What a fight this would be! Vargas looked a little rusty tonight but hes been out for 15 months, and 160 is not a good weight for him. He belongs at 154 and a fight with Mayorga wold be one hell of a fight.

What do you guys think?

I think Mayorga would kill him.

That would be an awsome fight, and id say mayorga takes it to him and wins! Though it is very unlikely that this will happen. Vargas has already said that he cant make 154 with out starving himself.

It would be a great fight and its sounds like you thought about the fight like I did. I looked at this fight like a warm up for Vargas, he wasn't in perfect condition and just wanted to get some work in.

Everyone is criticizing Vargas but let's wait until we see Mayorga fight again. The beating that Trinidad gave him is something to consider.

Well, supposingly the beating made him better, or so he says.. We'll see him annihalate Garciaon May 21st. Also he would kill Vargas right now.

Exactly, I don't think that Vargas should have been expected to look phenomenal tonight, considering the circumstances surrounding him. He put in a workman like effort, and although he looked rusty he was in against a legit middleweight and beat him. I had it 96-94 for Vargas.

Anyway, back to the topic, I think that boxing fans deserve to see Vargas v. Mayorga! It will be some kinda war!

This would be a crossroads fight for both. With the two styles and badass attitudes both fighters bring to the ring,I couldn't picture this fight being anything but exciting. If this fight does get made,it'l be a automatic Fight of the Year candidate in my book.

Vargas is a warrior. Even if he is done as you say he is, he won't go down with out a fight.

I didn't say he wouldn't. But he is no Spinks, he will not run from Mayorga's rough house tactics. He will take them full on and get annihalated. He's just not what he used to be..

With the defensive style Vargas is using , i think Mayorga will just throw shots till he drops Vargas. Mayorga by TKO KO

154 would be perfect for both of them to fight, neither could handle 160 very good. I

mayorga kills him...varga doesnt move fast enough...mayorga would fire all night and would connect n vargas chin well enough to ko/tko him around middle rounds

i agree wit u 100% Vargas will block/slip Mayorga's early rush then pick his shots out to stop him late or win a majority decision

Vargas is bigger than Mayorga.I think Vargas would get stunned a few times by Mayorga's wild punches, but recover and use his size more to outbox Mayorga over 12rds and win the decision.I can see Vargas stopping Mayorga late with body shots.

I have this matchup 60/40 for Vargas.

Vargas has much more skill than Mayorga. If Vargas can avoid Mayorga's heavy shots, he would win a decision but no way in hell will he stop El Matador.

this would be a great match up.. but i think Mayorga is currently at heavyweight condition..

I also would like to see this fight but after seeing Tito handle Mayorga I think Vargas Would wear down Mayorga's Sloppy ass style with body shots. As much as I love to watch Mayorga any smart enough boxer would you would have to be stupid to trade with Mayorga even Tito dident.

If Vargas is focus I'd go with him Mayarga can't really punch at 154.He hits Mitchell a lot and don't even kd him, so I'll go with Vargas all the way.

We have good chances of seeing this fight materialize cause Vargas said he want the WBC belt of Castillo who is fighting Mayorga next. So if Mayorga beat Castillo we could have a great pay per view war on our hands!

This fight could go 3 ways in my opinion.

1) Mayorga KO's Vargas early, throwing caution to the wind and just blowing him out.

2) Vargas' much-improved defense saves him from being stopped, and he is able to counter enough to win a decision.

3) Vargas' defense saves him from being stopped, but he still loses a decision to the more active Mayorga.

What I definitely do not see happening is Vargas destroying Mayorga.

LOL, fight of the year waiting to happen. I honestly think this will be a very even fight. I havent seen vargas latest fight but based on his past performance compared with Mayorga's, this is a very even fight by 2 crazy warriors!

At 154, I think Vargas would forget about technique after the first couple of rounds against Mayorga and would start to trade with him and get ko'd in the middle rounds. At 160, I think Mayorga's stamina would cause him to lose by decision.

i just dont see vargas winning a fight agains mayorga, i think we all know mayorga can take a punch and well vargas cant, mayorga by ko

The way Mayorga obliterated Vernon Forrest, I'd say Mayorga.

But Mayorga may not be the same guy after the Trinidad fight. Trinidad changed a few marquee fighters : Vargas, Reid and Joppy.

Vargas can box beautifully, like the way he handled Ike Quartey. If he fights like that, he could win by decision. But Vargas has been chinny recently. He was dropped by an over the hill fighter after the Trinidad fight.

