Alright, I thought this would make a nice addition to the History Section, giving fans new and old a list to some of the great fights throughout history, anyone is welcome to add which fights they think are classic fights, it doesn't have to be the highest profile fight or anything like that, it could be a fight fought on an undercard, it could be a clubfight, it doesn't matter. Not sure about the second one but the first one was taped, wasn't that great a fight. Duran should've won, couldn't give Camacho more than 4 rounds.

I would add Evander Holyfield-Michael Dokes

Definitely, a great heavyweight fight.

Tony Quigley vs Tony Dodson was a good fight, there have been a few good domestic fights recently in Britain imo.

I think you already mentioned Cleverly v McCintosh, did you see Appleby vs Lindsay ? that was a real good fight to.

We had Rhodes vs Moore, Simpson vs Truscott, Daws vs Barry Morrison, John O'Donnell vs Craig Watson, Glover all good fights imo.

I actually haven't seen that one yet, surprised that Appleby lost, he looked like he was able to go a level higher before the Lindsay fight, I should get my hands on that one.

Yeah, British boxing has had some really good fights recently, back and forth stuff.

I'm also adding Danny Williams vs Mark Potter and Konstantin Airich, both were very good fights.

It was a really good fight imo, you should deffo watch that if you can get your hands on it. I was shocked to, but having said that Lindsay does have some slick skills, i must say i like you still expected Appleby to win though. Appleby has no regard for defence it seems, he thinks overwhelming you with his aggression & activity is all it takes.

I read about the Williams fight and all the controversy but i never actually watched it yet.

I thought the stoppage was OK, I think Sanchez was actually counted out, but yeah, you could make the case that Sanchez was in front at the time of the stoppage. Maybe you were thinking of the Jose Celaya fight where Celaya was arguably outboxing Chavez but quit when he went down in the 8th.

Yeah, that's the one. I remember asking after the fight whether Morrison fought at all, apparently the Mexican commission refused to allow him to fight on TV or something so they had him fight after the show went off the air I think.

It was a very good fight, good back and forth exchanges, Chavez took quite a lot of shots and might have been behind on the cards but was doing damage himself until he got to Sanchez.

It was a good heavyweight fight with or without the controversy but yeah, there was quite a bit of controversy for the fight, it was clearly stacked against Williams but he overcame that and won anyways.

if juan was working on his body more he'd porbaly would had stop gomez, he needs o get in the gym more often as well plus i don't think welterweight is the perfect clast for him

I think if he had picked his punches better he could of as well and when the cut happened to Gomez he went to the body less and less. I don't think he would of stopped him but he might of wore him down enough to take the ;ast few rounds and win the fight, Gomez's punches had more finesse but Juan's were just as effective and were heavier IMO and it was a dead even fight. You hit the nail on the head about welter not being the right class for Juan.

Brian Viloria vs Ulises Solis

I think that is a FOTY candidate, the pace of that fight was FAST and their were a lot of ebbs and flows to the action. I thought Solis was going to lay a bad one on Viloria but Brian charged out there and was absolutely relentless and the knockout was great. The other thing I remember is how electric the crowd was during that fight.

The co-main event was somewhat dissapointing though, I didn't see Martinez winning but I thought he would do better than he did, it was more due to how good Donaire was but it was still an anti-climatic way to end the evening.

Yeah, it was definitely a FOTY candidate and I also expected Solis to win the fight but Viloria has made a lot of improvements and stayed focused for the duration of the fight. The knockout was a brilliant, rolled the shoulder back a little, left Solis open and then blasted him with the right hand, very nice stuff.

Yeah thats where European technical ability can work against you, its predictable and methodical, it can make you very conventional and easier to read.

My own style was always based on good balance & fluid movement like Muhammad Ali & Terry Norris for the balance. I fight/fought more like a typical American fighter, lots of upperbodymovement and fluidity.

True true, I've always held the belief that a top class American fighter would normally beat a top class European boxer just because the American style is not nearly as predictable and one dimensional as the European boxing style.

I always thought of myself as a sharpshooter, two or three punches then step around on the outside, head movement and stuff like that. Didn't really like to fight on the inside because I have relatively long arms but if I could if I was forced.

