I'm trying to convert some fight footage from an AVI source to MPGS... now, most of the time this will work with no problems. But occasionally you'll get an AVI file that won't carry the sound when transferred into MPG (by TMPeng)

Should I transfer it to a WMV file first?

No that will degrade the quality.

Cheers, SJ... this converts it to a DVD file, right?

Unfortunately I need it in a MPG file as the DVD converter I'm using works from MPGs and all my other files are in that format.

Cheers for the help, guys - I'm just an ignoramous. Any idea why the sound goes on my AVIs? It's a pain.

I'd say 90% of audio problems with conversion from AVI to MPG can be resolved by extracting the audio as wav and use the resulting wav file as your audio source when encoding in tmpgenc.
It's better to use uncompressed audio when encoding.
