View Full Version : Why won't Floyd and Kostya fight?
!! Mr. Soprano 03-30-2005, 10:38 AM It seems like we have 2 of the Light Welterweight's BEST...
How come they never meet, nor do I hear anything about this in any future?
What are your predictions for this fight? Should they fight?

Once Floyd takes care of Gatti, Kostya Tszyu and Oscar De La Hoya will be his new targets.

(As this could be a real deal, I don't think this should be posted under fantasy fights)
PRboxingfan 03-30-2005, 11:06 AM I think PBF decisions KZ easily. Kostya would try and be too aggressive and Floyd would play that against him by moving and smacking him with the right all night long.
I don't think PBF will ever fight Oscar, tho. DLH has said it repeatedly.
SnoopySmurf 03-30-2005, 11:11 AM PBF is way too slick. He'd win unscathed on points with a few notable rounds where PBF hits Zoo "where he ain't" as the saying goes.
It'll be like Sugar Ray vs LaMotta all over again.
MetalVomit 03-30-2005, 11:14 AM Once Floyd takes care of Gatti, Kostya Tszyu and Oscar De La Hoya will be his new targets.
KT and Oscar will abuse Floyd.
^^^Tszyu has a chance but DLH will get his ass whooped
Kimmy 03-30-2005, 12:36 PM The will never happen unless Tsyzu moved to HBO. It is very rare Showtime fighters fight HBO fighters. In recent heavyweight title matches, namely the Lewis Holyfield/Tyson matches there was too much money on the table to NOT let the fights happen. Unless Tsyzu moved to HBO ( i have no idea of Tsyzu contract with showtime, durtation etc.. ) but it`ll never happen. It just comes with boxing i guess!
oldgringo 03-30-2005, 12:39 PM Floyd takes a close decision over Tszyu and loses a close decision to DLH.
I think DLH beats Tszyu but who knows what DLH will look like at 147.
enadeus 03-30-2005, 12:44 PM I'd pay anything to see De la Hoya vs Kostya.

Well, if it's a PPV event, they can share in the profits, I guess. It's only a problem if it's on regular network time and not a PPV as this would be.

In their prime yes! But DLH is way too lazy now... I don't think he will ever be that "hungry" boxer we once knew him as..
bigdlb12 03-30-2005, 03:55 PM I'd pay anything to see De la Hoya vs Kostya.anything? j/p
Yeah I think the reason it hasnt happened is b/c PBF might be scared of KT, lets face it, PBF is a bigger name than Kostya and if he wanted the fight it would of happen by now or at least hear something about it, now as for DLH, PBF wants to fight him for the reason everyone in the world wants to fight him, a big ass payday i say dlh beats PBF, KT I am not sure, lets wait and see what happens after ricki hatton
Martin (Top Knowledge) 03-30-2005, 05:48 PM I'd go with Kostya Tszyu winning by KO!
Floyd Mayweather is in the wrong weight division now, he's in with the BIG BOY'S... And it will only get worse if he moves to welterweight!
Light-welterweights are a diffrerent WORLD too Superfeather/lightweights!
davico 03-30-2005, 05:55 PM Well, if it's a PPV event, they can share in the profits, I guess. It's only a problem if it's on regular network time and not a PPV as this would be.
The 2 networks have only ever come together twice, for the Lewis v holyfield fight and the Lewis v tyson fight. The only reson they came together was because they knew that in terms of money, they would be the 2 biggest fights in history.
I hate to say it but there is no way PBF v KT could generate the kind of money that would be needed to get the 2 networks together.
I think KT would stop PBF late by the way
Red_Menace 03-30-2005, 05:58 PM I don't think KT vs PBF would be anything like Robinson vs the Bronx Bull. KT has way more skill defensively than the Bull did. KT is a power fighter, but he's still a boxer, not a brawler. I think KT would have a good chance of beating him.
KT has to be the slight favorite over Floyd because of how Floyd dealt with JL Castillo.
Castillo gave Floyd fits in both fights and most believe he outpointed Floyd in the first fight including myself.
JL is not as slick as KT and if he can pressure Floyd and make him look somewhat ordinary I believe KT's lazor like right hand will find a home at given points during the fight and the site of Floyd's head snapping back couple with his retreating will make this a very close fight and one that I can see Zoo winning.
Those who say this is a cake walk for Floyd need to review the Castillo tapes, I don't no how you could watch both of those fights and then say that Floyd will have an easy time with Zoo.
Keep in mind that there is a reason that Floyd has not called out Zoo like he has other fighters...Floyd has not been a champion for sometime now...
Merly Moreira 03-30-2005, 06:06 PM after he rapes gatti he should shut vivian harris the hell up. is guy as good as he thinks or is that just hype?
Why? PBF's innate survival instincts, in the case of Tszyu. dlH's a different issue. At 147, this could be a really great fight--if Oscar can ever actually catch Floyd.
Nodogoshi 03-30-2005, 06:38 PM I think a Tszyu-Mayweather fight would be a war. Floyed would probably outland Tszyu for a while but Tszyu would break him down, especially to the body. Floyed wouldnt be able to slip all of his shots and I think Tszyu would land a bomb to put him out between the 6th and 8th rounds.
Showtime Vs HBO
A shame, this is the fight many fans would like to see.
-GBGQ- 03-30-2005, 08:36 PM Yeah, that would be a great fight. I doubt it ever happens but it would be worth ppv dollars. It's basically a toss-up, either Floyd on points or Kosta by Ko. I can easily see both happening. But don't insult anyones intelligence by saying Floyd would smoke Oscar at 147. Floyd needs to start making big time noise at 140, there are plenty of guys to fight in that division before he should even mention moving up.
I'm not sure how Oscar would look back at 147, 75% of me says he would be awesome but you never know how his body reacts to it. But Floyd has NO BUSINESS at 147. I can name a bevy of Welterweights who would beat Floyd and they aren't even the top Welters.
So Floyd, with all due to respect because he is a boxing genius, quit fighting the the N'dou's, Corley's, and Bruseles's of the world and get back to the old Floyd. The one who dismantled Corrales with relative ease. The Floyd that only wanted the best in the world.
