View Full Version : FINALLY! Just watched Morales/Pacman
TyrantT316 03-27-2005, 11:35 PM 7-5 for Morales
rematch...
awesome fight...props to Manny...and his heart shown...determination...was always in the fight...
props to the winner Morales who came with it, stood toe to toe...when he was hurt several times, he just jumped forward and traded as did Manny on most occassions...
anyone saying Pacman is done or overrated needs to rethink what they are saying...Pacman fought better than he has recently, just against a guy who refused to buckle under his will and was the better man that night...I think Pacman still has good power at 130, Morales just has an IRON chin and fighter's determination to fight back effectively when hurt...Pacman showed a great chin as well
MlLkMan 03-28-2005, 12:42 AM I wanna see a REMATCH!
enadeus 03-28-2005, 12:49 AM There better be a rematch. Hopefully he will look into this promoter disaster. I wonder how much they paid the promoter to switch the gloves in the contract. Freddy Roach said they are pillow gloves, haha.
abdiel2k3 03-28-2005, 12:51 AM saw an article that said manny was suein murad
apparently murad made like 2.45mill
while pac only made like 1.75mill
so im thinkin
pac and murad were haven trouble
murad thought manny might leavem
murad had oppurtunity for pac to fight erik
eriks camp wanted his gloves
so long as murad got some more cash he had no problem
he either figured pacs gonna lose so might as well cash in
or pacs gonna win and leave my ass so might as well cash in
Hurlex 03-28-2005, 01:09 AM like Roy Jones said,it wouldnt have matter what the gloves were with how morales skills were owning pac and with how much pac was getting hit and countered.
NiGe2011 03-28-2005, 01:13 AM People seem to under estimate how close this fight really was. I mean, yes it was true that Morales did deserve the decision- however, there were a number of times when Pacquiao's punches hurt Morales- especially to the body- and if that HEADBUTT (not a punch, haha) had not opened up a brutal cut which poored blood into Pacquiao's eye for SEVEN ROUNDS then it might have been a different ending. (Or might not have)

Nice logic behind those words amigo...I tend to agree with ya
The Fix 03-28-2005, 01:23 AM i thought it was a great fight but i scored it 8-4 morales. but there were some close rounds that could have gone either way
JOM'S 03-28-2005, 01:31 AM no excuses PAC got beat, Erik was just technically and mentally superior that night, but i would love to see a rematch ...
hope you Erik fans would also support a re-match...
any news on Erik's next move??? hope he stays at 130 until the rematch.
adeelr 03-28-2005, 01:39 AM i saw the fight saturday night on the rerun...I scored it 115-114 for Morales, pacqiao deserves a rematch, and the can wear the mexican gloves this time....emanuel steward explained about the gloves, saying that the winner gloves were softer and donot make a clenched fist, but he also added that had they worn the mexican gloves, it was more likely that morales would have knocked out pacqiao intead of pacqiao koing morales.

that's the beauty of it, if they use the reyes gloves on there re-match, we will see a much more explosive, bloodier fight ...
MexicanBoxer 03-28-2005, 02:08 AM it was more likely that morales would have knocked out pacqiao intead of pacqiao koing morales..................thats what i think 2 .
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 03-28-2005, 02:33 AM I wanna see if Morales can hack it at 135 after castillo moves up.
OliverNo1 03-28-2005, 03:17 AM No disrespect to the majority of Pac fans - but the minority are clinging on to any issue which deflects away from the obvious, the obvious being that on the night PAC LOST to a more technically gifted fighter.
This gloves issue is BS - EM was just as likely to win Big with the mexican gloves on, and knowing what a warrior he is i suspect he will use them if they meet again.
PROPS to both guys though.

For my point of view... Gloves is not an issue. The real reason of PCAMAN's defeat is the head-butt.
It is hard to fight a methodical fighter with only 1 eye. But as the PACMAN said: Charge it to experience, Better luck next time.
and next time, the power of the PACMAN will surely show and EM can surely feel it

gloves were not the reason... the headbutt (though it affected pac's gameplan) was also not the reason he lost... actually i was a bit surprised when the three judges scored it 115-113 for morales... i watched as a fan of manny but personally, that fight should have been 1116-112... morales dominated manny... but manny showed his heart and the SUSPECT CHIN everybody has been talking about... now they know manny's chin is tough too... back to the topic... the reason why he lost was murad and roach... murad for all the distractions he places on manny (especially when it comes to finances), and roach for overtraining manny... 160 rounds of sparring is too much... i hope they get it straight the next tie around...

