I know there have been many fighters who retired as champion, but how many never made a comeback? I came up with a few. Can the board list others?

Lennox Lewis
Rocky Marciano
Gene Tunney
Joe Calzhage
Carlos Monzon
Sandy Saddler
Ricardo Lopez

I know there are quite a few more.

Marvin Hagler

Sadly Marvin didn't retire as champ. But the was the first name to come to my mind too.

Maybe "retired" isn't the right word, but Masao Ohba and Salvador Sanchez of course died when they were reigning champs.

Ah right, I wondered where he went..

I remember the 2 fights with Michael Brodie, kinda reminded me of Dave boy McCauley's wars with Fidel Bassa.. Close fought and brutal..
Do you know his K1 score so far?

1 win 1 loss. I saw the first fight and thought he lost it. It went to an extra round (what ever that means)

Yeh, pro boxers never seem to take to K1 too well.. Don't know why they bother.. The extra round is for if it's a draw after 5 rnds for championship bouts or 3rnds for non-championship.. So in otherwords, there isn't any draws.. TBH, it wouldn't be a bad idea for boxing either!..

Just for a laugh....

This is how I started answering your post, b4 I realized that I hadn't read your answer properly..

Nah, it was a Draw and a loss (TKO7).. Both fights were fairly brutal, mainly due to Brodie's tendency to swell up like John Merrick, which he did in a lot of his fights..

Lol

Ernesto Marcel. Was the SFW champ and retired unbeaten as champion, defeating Alexis Arguello in his last fight and smartly never made any comeback. Incredible fighter nominated for the HOF this year.

EDIT: I see good ol' MM beat me to it.:fing02:

Also, didn't Jofre retire as champ in his second division? Or did he relinquish them beforehand?

I may have worded my question wrong. I am talking about fighters who retired as champ and never fought again. That would exclude Robinson, Armstrong and Duran who moved up in weight. Your other additions are excellent as well.

Not 100% on Saddler.. Think he may have made a comeback..

Saddler retired as World Featherweight champion in 1956. His last fight was a non-title 10 round loss to Larry Boardman. Saddler was completely shot and retired and vacated the title, never fighting again.

Oh OK, I took it as, retired as champ in that weight division.. Fair enough.