I watched Kessler vs Ward on a live stream, which is as you know is never the same as watching it in DVD format. I downloaded it in DVD format and watched it back earlier. What stuck out to me the most despite the obvious speed disparity between the two was that Ward seemed not to be able miss Kessler in this fight. If Ward would overshoot his punches he would still land by following up because Kessler goes straight back in a line and stands to tall. If you watch what combination's that where most effective for Ward they were when he would throw a jab and a right hand then when/if he fell short with the right hand he would not pull out he would follow that up with an upjab that would catch Kessler on the tail end because he always pulls out straight and on the line. This happened repeatedly. I knew Kessler pulled back in straight lines but i was not aware that Ward would make it play into his advantages so much in this type of way.

Yeah I noticed that too, Ward would perhaps miss with his first 2 punches but the third would land when Kessler was trying to step away, good stuff from him. He'd then either smother Kessler or get out of the way of anything coming back by moving out of range, overall he showed some really good maturity in that fight apart from 1 round later in the fight where he got a little crazy but even then Kessler couldn't take advantage which surprised me.

Yeah, I posted the Ramos fight earlier. Definitely a war. Even though Ramos won every round Perez was in there every round.

I felt that the Honorio-Molina fight was pretty good but the action was relatively one sided, the fight was dramatic because of Molina's power but apart from that the action was pretty one way, that's why I didn't mention it.

Who did you have winning?

Also, how did you score Nashiro-Cazares?

I had Martinez winning 114-113, scored the first round even 9-9 (I know 10 point must but I'm just a little loose with it).

I don't remember my exact scorecard but I had Nashiro edging it because of the big last round he had, close fight that was.

I had pretty much the same score for Martinez-Williams, but I gave Martinez the extra point to make it 115-113.

Nashiro-Cazares was a pretty close fight, but I found myself favoring Nashiro in most of the swing rounds. My final tally was 116-112 in his favor.

So I'll add some fights that were already listed in another thread to start things off. Thanks to the posters who contributed to the other thread. Hopefully this thread gains steam and keeps active.

Very true man, the ending to that fight was like straight out of a movie, both men winging away with both hands and then the KO out of nowhere.

To be honest, I was thinking about making the round 10-9 Williams just prior to Martinez dropping him. I thought Martinez was off balance and the shot he got hit with wasn't hard and was grazing. However, Martinez had cracked Williams with three or four hard shots before the KD, which would've made it 10-9 Williams, in my eyes.

I thought Cazares didn't jab nearly enough. He pretty much threw lead hooks and crosses. Some landed, but for the most part were getting either picked off or countered by Nashiro. When he jabbed he was more successful and when he was able to back Nashiro up, he (Nashiro) was uncomfortable.

Cazares threw more, but to my eyes, his shots weren't as clean or hard as Nashiro's. Nashiro was making his shots count IMO, and Cazares began to wane over the championship rounds. He nearly had him out of there in the 12th. Nashiro's performance over the last three rounds is what sealed it for him on my card.

Understandable, Martinez won the rest of the round outside of the knockdown and then he knocked Williams down himself so as I said, if anyone deserved the extra point in the first it should've been Martinez.

Yeah, that's the way Cazares fights though, he isn't really a jabber, likes to lead with hooks and uppercuts while switching stances but he would definitely be more effective with more jabs. And I agree with you about Nashiro sealing it with his late round dominance, those were big rounds for him.

I didn't think it was too far off, I had Pascal winning 116-112. Diaconu was just doing nothing for long periods and Pascal was landing the better punches throughout. However, I feel that Diaconu let the fight slip away from him this time around, he could've done so much more with Pascal's right shoulder being the way it was.

As a sidenote, Guy Jutras was actually a pretty good judge.

Anyway i was very impressed with Pascal, what a heart he showed. I dont wanna be too negative but i cant help think that his warrior heart is gonna get him trouble in the future.

Pascal has shown that under all that flash he has a heart of a warrior and he's become a better fighter lately, he's stopped trying to be a Roy Jones wannabe and has fought under his own style a bit more now which has made him much more effective. I tend to agree with you though, the way he throws caution to the wind could derail him. It actually almost did when he fought Branco, got shook up by a right hand in that one.

Victor Galindez vs Richie Kates 1 - Galindez fought through a horrible cut that opened up in round 3 due to an accidental headbutt, it didn't stop bleeding for the entire fight, his trunks had blood on them, Kates' white trunks tuned partially red, Christodoulu's shirt had blood on it, one of the bloodier fights I've seen. Kates also fought a very courageous fight later on when Galindez started taking over, showing very good heart.