yeah... the fight is a big lesson that will defenitely teach not only Manny, but the whole team Pacquiao(that badly needs a revamp).
xrhythmxnxbluesx 03-28-2005, 03:43 AM headbutt or the gloves were the issues... when i was watching it again pac's eye was already being swollen shut before the headbutt happen... pac fought a great fight he was just not the better man that night...
Sir_Jose 03-28-2005, 06:47 AM If they fight again they will wear Morales' gloves again. He won the fight, he's the much bigger draw Morales is holding all the cards.
chito 03-28-2005, 08:17 AM if i were pacquiao, i'll take my chances with the reyes gloves! let it be.. that morales might ko me first. it's just a matter of who draw the first hard punch! as we all know, pacquiao got round 1 and who knows morales might just be another marquez! there were lots of theories before and after the fight! had it been that reyes gloves were worn by pacquiao, there would be no discussions around here anymore. and u wont hear me say a thing if he lost using that reyes gloves. some people here think that it was not an issue, well, maybe not. but for some (and that includes me), it is! and the headbutt? who doesn't say it didn't affect pacquiao's vision? only some headless poster would think of it that way. this post maybe bias (for all i know, even if i said this isn't, some of you would think of it as it is so i will admit this is my opinion and all opinions are biased).

i guess so, i just hope that Erik stay longer at 130 until, PAC can get his re-match ...

Of course being outboxed contributed nothing to his loss, it was the headbutt, plain and simple. <img>
The cut probably bothered him a little, but if that's enough to cause him to lose a fight, then he needs to haul his happy ass back to Manilla, 'cause he doesn't have what it takes to be a fighter.
Anyway, he was landing the left about as frequently after the cut as he was before....he just happened to be in the ring with someone who could take it, and was the better boxer.
And before the glove-thing comes up here....I could see being annoyed with the glove requirement if he'd only managed to land 1 or 2 big left hands that really shook Morales up, and then was never able to land effectively again throughout the fight, but come on, Manny landed that left of his over and over..Morales just has a great chin. No matter what glove Manny wore, that fight just wasn't going to go his way. And what others have stated is probably true. Had Morales been wearing the Mexican gloves that Pacman wanted, it's more probable that Manny would've been KO'd, not the other way 'round. As many times as Pacman landed that left, if he could KO Morales at all, he'd have done it in that fight.
roXy graziano 03-28-2005, 11:38 AM Holy **** I just saw Pacman/morales on Saturday. That was one of the best fights I've seen in a long time, I really wasn't expecting it to last all the way through the 12th though. I don't think the headbutt is why Pacman lost though honestly but godamn that boy has heart he fought hard even with that going on that must have hurt. mazel tov to my boy morales :boxing:
G-dub 03-28-2005, 12:09 PM Is it me or Freddie Roach didn't knew what to say in pac corner. I've never heard him say "use your jab", wich would have been a good advice.
What do you guys think of Freddie?
bigdlb12 03-28-2005, 01:06 PM i thought it was a great fight but i scored it 8-4 morales. but there were some close rounds that could have gone either way
that sounds about right giving manny round 12, but I feel morales was still strong and could have taken it had he not done what he did, but what a 12th round 8-4 in my score card
dangerousity 03-28-2005, 01:13 PM Gloves and headbutts are not an excuse, it does however factor on the outcome of the fight. Im not saying Pacman would have won, Im saying lets have a rematch and see how it goes without those factors taking into place.
SnoopySmurf 03-28-2005, 02:34 PM A rematch would be great! I hope they both get paid more than the boring-ass heavyweights. About the only exciting thing in the heavies are James Toney, Tua and Norman Stone (who'd not even a boxer). :)

He knew what to say except that the corner was a mess. There was a lot of chaos, everyone was screaming, Roach tried to relay the message but it was hard to get through.

Yah the corner is panaicking too much

It was Buboy who kept screaming after the cut. Lenny Dejesus had to lean over him to work on Manny. It was insane.
SnoopySmurf 03-28-2005, 02:58 PM Pac cut his tongue in the Barrera fight, as well.
I think he needs a new mouth piece. And I swear I could hear him coughing during some of the rounds.

 He already had one custom made.
