ive ben wanting to get into boxing for a long time but i live in the middle of no where so there arent any boxing gyms around here. Theres a mma gym and i went to that for a while but they focused more on the ground game and kicking so i was wondering if i shud just keep going to that for the stand up but is there a big difference in boxing in mma and actuall boxing? and also wich is better running on a treadmill or running outside or does it really matter? thanks for the help

ask at your mma gym if you can focus more on punching or ask a coach if he knows any boxing gyms near by.

I say take what you can get, it's better than nothing. Just take the striking classes until you find something better.

Or you can buy a heavy bag and gloves and practice at home yourself.

That's bull-****. Running is much more difficult outside than on a treadmill. Indoors= controlled environment and is not as hard for your body to handle. There are many different variables that come into play when running outside that make it much more challenging.

Where do you live? There's got to be a gym that you could at least travel to on the weekend. If you're really serious abut boxing, you need to learn from a professional. No book, dvd, or advice on the internet has ever produced a world champion.

actually there is a difference between running on the road and running on a treadmill.. its less effort on a treadmill being the surface under you is moving and you just have to glide with it.. on the road you have to push your own body weight every step

This is bull****. While you can't mimic natural terrain, you can still reach peak conditioning without running or doing cardio outside.

Running on solid terrain is also more stressful on your joints. I'll take a treadmill or stationary bike any day.

That makes no sense at all! Pretty sure you have to push off when using a treadmill lol, you don just "glide".

if it's an electric treadmill you don't have to push off. running on a treadmill is not as effective as running outside but you can still get yourself in plenty good enough shape on a treadmill or swimming.

Go ahead and run on a treadmill. When you face someone who does the same amount of running as you, but outside you'll see the difference. Every boxing expert and pro fighter can't be wrong. Btw, try running 5 miles on the road one day then running 5 miles on the treadmill the next. I know myself and many other who can do almost twice as many miles on the treadmill than on the road. Yeah, sure you can get good conditioning on the treadmill but it still won't ever equal what you get out of road work. Do you box? Because if you did I would think that you'd know this. Any legitimate trainer would instill the importance of roadwork into their fighters.

I still do roadwork, but making it your only method of cardiovascular exercise is dumb. Especially with the day to day impact that running on terrain for distance does to joints.

I never said you shouldn't do roadwork, but you can still reach peak conditioning through other methods.

For example have you ever pushed a prowler?

And I never said it should be your only method of cardiovascular exercise, just that it is more beneficial than a treadmill. Of course there are several different ways to exercise, and certain ways are better than others.
