NiGe2011 03-26-2005, 02:46 AM I think that Taylor is good, and has a bright future in boxing (even if it might be at Super Middleweight or above) but that he is not quite ready enough to take that last step. I think the 40 year old Hopkins is still just sharp enough to take him out- especially with that greatly underrated beard that Bernard has... I dont know about training him, but perhaps if Hopkins sticks around Golden Boy for long enough he may end up promoting him someday. FuryDragon 03-26-2005, 02:55 AM I think Taylor has the potential to beat Hopkins simply because of his style. I'm confident that Jermain has the style it takes, and since styles generally make fights, he can do it. Taylor's jab is the perhaps the best in the business, and he is exceptionally good at controlling people with it. However, lets say that Hopkins is able to neutralize the jab, which in all honesty is very possible considering William Joppy seemed able to do so. Jermain Taylor was able to adapt and adjust to the situation and task at hand, and defeat Joppy in impressive fashion by using angles, uppercuts, and tight hooks. If you look at this fight with an open mind, with no bias, you'll see that Taylor has the potential to beat Hopkins, while Hopkins has the potential to defeat Taylor. This one could easily go either way. It all depends on who brings their A+ game. I enjoy watching both fighters, and am a fan of each, but I'm rooting for Jermain Taylor. I think he's a positive representation of the sport in his humble, respectful ways, and will easily bring positive attention to a much deserving art in boxing. mexway 03-26-2005, 02:56 AM i have to say i agree i think taylor is gonna rtire hopkins Taylor is gonna rule this division and is hungry he will use his jab to keep hopkins of him and when hopkins attacks he will land some painfull combos that will send hopkins realing i say taylor by well deserved decision NiGe2011 03-26-2005, 03:31 AM I am really not quite as sold on Taylor as you all seem to be. I mean, I love how class he is, I love how young he is, and I especially love that shotgun jab. But more then that I remember the job that Hopkins has done on fighters who I also respected of late (De La Hoya, Joppy, Tito, Eastman, etc...) Enayze 03-26-2005, 11:01 AM The fight is scheduled for July 16 PPV. Taylor by 9th round TKO. Truth 03-26-2005, 11:10 AM The fight is scheduled for July 16 PPV. Taylor by 9th round TKO. I doubt it but anything is possible, the safer predictions would probably be Hopkins 11th round TKO or Hopkins UD. MlLkMan 03-26-2005, 02:26 PM I think Hopkins will keep on running and Taylor chasing him the whole fight. NOFX 03-26-2005, 03:11 PM Hopkins should win the fight, i still think Taylor needs a big fight before he fights Hopkins. Taylor has a lot of potential, but i dont think he'll win against Hopkins. As for Hopkins, i wasn't impressed at all with his fight against Eastman. dino 03-26-2005, 07:14 PM what do you think? taylor retires hopkins in may. then hopkins becomes taylors trainer. or manager. u know whats funny..thats the same thing i was thinking ..taylor will beat hopkins..he and taylor seem cool..so he could train him mic573 03-26-2005, 07:24 PM I think Hopkins will keep on running and Taylor chasing him the whole fight. Hopkins won't run because Taylor doesn't press the action enough. This will be a very tactical battle. Taylor's jab is good no doubt but remember Hopkins jab is also very good. Taylor's righthand can be seen from miles away while Hopkins can use his as a lead or behind the jab especially since Taylor always leaves his left down by his waist. Taylor has much more flaws than Hopkins and hasn't fought good enough opposition in my mind to beat Hopkins. Unless Hopkins gets a little more older and slows down alot more I say Hopkins by decision. aldridge 03-26-2005, 07:58 PM I say Hopkins to win on points. IwatchBoxing 03-26-2005, 08:03 PM Hopkins wins, than Trinidad retires him in Sept or Jan :D . cybernica 03-26-2005, 08:10 PM Hopkins is a pro (one that gets illegal and cheap shots in there). I am going with the pup on this one, Hopkins is done...at least Taylor sticks a jab at you all night! mic573 03-26-2005, 08:28 PM Hopkins is a pro (one that gets illegal and cheap shots in there). I am going with the pup on this one, Hopkins is done...at least Taylor sticks a jab at you all night! What makes your believe Hopkins is done? Clubber Lang 03-26-2005, 09:31 PM Taylor will win. Hes is the best middle-weight right now. Taylor isn't going to let Hopkins fight the kind of fight that Hopkins likes to fight. Taylor will be punching the whole time unlike Eastman who didnt even throw punches. Taylor's punches are going to be way too powerful and accurate for Hopkins. If Hopkins wants to win he is going to have to press Taylor early on, Hopkins won't be able to let Taylor win rounds hoping that the fight will play into his hands in the later rounds. kingmo 03-26-2005, 10:01 PM I think this fight has come a little too early for Taylor... however this is not to say he can't win. I think taylor will dictate the pace and take the fight to Hopkins.. Hopkins has the ability to offset Taylors offense with his better footwork and ring generalship, and will look to counter at every opportunity. The question is whether Taylor can stick to his game plan, press the action enough and stay busy enough to knock Hopkins off his gameplan?? If he can I think there is a very good chance we will see the crowning of a new middleweight king. Ptownz_fynestz 03-27-2005, 12:31 AM i think taylor will come out on top knowin he's tha underdog in this fight borikua 03-27-2005, 12:40 AM I got my money on Taylor... nsevaaetasi 03-27-2005, 08:42 PM I think Taylor's jab will prevent Hopkins from landing his right hook that he lunges at his opponents and that Taylor wins by decision. fightcardproductions 03-28-2005, 02:42 PM Hopkins will school Taylor the way he did Tito. Hopkins will be able to nullify anything Taylor does, Taylor will get frustrated and Hopkins wins a very un-exciting unanimous decision. The experience will help Taylor a great deal and he will become Champ after Hopkins retires. |