This was also the first and only fight where I've seen the '5 minute rule' where the corner of a fighter cut by an accidental headbutt had 5 minutes to work on the cut. Everyone thought the fight was over and photographers swarmed the ring only having to clear out when they found out the fight wasn't over.

Robinson himself landed 423 or something. Most of the shots landed from Holiday were body shots, Holiday wasn't the same after this fight IMO. He didn't look good against Taliaferro in his next fight and then subsequently lost to Mosley.

Clarence 'Bones' Adams vs Paulie Ayala 1 - Tit for tat action throughout the fight, when one guy would do something, the other would respond in kind. Close fight with close rounds but I thought Adams won, Ayala ended up winning a SD, Ayala had Adams hurt pretty bad in the 2nd, Adams also suffered a pretty bad cut later in the fight from an accidental headbutt, Adams hurt both hands early in the fight.

Satoshi Hosono vs Hiroyuki Enoki - Possibly the best all Japanese fight of 2009 (I thought Cazares-Nashiro was a better fight that was fought in Japan but Cazares is Mexican), good 2 way action, both guys fought through pretty bad swelling on their eyes and both were stunned or hurt at various points of the fight.

Enoki's fight with Chris John was a good one too, an interesting clash of styles but Enoki couldn't keep the pace he set early and John took over though it was competitive throughout. I remember Enoki's eyes swelled grotesquely in that fight as well, and John ended up getting like 70 stitches for a cut under his eye. Good show of powerpunching from Enoki then a good show of boxing by John.

Hosono took over as the fight went on too, Enoki might have some stamina problems where it seems like he fades a little as his fights wear on. Enoki-John was indeed a pretty good fight.

Pedro Decima vs Kiyoshi Hatanaka - Hatanaka down in the first and got a pretty bad cut in the fight but had Decima 4 times in the 4th, once in the 7th and once in the 8th to finally stop the fight, in between in round 6 Decima had Hatanaka stunned. Very good fight.

Jamie Moore vs Michael Jones 3 - Moore down early only to come back and knock Jones down and out, good back and forth action, I think Moore broke Jones' nose in the fight, Jones' nose got broken quite a few times in his career.

I enjoy that fight more than Benn's fight with McClellan, every punch in that fight was clean and sharp and the oace they set in the early rounds was really incredible. That was the best form of Eubank that I think ever fought.

I remember (I might of started it actually) a thread a few months back about overrated fights and someone said that they thought Benn-McClellan was overrated and that thought the punches throught the whole fight were really awkward. Soon afterwards I went back and watched and he was right, I'd just never noticed. The guy basically tainted my view on one of my favorite fights. Either was Benn's fights with Eubank (the first one) and Watson are still great. There is a guy on another forum I post on that says the second Benn-Eubank fight was better than the first one, but from everything I heard it wasn't that great fight. I haven't actually seen it yet so I can'y say, maybe you could give me your opinion on it.

Juan Manuel Marquez-Julian 'The Dealer' Wheeler- A young Marquez takes on the quick, slick Wheeler, very close fight, Marquez shows good balance, combination punching, power and aggression in this fight and it all meshes well with Wheeler's style. Marquez has him rocked more than once in the fight, Marquez down late in the fight off of a right hand but it was ruled a slip and the stoppage was pretty bad, Wheeler was standing and moving with only ten or so seconds left on the clock. Wheeler showed some nice skills in this fight, confusing Marquez with his boxing and movement and this really was the blue print fight for how to beat Marquez because Marquez looked lost at times when Wheeler was on his toes and moving.

Excellent little ten-round fight.

I don't think it was as good as the first one, it was a more technical, tactical fight from both guys. Benn used his new found boxing skills to be very effective in the fight. Most people, including myself, thought Benn won the fight but it ended up being a draw.

The crowd was great for the rematch though, as it was for the first fight, and the anticipation might have been even higher than it was for the first one because of how good the first one was and because of what they both went on to achieve before fighting again.

Excellent little ten-round fight.

I always thought the stoppage in the last round was a little quick, I thought Wheeler was just getting his legs back under him when the referee stopped the fight. Marquez was behind on the cards by the way and I believe he needed a stoppage to win.

