RJ or BHop? I'd go with RJ. Hopkins may have had many ko's in his early career, but it was mostly against smaller guys who were natural mws, unlike him. Roy on the other hand knocked out natural lhws.

Stoppage 10-30-2009, 05:15 PM Definitely Jones. He had one punch knockout power. bojangles1987 10-30-2009, 06:08 PM Definitely Jones. He had one punch knockout power. Yep. Not even a debate. Joey Giardello 10-30-2009, 06:24 PM Not even close roy jones Abstraction 10-30-2009, 07:31 PM so he was too big to be a MW, but not weight drained either? wow, you country red necks crack me up. He schooled Pavlik, live with it Benncollinsaad 10-30-2009, 07:32 PM so he was too big to be a MW, but not weight drained either? wow, you country red necks crack me up. He schooled Pavlik, live with it "Red necks"?? I'm from Norway! S H O B O X 10-30-2009, 07:37 PM prime rj had more power than a prime bhop Junito-Rulez 10-30-2009, 08:14 PM I don't understand why would you compare both. It's obvious that Roy hit harder, he was a hell of a puncher. Bernard Hopkins was never known to have mad power. In his prime he was a great boxer with good/average punching ability. His skills made him KO his opponent. It's like comparing Mayweather's to Cotto's punching power at WW. Sergio Martinez 10-30-2009, 08:22 PM Jones, No Dout! I was originally gonna make a thread about how big Roy's punching power was/is, but then I came up with this. Dynamite Kid 10-30-2009, 10:25 PM I thought this was pretty much common knowledge. Hopkins was not even a particularly big puncher at MW, he knocked a few guys cold, like Lipsy and some other dude who's name escapes me, but the guy he knocked out was an average fighter. Slimey Limey 10-30-2009, 10:52 PM Alright, I think he has had enough. Silencers 10-30-2009, 11:42 PM Definitely Jones. mickey malone 10-31-2009, 06:10 AM Pretty wide majority here... Not surprising as I'd say only Stanley Ketchell punched harder at middle, and to be honest, I don't think B/Hop would make the top 10 in terms of power.. Monzon, Hagler, Robinson, La Motta, Graziano, Fullmer, Cerdan and probably Iran Barkley were arguably, all more powerful than Hopkins, but not quite up to Jones's level... #1Assassin 10-31-2009, 06:18 AM just ignorant question. jones had nasty power at 160 and 168, and at 175 he still had explosive power. hopkins was never a big puncher. broker guys down but very rarely took guys out with one shot. Yes, they all, including Barkley, were bigger punchers. mickey malone 11-01-2009, 01:39 PM Yes, they all, including Barkley, were bigger punchers. Benn & McClellan to.. Benncollinsaad 11-01-2009, 02:09 PM Benn & McClellan to.. That's pretty obvious, isn't it?;) He was lucky he never met any of them in the ring. Not that he would ever fight Benn, but had McClellan not moved up to 168, Hopkins might've found himself fighting him. If he had the balls that is. mickey malone 11-01-2009, 02:15 PM That's pretty obvious, isn't it?;) He was lucky he never met any of them in the ring. Benncollinsaad 11-01-2009, 02:34 PM You shouldn't doubt B/Hops courage.. Not sure about that...he didn't fight ALL the best competition out there, not in the 90's. Action Jackson was clearly over the hill when he beat him, Road Warrior was not in his right element at 160 and the others were mostly no-hopers. Anyway, if he ever did fight G-Man, he'd get kayoed. That's certain. He wasn't as sound defensively back then, Hopkins. mickey malone 11-01-2009, 02:46 PM Not sure about that...he didn't fight ALL the best competition out there, not in the 90's. I'd say he'd have schooled both McClellan & Benn TBH.. |
