bridger1 10-26-2009, 11:06 AM i live in the UK and i dont want to spend any more than $70's
what site would you recommend that i buy gloves from?
i dont want the shipping to be rediculously high
Kazaam '85 10-26-2009, 02:03 PM King and top10?... never heard of those gloves before. Sorry man
Pork Chop 10-26-2009, 03:07 PM Top Ten I've heard mixed opinions.
I have a pair from totiro-usa.com and they're okay, but the leather feels kinda cheap.
King are muay thai gloves and one of the few muay thai gloves that I don't think are good for boxing - you'd do much better to go with Twins. The reason for this is that they have a flexible wrist (a flexible glove altogether actually), which is really helpful in the clinch.
The best cheap brands I like right now are:
tufwear - they last a while, well padded
triumph united - the heatseeker's the best winning knock off
american stand up - their sparring glove is the best grant knock off
RightCross94 10-26-2009, 04:46 PM Top ten are pretty good. Their padded headgears (not their rubber ones) are the best headgears I've ever worn.
Phenomkidd 10-26-2009, 05:10 PM As stated, King is a muay thai glove. You should go for Western boxing gloves if thats what you are practicing.
bridger1 10-27-2009, 07:44 AM cheers guys i had noticed that king gloves were longer and allways on muay thai sites, so thanks for confirming it.
pork chop, your on boxing forum aren't you? i read a review on a pair of gloves, cant remember which ones though
Greggy 10-27-2009, 01:22 PM I used top ten gloves when I did an amatuer tournament in Ukraine and I hated them. When U punch hard it feels like U do no damage. But they are great safety gloves dont get me wrong, I use them when I have like a hand injury to prevent more from getting hurt.
My favorite gloves are Everlast

promex gloves are pretty good. they have nice leather and the padding is kinda like the reyes but you do have to break them in longer.
bridger1 10-27-2009, 03:01 PM cheers mate, appreciated
what is the disadvantage of thai boxing gloves in general boxing?
Phenomkidd 10-27-2009, 03:06 PM Less wrist protection/stabilility, palms are more open for catching kicks and clinching, etc.

Don Flamenco 10-27-2009, 05:06 PM Twins pro gloves are used all over Asia for western boxing matches.
Pork Chop 10-27-2009, 05:29 PM pork chop, your on boxing forum aren't you? i read a review on a pair of gloves, cant remember which ones though
yeah i post over there. haven't been doing many reviews lately.
heck, i haven't really been training boxing/muay thai lately either, just doing cardio and weights at gold's.
as far as those king gloves, the leather's almost like rubber.
they fit nice and snug.
you might even like 'em for sparring.
but imho they're not ideal for dedicated boxing training.
Twins and King are basically the same company, but the leather on the gloves is different.
Twins leather feels more normal; the only complaint i've ever heard about them is that they're practically pillows - definitely not a reyes type glove where you're busting people up real easy.
Twins fit real nice when you break them in, the design decision on the kings was to skip the break-in period but it sacrifices some of the stability, support, and possibly longevity of the glove.
as Flamenco said, Twins are used by boxing fights all over asia.
King is the official glove for K1 max, but I do not believe they are used in many boxing events.

what would you say about the quality of triumph and title gloves???

Pro Box = Pro Mex?
ProMex I told you in the email, i hear good and bad - probably not a bad deal for the money, but it is a Title glove.
Title gloves are okay, but the padding isn't really up there with Winning, Grant, or Ringside and the leather is that India/Pakistan (sometimes China) Pu stuff that's real glossy and soft with a broken in feel, but kinda thin and not all that durable. I've had a lot of problems with the ink bleeding out of the leather into my skin with Title gloves.
Triumph, I haven't tried, but I believe their leather is similar to Title. Their padding might be on the level of Ringside (not sure). The design is HEAVILY Winning influenced.
Phenomkidd 10-28-2009, 02:53 PM Pro Box, I think is a UK company.
bridger1 10-28-2009, 02:59 PM yeah i live in the UK and i think you are right
Phenomkidd 10-28-2009, 03:05 PM Yupp it is, checked Sugar Ray's. Probably my favorite UK boxing gear site to look at.
http://www.sugarrays.co.uk/shop/pro-box-boxing-equipment.html
bridger1 10-28-2009, 03:09 PM yeah i was looking on there yesterday, i take it you have bought things on there before then.
have you ever bought anything from http://www.muaythaistuff.com ?
Phenomkidd 10-28-2009, 03:12 PM Nah, shipping would be ridiculos I assume, from UK to US but I've heard only good things about them.
Muaythaistuff is the same, I haven't purchased anything form there, though I may one day soon, but I hear they are decent. Fightstuff is pretty good and probably the first place I'd look to buy only muay thai oriented stuff, I know a guy who works there (might be the owner) and he seems pretty cool and knowledgable.
bridger1 10-28-2009, 03:17 PM sweet man, yeah i was thinking of getting them king gloves i posted from muaythaistuff even though i do regular boxing, but on muaythaistuff there like half the price because it's in dollars

muaythaistuff's shipping is like almost as much as the gloves themselves.
do yourself a favor and go with fightstuff
bridger1 10-28-2009, 05:56 PM thanks for the heads up
bridger1 10-28-2009, 06:22 PM shipping from title to the uk for a pair of pro mex gloves that cost $70 is $52 dollar
bridger1 10-28-2009, 07:11 PM what site is best for buying gloves from???
i dont want to spend more than $70's
bridger1 10-29-2009, 08:26 AM please vote if you have bought from any of these
Pork Chop 10-29-2009, 11:26 AM if i was in the uk, i'd order from either fightstuff or sugarray's - assuming you can find what you're looking for from either store.

i've been looking on american sites because they sell the same pair of gloves for say$60 and british sites sell them for £60
but then the shipping is obviously cheaper
Pork Chop 10-29-2009, 02:29 PM might also want to check ebay
i've seen ridiculously low prices for Reyes gloves on the ebay uk site.
the ebay stores for sites like muaythai-fighting often offer cheaper shipping than from the actual official site.