In Jin Chi vs Michael Brodie 1 - Brodie cut in the first from an accidental headbutt, knocked down in the second but came back in a big way, thrilling 2 way action. Chi stunned in the 4th by a big right hand, Brodie hurt in the 5th by a barrage of Chi punches, Chi stunned again in the 6th. Chi took some huge shots throughout the fight, the type of shots that would snap his head back. Talk about a see saw battle. One of those fights where I have no problem with the result being a draw, neither one deserved to lose.

Rivero scored a flash knockdown and managed to cut Estrada twice, this was supposed to be a relatively easy fight for Estrada but Rivero put up a great effort. Bad, bad stoppage though which made it anticlimactic.

Hasim Rahman vs Corrie Sanders - A very good heavyweight fight, both men down in the 3rd, arguably both down in the 4th but only Sanders got a count, then good action from both men with Rahman stopping Sanders in the 7th. Good stuff.

Chartchai Chionoi vs Efren Torres 1 - Very good fight with very good two way action. Torres cut early but seemed to take control of the fight as it wore on, closing one of Chionoi's eyes in the process, Chionoi was hurt by a left hook from Torres, Torres didn't seem to be able to miss with the left hook. Torres was ahead on the cards when the fight was stopped and rightly so. Ring magazine ranked this as one of the best championship fights of all time.

Excellent choices, I think Micheal Spinks gets underrated as far as how exciting he was at times, his fights with EMM, Qawi and especially Lopez were some very entertaining back and forth fights.

Khaosai Galaxy's two wars with the aggressive brawler Kenji Matsumura are probably his most entertaining performances and well worth a watch, in both fights it was his strength and power that were the deciding factors but Matsumura put on brave performances in both.

Sun-Kil Moon's fight with Matsumura as well was entertaining and shaping up to be a great battle but it was cut short by a cut.

Paulus Moses' FOTY candidate last year (or the year before) against Yusuke Kobori was an excellent fight and really showcased his skills. It was close at times and Kobori was able to get his right hand home on numerous occasions especially through the first half but Moses had too much skill for him an took over down the home stretch for the most part.

Ernesto Zepeda-Omar Bernal was a knockdown, dragout brawl on Solo Boxeo a few years back. Not a lot of skill shown but as far as entertainment goes it didn't get much better and it ended with an excellent KO.

I thought the recent Andy Morris vs Gary Sykes fight was very good, not the best action fight out there but it had some nice ebbs and flows and had good action throughout. It could end up being one of the better British domestic fights of 2010.

You're right about Augustus rarely being in a bad fight, more one sided than this one but one I enjoyed was Kid Diamond handling Emmanuel, more high workrate and Diamond really did look class in this fight as opposed to his next fight which was a good slugfest with Miguel Angel Huerta which he clearly lost to the bigger man but got a gift decision. Both were good fights an both are worth a watch IMO.

The Diamond fight was OK too, I was surprised at how easily Diamond beat Augustus, expected it to be a tougher fight for him.

That was my first look at Diamond, I remember it was at the time that Diamond's hype machine was in full swing and the commentators kept saying that he should get another big fight and me being somewhat ignorant of his quality I bought into it because he had the Kostya-like style and look to him and looked like a big puncher and when he threw over 1000 punches in that fight I really thought he was the real deal. The comes his fight with Huerta and he gets the **** beat out of him in a fight that I thought he was going to dominate. After that I thought Huerta was the real deal and going to go on to do bigger things and he gets beat by a faded Javier Juaregi, almost KO'd by a journeyman fighter who I never saw fight after that and handled by Alvarado. Not to mention Augustas looked really good against Courtney Burton on an ESPN card not to long before the Diamond fight.

That series of fights really sticks out in my mind just because it so perfectly illustrated how a certain can look really good against the right opponent and look awful in their next fight, it all seemed very odd to me how everyone of them turned out.

Also at the moment I'm watching Matthew Saad Muhammad against Jerry Martin, doesn't have the drama of Muhammad's fights with Lopez or Johnson but it is still a very entertaing war between two offense oriented fighters.

As you said, that perfectly illustrates how boxing works.

Saad was another one of those fighters who was rarely ever in a boring fight. One of the most consistently entertaining fighters I've ever seen.

