View Full Version : Nice boxers???
+= El Jefe=+ 03-30-2005, 01:03 PM in the last Ring Magazine they talk about
how he is a great person (not boxer)
and how he has a kid with Hydrocephalus (wather in the brain)
carry his belt to the ring.
thats cool of him, do you guys know any other boxer
who does somethign alike that,
like help the needy or such ???
Ricky gets my respect just for doing so
puppy_dogg 03-30-2005, 01:08 PM roy still gives money to mcclellan but i think quite a few boxers have
Mr. Ryan 03-30-2005, 01:17 PM Roy Jones to me is a walking contradiction of sorts. I hate him as a fighter, he wasted his immense talents on Otis Grant and Bryant Brannon, didn't fight any credible opponents for 10 years, and didn't believe in exciting fights. But as a person and announcer, he is among my favorites. I remember watching a montage HBO did for him to build up one of his fights, and it showed how much of a good person he is, and how he is with his sons and it made me like him as a person. It might not seem like much, but a man who sticks around and is a good father means something, believe me. He is an entertaining and knowledgeable announcer, and is rather charming sometimes. He is very professional and adds a good balance between the contrasting styles of Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley. Roy Jones is my favorite person in the sport, but my least liked fighter. Vernon Forrest is a similar story with me.
puppy_dogg 03-30-2005, 01:22 PM sharmba mitchell seems like one of the nicest and most polite fighters. vernon is a cool guy to, i liked his fnf episode
oldgringo 03-30-2005, 01:30 PM Thomas Hearns is a very nice guy in real life...
James Toney is a nice guy in real life (or at least he was 10 years ago)
Vitali Klitschko seems like he'd be a very pleasant person
I hear Morales is a nice guy...he's very family oriented
Barrera seems like he'd be a good father
Chris Eubank is a nice guy from what I've heard
Vernon Forrest seems like he'd be a good guy
I think roy jones is a great person. I think larry holmes said it best 'don't get fooled by all this RJ crap...that's for the cameras.Roy's one of the nicest guys i've met.' Roy has devoteed a lot to young and up comming boxers, paid tribute to geralld (when nobody else would), keeps strong ties with his kids, has contributed so much to the city of pensecola...
i think it's lame and immature people get turned off by his on-screen ****iness...people should know the man before they judge him.
PessimisticPug 03-30-2005, 01:42 PM Most of the fighters that I know are really nice and good people. Theres a stereotypical view that the general public has of fighters, a crooked nosed thug always pushin' people. The general public, as usual, doesnt know boxing or boxers. Greg Wright opened a center that helps autistic children learn to cope and improve skills. Greg is an A+ type of person, one of the better ones that you will find in any profession.........Rockin' :boxing:
The Klitschko Brothers are really good guys. Vitali is one of the nicest and most respectful fighters in the sport, his brother as well. They are class acts, in the day and age of people preferring "crass" fighters. They have never had anything but respectful things to say about their challengers. And that quote Torino has in his sig, says it all about Vitali. Him "defending his title" like a champion promise etc.
AintGottaClue 03-30-2005, 02:06 PM ya its kind of obvious that the klitschko borthers r nice guys. how about when vitali said i know rahman is a good fighter cause he beat and KO'd a prime lewis and he didnt? man u talk about respectful i was liek holy cow when he said that
BrooklynBomber 03-30-2005, 02:45 PM I gotta agree with Rockin. I've been doing my routine workout at Glesons and we have a lot of professionals and most of them are really good people. guys like Wayne Braithwaite are not ashamed to hold the door for you and shake your hand. Even Judah most of the times ats like a really decent person. i also noticed that fighters are some of the most respectful athletes that I have ever known. Definately more respectful than H.S and college athletes. Not that I have anything against them just a little observation I made a while ago when I just started boxing.
Truth 03-30-2005, 03:05 PM I think roy jones is a great person. I agree Roy seems like a cool person and a class act to me.
jack_the_rippuh 03-30-2005, 03:29 PM James Butler is a pretty nice guy. He never breaks any rules, he's a good sportsman, a people's person, and he would never kill anyone.
kapersky 03-30-2005, 03:29 PM mike tyson seem to be a nice guy,but after cus died he had wrong people around him.
mike tyson seem to be a nice guy.
I have to disagree.
Raping Women, Biting legs and ears, attacking female reporters, threatening the life of a fighter's child, etc does not constitute being nice IMO. I doubt his friends and promoters told him to do that. If they did though, they were certainly thinking out of the box.....because that actually won him over some fans. :grumble:
oldgringo 03-30-2005, 04:02 PM James Butler is a pretty nice guy. He never breaks any rules, he's a good sportsman, a people's person, and he would never kill anyone.
He's definitely not one to sucker punch anyone either...I can see him winning a nobel prize one day....
BrooklynBomber 03-30-2005, 04:13 PM James Butler is a pretty nice guy. He never breaks any rules, he's a good sportsman, a people's person, and he would never kill anyone.
And he is definately best friends with Kellerman family.
Angelina Jolie...
Sorry, misread the topic....!
boxerman 03-30-2005, 06:53 PM From the guys I've been around, I'd have to say Holyfield or Vernon Forrest. Both seemed to be nice guys and do alot for the community and kids.
.::EnRiQuE::. 03-30-2005, 08:18 PM I met Micky Ward before... he's pretty kool. he send the gym i go to sum money, and sum pics. he also sent the everlast guys to out gym and they gave us a buncha gloves.
masterdirector 03-31-2005, 12:12 AM You're a ****** Runwknives. Yeah, Tyson raped that ***** at all. Dumb ****.
Tyson is a very nice person as long as you're nice to him.
Mayweather is a nice guy. He does a lot of charity work for the Ronald McDonald house. Not many boxers that'd dress up like Ronald McDonald. And we barely ever read anything about him doing that.

i know, but i mean before cus died, his syter, and manager(not sure)
and fire kevin rooney. its when don king took over everything went wrong. he is a nice guy before than no doubt. and i dont think he raped anybody actually, he dont need to. he could get anyone he want back then. biting legs and ear, threatening the life of a fighter´s child is considering what he had been throw its normal :o.

Sugar Ray Leonard
Emanuel Steward-even though his not a fighter

That whole Castillo thing "is whack." You know you love Scott Baio.
You are unpredictable. One day, you type extensive posts that actually make sense. The other, you type like you have recieved blunt force trauma to the head. :lurk:
kapersky 03-31-2005, 01:06 AM and holyfield, ali, lewis seem to be nice guys

Funny how there seems to be a direct correlation with me reading your stupid ass posts and me acting that way. Castillo vs. Corrales, the thought just sickens me. I've said I wasn't going to watch it, but I will be watching actually. I don't want to comment on matches I haven't seen. Unlike some posters.
