View Full Version : Vargas Should Fight At 154, But Is On The Right Track....
Truth 03-27-2005, 12:01 AM I liked what Fernando did tonight he needed some rounds after 15 months and got them. Also his defensive style he was using was working, if Vargas fights like this he could once again be a champion but at 154. Vargas is not completley shot, I know he was fighting Joval but I saw some good things tonight. Vargas is still young and maybe the loses to Oscar and Trinidad were actually good because it gave him experience and it humbled him.
What do you think?
slavik18 03-27-2005, 12:02 AM I think he has no chance at any weight, against anyone better than Joval.
Truth 03-27-2005, 12:04 AM Did I see a different fight?
slavik18 03-27-2005, 12:06 AM What did you like about Vargas? He was slow, unagressive, and too cautious.
The fight was similar to what I had thought. Vargas looked worse though, compared to how I though he would. I had the fight a whole lot closer than the 1 judge having it 98-92. I had it 96-94 in favor of Vargas. Joval had him in trouble which was not a good sign.
If he fights Tito, he is going to get murdered again. No doubt. This whole Castillejo thing is ridiculous. I think despite his preparedness, he should take a more stern test. Like Felix Sturm who I think he will beat with ease.

I don't even like Vargas but that comment is just plain incorrect slavik18. He can and will do better...but I still don't like him.
Exciterx24 03-27-2005, 12:08 AM He was very rusty but I would not say shot. However, this boxing style does not suit him. He needs to get some of the old style back in. He needs to be similar to the Vargas who beat Campas, Márquez, Wright, Quartey, and gave hell to Trinidad and De La Hoya.
slavik18 03-27-2005, 12:09 AM Ok he called out Mayorga....Honestly, at 154 you think he has a chance? Not from what I saw today. Sure, his former self he has a good chance, now...no way.

But he just came back this was warm up after 15 month layoff with thyroid problems and a buldging disk in his back. We can't really make an accurate assesment off tonights fight.
slavik18 03-27-2005, 12:15 AM Fine, you're right. Though from what I saw TONIGHT.
b-hop21183 03-27-2005, 12:16 AM Some of those shots he landed on joval(175lbs) would have done tremendous damage to a 154 regardless of what any of you say. I will say this though, He needs a JAB
Truth 03-27-2005, 12:21 AM I don't mean to sound like a Vargas fan because I am not but if you even look at the punch stat numbers its clear who won the fight. Maybe its just were not used to watching a tactical El Feroz.