Azumah Nelson vs Jeff Fenech 1 & 2 - Both fights were really good for different reasons. Fenech-Nelson 1 was a fight fought at close range along the ropes for almost the entire fight with some great display of in fighting from both fighters, Nelson was coming off a bout of malaria and I believe he had elbow surgery not long before the fight, the fight ended in a controversial draw.

The second fight was fought more at long range but had moments on the inside as well, Nelson knocked Fenech down in the 1st and questionably in the 2nd, Fenech made a comeback in rounds 3, 4 and 5 though before getting hurt again in the 6th, Nelson then finished him in the 8th. Big difference in this fight was that Nelson was arguably getting the better of Fenech on the inside unlike in the first fight where it was the other way round.

Both were very, very good fights.

Paul Banke vs Ki-Jun Lee - The fight started at a fast pace with Lee coming forward and throwing leather a mile a minute while Banke picked his spots and landed the cleaner shots, Banke's right eye started closing in the early middle rounds and became completely closed as the fight wore on, Banke looked like he was battered and beaten while Lee seemed to take control behind his non stop punching but ultimately it was Lee's non stop punching that lost him the fight as he got very tired in the championship rounds and Banke was able to capitalize on it by knocking Lee down in the 11th and 12th before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. Banke displayed a lot of heart and good skills that made him popular in the California fight scene and Lee showed incredible stamina until the last few rounds, showing his lack of experience in pacing himself, the guy wouldn't stop throwing punches. Lee's left eye was also almost completely closed by the time the fight was stopped.

Going into the last round 1 judge had Banke in front, 1 had it even and 1 had Lee in front.

Paul Banke vs Ramiro Adames - Back and forth from the opening round. Adames down 3 times in the fight, Banke cut. Good old fashioned war at the Forum. Adames was a Panchito Bojado lookalike. :lol1:

I have a HL of that fight and it really is pretty incredible too watch, wish I could find the full fight though.

I know there's a copy of it out there somewhere, it's definitely a hard fight to find though.

It's very hard to find. I hadn't seen it and so after your first post about it Silencers, I went looking everywhere and couldn't find it.

If anyone has this fight, put it up!

Bob Satterfield vs Bob Baker - Very good 1 round heavyweight fight, they started exchanging big bombs not long after the opening bell, Baker hurt Satterfield and had him backed against the ropes only for Satterfield to hurt and put down Baker for the count.

Satterfield was in something similar with Clarence Henry but he was the one who got stopped on that occasion. Even though the referee didn't count, Satterfield knocked Henry down and wobbled him but then Henry came back and unleashed a vicious attack on Satterfield that had Satterfield down 3 times.

One of the better technical scraps I've seen and my second favorite display of Harold Johnson's skills, next to the fifth Archie Moore fight.

This fight was just a straight up brawl, if you like action fights it doesn't get any better than this one.

Another good one that I don't think is on YT is the Steve Murray-Martin Watson scrap that was on ShoBox a few years back, doesn't have near the skill of either of the two fights above but a damn good fight all the same.

David Izon vs Darroll Wilson - Izon hurt badly and got a standing 8 count in the first round, he was lucky referee Steve Smoger gave him a standing 8 because he was almost out on his feet. Round 2 was the calmest round of the fight with both fighters having good moments, round 3 became a slugfest between the two, Wilson went down but got back up and fought back valiantly and might have stunned Izon again. Wilson got battered in round 4 and ultimately stopped after Izon nailed him with a right hand. Good heavyweight fight.

Hugo Cazares vs Nobuo Nashiro 2 - One of those fights where the scorecards don't indicate how good the fight was with 2 officials turning in scores of 117-111. Cazares basically threw more and landed more while Nashiro threw less but still landed his own big shots. This was a good technical display on offense, on defense not so much. A FOTY candidate.

Yeah, it's been added.

Bowe has been in quite a few of those you have to see it to believe it fights, the Tillery fight because of the kicking and the flip over the top rope, the second Holyfield fight because of the Fan Man, the two Golota fights because of the riot and the low blows.

You listed so many good fights it's hard for me to think of others lol. But one you mentioned stands out in my mind Frankin(Saad Muhammad)-Kates. The then Franklin was face down and looked out cold after being dropped by Kates. I still don't know how he got up and went on to stop Kates. I have that one and many of Saad Muhammad fights recorded. That is an underrated fight.

