The Quiet Family aka Choyonghan kajok
Running time: 98 minutes
Directed by: Ji-woon Kim
Starring: Yun-seong Lee
IMDB rating: 7.1

After being impressed with A Bittersweet Life, I decided to check out one of the director's earlier works. The Quiet Family is about a family who move to the countryside and open up a guest house. Things don't go too well though, as they initally fail to attract any customers. Though someone finally does arrive after a while, when they go to his room the next day they find that he has killed himself.
Just before all of this, the opening scene was Mi-su (one of the daughters) reflecting upon how boring things are. I thought this was a bit weird, like the first few pages of a book being written in first person, then changing to third person and the character not doing much the rest of the story. Or maybe I'm just dissapointed because I thought she was kinda hot and wanted her on screen more, I dunno. She wasn't a 10 or even a 9, but she was pretty cute.
Though I liked it at first, as it went on it got a bit repetitive. The middle portion of the film doesn't have a great deal to offer in terms of plot development. More people end up dead and buried, but that doesn't advance the story much as it's just a continuation of what has already happened.
While watching this I kept thinking of The Last Supper, which also had an accidental death followed by several deliberate ones. There are a lot of differences between the two, but I think TLS is a much better example of how to tell this kind of story, particularly in the areas of character development and sharp dialogue.
This isn't a bad film, it's just that I felt it wore a bit thin the longer it went on. It finished fairly strongly though was a decent watch overall.
