Super Judah 11-24-2004, 11:59 PM ??????? this guy sometimes doesn't seem to know what he's even talking about....and he seems really bias with his opinions.....everytime judah fights on hbo...merchant always has to say something negative about him or cuts him off in the interview......he was also giving no credit to hopkins after his victory over dlh....I just think its time for merchant to retire..he just seems like a old grumpy man

His job is to irritate people. Hence NO.
Merchant is great. He doesn't need to retire. It's just that Judah hasn't fought any better fighter. Maybe you are referring to the post interview of Merchant to Judah vs. Martell. It's just that Merchant is hard to please before he can say a boxer is of a tough caliber.
Zab Super Judah 11-25-2004, 12:23 AM nah i dont mind merchants comments bout judah when he fought martell.....i just think sometimes merchant seems alittle out of it
Hurlex 11-25-2004, 12:25 AM he crosses the line sometimes..but overall i think he's funny...dude i just know this guy my get to hyped and die on camera on day...anyway..i ay keep they guy so he can fight with RJJ like he did with forman

He does what he thinks is right and what is required by his job. As simple as that. As a commentator, you can't change the fact that there are other people who thinks you are bias coz they have also their own opinion or point of view. But I think Merchant is just doing his job. Peace bro!!!
catskills23 11-25-2004, 12:46 AM How old is merchant and how long has he being covering boxing on hbo ? .
xoalvinox 11-25-2004, 11:58 PM Although I absolutely loath his asinine analogies, he gives it to you real. 100% truth, and for some, the truth hurts, hence the dislike towards him.
The Fix 11-26-2004, 12:02 AM merchant needs to fall down a set of stairs
neils7147933 11-26-2004, 12:05 AM Dumping Merchant would have been like the Cubs dumping Harry Caray or ESPN making Dick Vitale step down. Come on - bad thread.

LOL.
Lets put it this way, would you rather the HBO crew (my pick) or the Showtime crew?
The Fix 11-26-2004, 12:08 AM i like both crews i just dont like the rambler
xoalvinox 11-26-2004, 12:13 AM The Showtime crew is so mundane. They all have no emotions I.E. Jim Gray.
paulmmv 11-27-2004, 02:30 AM Merchant does a good job
jujitsujn 11-27-2004, 03:49 AM he is past due to retire.
MlLkMan 11-27-2004, 12:11 PM Nicely said.

Yeah the analogies, 10 minutes and he finally gets to what he wanted to say and it sucked and you just want to kill yourself afterwards
Tyson'scolon 11-27-2004, 12:33 PM He shouldn't retire, but he definitely needs to stop drinking on an empty stomach.

Nah, he is fun because he is so opinionated.
tys0n 11-27-2004, 12:46 PM the thing i hate about larry is that it takes him so damn long to spit something out. oh yeah his anologies suck too.