Kalambay knocked down twice in the second, came rallying back, Kalambay stunned again in the third but came back to hurt Graham in the second half of the round, Graham deducted one point in the 4th or 5th for spinning Kalambay, Kalambay won the next few rounds but then Graham came back with some very good counterpunching to win the later rounds in my eyes. The fight was on the line to me going into the 12th where Kalambay had a big rally and hurt Graham again, Kalambay was aided by some weird refereeing where Graham was deducted another point for nothing that I could see. Yeah, that was Sahaprom's last good performance. He had already slipped quite a bit by that stage, comparative to his earlier brilliance, as he was getting up there in age. I think he was about 37 in that fight.

Great fight though, and took whatever was left in Sahaprom out of him.

McWilliams Arroyo vs Takashi Okada - A very good fight on the undercard of the Calderon-Iribe card between 2 prospects. Fast pace from the beginning, hard punches landed from both boxers, Arroyo down in the second round and wobbled badly, he was also cut in the third. These guys were really hungry and let the leather fly in the ring.

As Rich Marotta said, this could be prelim fight of the year.

That was a good one!! And a bit of a shocker when you consider how people were talking about Arroyo.

Yeah, Arroyo still can do something in this sport, without the knockdown he might have won the fight. Both of those guys have potential, Okada is a bit more raw though, he was just relentless in the fight.

DLH-Chavez 2 was a good one, that was like Chavez' last stand but he was just too old and too small to keep up with DLH.

Definitely. As far as pure action, i would have to go with Foreman/Lyle, Ali/Frazier III, Toney/Jirov, Norton/Holmes, Leonard/Lalonde, Gatti/Ward, Vasquez/Marquez ect. There's a lot to name :)

Vito Antuofermo vs Eugene 'Cyclone' Hart - Hart started off the fight well and seemed to stun Antuofermo in the second round but Antuofermo fought back, from that point on the rough and tough Antuofermo started wearing Hart down, he hurt Hart badly in the 4th and almost had Hart out of there but Hart gallantly fought back and landed some big shots himself. Hart came out in the fifth looking like he knew he had to make a stand but it wasn't enough, he eventually went down twice and got counted out. Don Dunphy said during the fight that the fight was turning into a war of attrition which was exactly what it had become, not many people beat Vito Antuofermo in a war of attrition.

Antuofermo was known to get cut up and this fight was no different, Antuofermo got cut pretty bad over the right eye and seemed to get a cut on his right ear.

Alex Leapai vs Travis Walker - Walker down in the opening seconds of the first and hurt multiple times in the round, fought back well, hurt again in the second but then hurt Leapai in the same round then got hurt again towards the end of the round. Again, both hurt in round 3, Walker early in the round but Leapai looked like he was running out of gas halfway through the round and got knocked down by Walker. Leapai was badly hurt at the end of the third. Leapai did not look recovered in the fourth and Walker was battering him with punches for 2 minutes of the round when out of nowhere Leapai trapped Walker on the ropes and landed some big shots that convinced the referee to stop the fight. The stoppage was quick though and Walker's corner went crazy.

Walker was the more skilled fighter but almost every shot that snaked through his guard hurt him, he can't take a good shot. It could be the best heavyweight fight so far this year, actually it might be one of the fights of the year period.

Jung Koo Chang vs Hideyuki Ohashi 2 - Rematch of a pretty one sided fight which Chang won 2 years prior, Ohashi had made improvements though while Chang might have been a step slower than he was. First 2 rounds were not too eventful but the fight really picked up in the third where Chang managed to knock Ohashi down 3 times and open a cut on Ohashi, improbably Ohashi hurt Chang badly at the end of the round when Chang was going for the finish. Chang didn't look fully recovered in the fourth but he just kept punching and kept moving forward while Ohashi managed to pepper Chang a bit when Chang was on the way in. The fifth was an all action round with both fighters punching away at each other, Chang seemed to get back the strength of his legs towards the end of the round though and came out more measured in the sixth, leaving less openings for Ohashi. Chang asserted himself in the 7th by knocking Ohashi down twice more even though he was buzzed by a left hook from the Japanese challenger. Ohashi tried to show Chang that he was recovered at the beginning of the 8th round and came out aggressively, landing some big shots in the process but Chang wasn't phased and came back at Ohashi, knocking Ohashi down two more times before the referee stopped the fight.