Vargas By TKO he will work the body and pick apart Mayorga Very Easily and it will only be a matter of time before mayorga cant continue LATE ROUND TKO STOPPAGE WHATEVER.

i don't get you dudes who say mayo would kill, or for that matter beat vargas. there is NO WAY and i'd put up my brothers house (and if this fight comes off w/ vargas an underdog, you better believe i am) that this indio mayorga w/ his sloppy ass barbaric fighting style could beat vargas. c'mon, vargas would eat him up in the press-conferences - in my mind, probably take mayo's heart and then systematically whoop that ass and PROBABLY stop mayorga late. if mayo doesn't fight at 147 he's not beating anyone elite - okay - MARKETABLY elite. but NO WAY would he beat vargas, no way in hell.

he's exciting kids - but not a world beater. vargas EASY UD - or possible late KO.

Indio...street, Vargas has done nothing for what like five years, he has had three fights with unknown fighters and hasn't looked impressive in any of those fights. I respect that he had to put some work in..but the man is rusty and got shock up a few times on sat.

Eat him up in the press conference? What are you talking about, if you can understand spanish then you know Mayo is a talker. Vargas is gonna talk eat him up? After or before Vargas is crying on camera or with HBO interviews LOL.

Your brothers house? Your riding Vargas from the 90s, he has shown nothing in the last few years...he should keep fighting 36 year olds he wants no part of Mayo. Mayo would walk through whatever he throws and connect to that glass jaw of his and its lights out ala DLH/TITO style...DLH has no power and he KTFO out of Vargas.

Who promotes Vargas? Is this fight even a possiblity?

I would also like to see this fight but I dont share peoples idea that Vargas would win easily, I think if he gets a few more fights under his belt (preferably at 154) then a win would not be out of the question, however, Mayorga has alot of power (especially when not fighting at 160) and a huge chin. Vargas on the other hand has shown a penchant for getting dropped (De La Hoya and twice in the opening seconds against Tito) whereas the only time that Ricardo has hit the deck is after a BRUTAL pounding against Tito, when he had jumped not one, but two, weight classes to fight him. Either guy is going to have a long night ahead of him if he wants to win.

PS- I feel bad saying it but I did chuckle during Vargas' HBO interview...

vargas looked fat at 160 and says he cant get down he lookde slow and didnt ahve a lot of power in his punches

Wow, you're clueless.. "Vargas would eat him uo in the press-conference" <-------are you ****ing kidding me? Mayorga is notorious for his behaviour at press conferences. Did you happen to see Vargas fight Joval? You're acting like such a fanboy...No way in hell, Mayorga took everything Tito threw at him full on, he even gave him free shots..You think this slower, lesser Vargas, would put him out? If this fight ever happens Mayorga would tear into Vargas early, and that will be that.

whowa - big talk from a newbie

i think vargas'll take him in a fight and at press conf's and i'm a fanboy, funny last time i checked, me being boricua i'm by blood supposed to dislike mexican fighters, but thats not the case. i know mayo can talk a good game - most indio's can - but i do know this, that he talked up a good game against vernon and tito - these dudes could never match up to mayos trash talk. the masses know that mayo talks hella ****, but so does vargas. vargas'll talk a mean game get all up in mayo's **** if he crosses the line and not have his heart taken ala vernon or just allow to be shat on ala tito. we all know that vargas doesn't belong at 160 - but even w/ that performance on saturday he'd be able to clean out mayo, mayo's done - vargas still had skill after tito - contrary to mayo who never had skill even b4 tito - like floyd says "easy work" for vargas. what 'chu want boy

Vargas still has skill? Sorry, who did he beat last? Oh wait, no one important... If Mayo is done, I don't know where Vargas is headed.

"vargas'll talk a mean game get all up in mayo's **** if he crosses the line" - is this after he's done crying at his interview?

skill, yes pana ... skill. whens the last time you saw mayo slip a punch, throw a combo or use footwork ... yeah man, you've gotta have skill to do those things and be it as it may, vargas did NOT look phenomenal but he'd bring these tools to a mayorga fight and clean house kid. c'mon ... mayo is the reason there was a SPINKS!!!! and he got blasted out by a 140lber. these 2 fighters ARE very different and can just say that i'd bet any one of you fools that vargas would win. at 154, mayo would find himself w/ another L on his record in a fight against vargas. no debate.

what can i say, vargas is boxing's DMX. dude's a bit emotional ;)

i think he needs to take a few more fights before going to Mayorga cuz he might be a little too much at this stage...vargas needs to be reborn.