Chang was the one with all the knockdowns in this fight but he was forced to dig deep at points where it did look like he was in jeopardy of losing his title. Great fight.

Didn't know that wasn't on the list otherwise I would have mentioned it. Have you got his other one up there? Chang's that is? Can't remember who it was against....but he's had many great fights. His wars with German Torres were all great, but there was one other one that is literally as good as any fight you'll see, including Gatti/Ward.

What's the other guys name? Any help here?

Are you talking about his final fight with Muangchai Kittikasem? That was also a great fight with back and forth action, Chang dropped Kittasem twice in the 5th and once in the 11th, but then got knocked out in the last 30 seconds of the 12th round when he thought he had Kittikasem on his last legs.

All this happened in 1 round, fun little war.

Oscar Andrade vs Roman Valadez - A brawl between 2 guys with 1-0 records on the recent Fight Night Club show, part of the reason why it's good for prospects to fight each other is because they normally give it their all to ensure that they don't lose their 0 and they are young enough to throw caution to the wind. John Conteh vs Chris Finnegan 1 - Not really the most action packed fight but a very good one in terms of skills, both of these guys were very well skilled boxers and they displayed all of their skills in this fight. It was a pretty evenly contested bout for about 10 rounds but Conteh started taking over in the last 5 with his conditioning. Finnegan stayed in there though and battled hard.

The storylines outside the ring were quite fascinating too. Finnegan was the British and Commenwealth champion having went a grueling 14 rounds with world champion Bob Foster a year prior, Conteh was the European champion and even though Conteh was the European champion he was regarded as the up and comer compared to the well respected 1968 gold medalist. Conteh had the playboy, flashy image outside of the ring and Finnegan was the more down to earth character. All this led to a very big buildup to the fight, and the fight didn't disappoint.

Ken Norton vs Randall Cobb - A very good heavyweight fight between the ultra tough Cobb and the veteran Norton. Norton surprising fought off the ropes for a large part of the fight, Cobb threw a lot of punches but faded a bit down the stretch which made Norton get more aggressive. Both of them took quite a bit of punishment because Norton was not a guy who fought off the ropes well, which allowed Cobb to get his punches through and Cobb wasn't what you'd call a good defensive fighter and took some big shots from Norton.

Great turnaround in a 1 round fight.

Bernard Razzano vs Laurent Boudouani - Not really a war, just a big come from behind victory for the underdog in Razzano, Razzano got battered for the better part of 4 rounds, getting knocked down twice in the process and had one of his eyes swelling shut. But Boudouani started getting tired and Razzano started landing his own shots starting from the 5th, Boudouani didn't look like he was in too much trouble in the 6th but then seemed to hit a wall in the middle of the 7th and never recovered, Razzano pressed the action, sensing the opportunity to upset the European Champion which got the crowd roaring which didn't help Boudouani because the referee failed to hear the bell and Boudouani got hit by 5 or 6 clean power shots with his hands down before the referee noticed the bell. Boudouani had not recovered by the 8th and was basically thrown to the floor and got up on very unsteady legs which prompted his corner to step onto the apron to get the referee to stop the fight.

Juan Manuel Lopez vs Bernabe Concepcion - Just a fun fight, Lopez in control for most of round 1 scoring a knockdown along the way before getting hit and put on the canvas himself. Put Concepcion down twice more in the second to stop the fight.

No, not that one. I find that fight really sad. Chang had it won, was going to be his last fight anyway supposedly, and he blew it in the last 30 seconds! Would have been a great win too in another division. Tragic. He was such an amazing fighter. Skill, will, power, aggression....and a ****eload of great fights.

But, this other fight is easily up there for the greatest L.Flyweight fight of all time with Gonzalez/Carbajal 1. Pick and choose. Both are brilliant and just as good as each other. Christ I wish I could remember who it was.....

Once again though: Get this thread stickied BS!

Then I'm really not too sure Benny, Chang was definitely involved in some great fights in his career. I don't think he was ever in a bad one.

Jorge Paez vs Tracy Spann - This was a very good, all action fight between the long, rangy, big punching Spann and the smaller, aggressive Paez in an elimination bout for the right to fight Pernell Whitaker. Paez' defense wasn't good in this fight and Spann really didn't have good defense, so it made for a very good fight.

They basically went at it from the opening bell, Spann trying to use his height and reach while Paez came forward, Paez got knocked down and was pretty badly hurt in the 3rd round from a right hook from Spann, but Paez was smart and spit out his mouthpiece, the referee didn't notice it right away but it did buy Paez a few seconds when he was still not fully recovered. The knockdown seemed to wake Paez up though and he started putting more pressure on Spann, eventually hurting Spann in the sixth when the referee deducted a point from Paez for using his left arm to measure Spann. Paez got cut in the seventh. Paez managed to get inside and land repeatedly on Spann in the last 3 rounds, but Spann was always in there landing his own good shots.

I thought the referee, Terry Smith, was on Paez' case too much in this fight, warned him for a lot of things and took a point away when Paez had Spann in obvious trouble while he let Spann get away with lots of low blows.

Rafael Ruelas vs Jorge Paez - The fight was billed as a war between the 21 year old, up and coming Ruelas facing the biggest test of his career so far in Paez, who was smaller and might have seen better days. The fight lived up to the billing with both guys coming out to center ring and trading punches from the opening bell, you would expect the smaller, more experienced, shorter armed Paez to have the advantage on the inside but that wasn't the case as Ruelas used a very high workrate and crisp combinations, showing very good inside fighting skills. Ruelas managed to knock Paez down twice in the first round with beauatiful uppercuts that had Paez looking confused. It was basically the same thing, Paez coming forward behind a cross armed defense with Ruelas keeping a very high workrate and standing his ground, trying to push Paez back, until the fourth round where Paez managed to hurt Ruelas pretty badly, Ruelas managed to weather the storm and get away from harm's way, Paez was going to follow up but right at that moment, the referee decided to halt the action for Paez to get his mouthpiece replaced which bought Ruelas some valuable time to recover.

It became a longer range fight in round 6 where Ruelas managed to work well behind his jab and he seemed to take the fight away from Paez from round 7 because Paez didn't seem as willing to engage anymore. Paez, bruised, battered and cut was stopped in his corner after the 10th round.

I really like these old Forum Boxing fights.

Giovanni Segura vs Ivan Calderon - It's a shame this fight didn't get that much coverage, not only from the mainstream media, which is understandable but from the boxing media as well, a lot of sites decided that the whole Toney/MMA thing was more newsworthy. They were wrong.

A unification fight between two of the best 108 pounders in the world, the fight started off seemingly going to plan for Calderon, who managed to use the 24 foot ring to outbox the onrushing Segura but amidst all the jabs and movement of Calderon, Segura was wearing the older Calderon down by focusing almost exclusively to the body. It all seemed to build up on Calderon in the 5th round where he had to rest for breathers while Segura kept punching away at him punctuated with a slip that could've been called a knockdown. Calderon's legs never completely recovered from that onslaught and even though he tried to stay off the ropes he never had the legs to stay off them for long periods of time. His last stand came in the 7th where he managed to outbox Segura but the older man with the older legs couldn't keep it up and it ended with him on his knee after another onslaught from Segura in the 8th.

Might be one of the leading candidates for FOTY for 2010.

A sidenote, those commentators on the Integrated Sports PPV were very biased for Calderon, didn't recognize Segura for a lot of work he was doing.

I felt bad for him too. A guy whose heavy hands are his main attribute and he can scarcely lay a grazing shot on his opponent for the entire fight, getting scuffed up like he was. The fact that he was the linear champion, and young, and getting completely embarrassed...just a must-see performance.

Junior Jones vs Orlando Canizales - Maybe not the most action packed fight but good fight with lots of skills displayed between the two fighters. Junior Jones was hailed as the predecessor to Orlando Canizales when Canizales was considered the best 118 pounder in the world and when Jones was one of the hottest prospects in boxing. Unfortunately they never fought when they were both nearer their best. Nevertheless, it was a very good fight, Jones using his reach on the outside to outbox Canizales, Canizales came forward as the aggressor, both guys got wobbled a couple of times in the fight and it was a high workrate affair with, again, very good skills shown. One of the best fights in 1996. It was unlucky to be on the undercard of Arturo Gatti vs Wilson Rodriguez which overshadowed this bout.
