boxing is IMO is in a complete mess as far as populartiy throughtout the world is concerned.
the biggest crowds these days are 20 thousand and thats ricky hattons lot
years ago there were crowds of 100,000
and with the arrival of mixed martial arts could it become a more and more loss popular sport

what do you think boxing need to get it back as the main sport of the world were fights had political signifacne or countrys watched to see to warrior go the distance toe to toe only standing because they knew there country was watching, waiting and expecting

Most men are just **** now, i hate to say it but the worlds going soft.

Soccer is too big and that the main problem in the UK. I dont understand why people would rather watch men kick a ball around than watch the most natural sport in the world. Boxings a mans sports and these girly puffs cant cope anymore!!

i think boxing is going to make a comeback, it really seems to be having a popularity boost recently. now with hockey gone the owners are going to want to fill the seats and they could do that wit title fights. i say by next year if hockey aint back boxings demand will increase.imo boxing has more fans than hockey but with all the sanctioning bodies boxing has become less organized.

Boxing does not need more naive fans. It is bad enough having to listen to these "weekend" boxing watchers and analysts talk about things like:

"say chip: when is that Oscar De La Soto going to fight again"

I was at a party about a year ago, and this redneck and I were talking about boxing........I asked him:

Me: who do you like in the heavyweight division?

Him: I like Tyson and That Chris Byrd guy.

Me: I like Byrd too, as unexciting as he is.

Him: WHAT what are you talking about? he is a real man! I love watching him knock people out! he is great! I like Muhammed Ali because he punched so hard.

I wanted to break my bottle of Corona over his ignorant face.

boxing does not need any more "fans".

I just take it as disrespectful to those of us who eat, breathe and sleep boxing. Like those fugwads who never watch football

but are so sure the patriots are going to the superbowl.

in other words: Tyson fans.

My ex girlfriend knows dick about boxing, but if you ask her:

Tyson K.O. 1 etc. B.S.

Maybe these boxing reality shows will help pick it up. The contender has been doing well and its enjoyable to watch. I think MMA is coming up though especially with there reality show MMA dont suck but I dont think I would ever enjoy it more than boxing.

I like watching football... But being an avid boxing fan, and for example - seeing the courage displayed, and how Pacquaio and Morales fought through adversity on a saturday night, too going down the pub on Sunday and watching some footballer roling around on the floor in agony (Like he's just had his foot shot off with a shot gun!) just coz' he got a little tap on the ankle!!! - only to get up like nothings happened1 minute later!

Is kinda .... Uurrgggghhhh!...

I can't think of the word?

I watched the Morales Pacman fight at a friend of a friends house and me and my friend were the only ones who knew who any of the people fighting were. For the most part everyone was cool though. Asking a lot of questions which I was happy to answer. But there was one guy who was so freaking loud and stupid. Saying that almost every round went to Pacquiao. And he's from Guyana! That the HBO people are all biased for the Mexican guy. It kinda took a little something off the fight. I still enjoyed it tremendously. I now plan to watch it in peace this Saturday though.

The one thing I think everyone should understand though is that this sport needs to attract more people. Even if they are mildly to fully idiotic. The more people who watch, the more money for the sport. The more money for the sport the more athletes it attracts. Then we have the situation where boxing is full of talented fighters at every weight class (and especialy heavyweight) and more exciting fights. The way to get more of these fans is to have more fights like Pacquiao Morales. That fight is a FOTY candidate and should be. But there should be way more candidates in a tight race that the general public would want to watch. To rejuvinate the sport the heavyweight division has to be more appealing. We need to get more of the big guys into this sport. Start with the fat kids of America. We have an obesity problem, we might as well get something good out of it.

Yes. correct Krew. You are a real boxing analyst who actually knows about boxing. You belong in a boxing forum. Weekend fans do not. IMO.

Thats a pretty ignorant thing to say most people who are in boxing forums are not anylists. The reason people join forums is to learn more about boxing or just talk about it for fun.

And I was directing those earlier statements to people who think they know boxing, when they are not the least bit involved. I might have offended you, because you strike me as one of those people. Sorry.

im a boxer myself and know a lot about boxing but i cant agree with you runw/kife it is because of people like you that boxing is not a sport for everyone as it used to be
if people that new te ins and out of say soccer were aloud to watch it then it would not be the biggest sport in the world of which is it
having an attitude like that eman that every day fans could not get that chance to learn about it in the first

The popularity of boxing began its decline shortly after the television came out. Before that the club shows, being boxings training grounds for young boxers, thrived from public attendance and gate reciepts. After a while the public just figured, Hey why would I spend $10 on a fight ticket when I can now watch boxing for free on television 3 nights a week.

During this time an organization called the I.B.C was heavily involved in boxing and even more so on the television. They held control over many of the big fight venues, the fighters, as well as royaltys from the television transmission.

Then somebody had the brilliant idea of closed circuit broadcastings from movie houses and theatres acrossed the country. We'll talk about that another time.

Well, at this time the I.B.C was brought down for monopolistic practices by John Q law and it was brought out in the open for everybody to see that the mob was definately heavily involved with the sport. Through many court hearings and depositions the world found out about the workings of the game from the back side and no longer felt comfortable sitting ring side to be seen with mob members and the such.

That was boxings first black eye and that eye is still swollen today. While a Muhammad Ali or an Oscar Delahoya may come around every so often to again get the general publics attention, boxing will always be in the rut that it is in unless something is done to revive the local shows. There is no fight to be seen like a live fight, there is just no comparison between stting in front of your television or sitting 15 rows back getting hit with the occasional bead of flying sweat. But the people choose to sit in the comfort of their own homes instead of helping fund the club show.

Until the club show boxing can be fully revived we will not see the qauntity of good fighters again. Back in the 40's and 50's a fighter could make a living because there were so many boxing clubs and shows to work with, there was a large cicuit. Today there might be 1 or 2 shows a month in areas other than LasVegas, Newyork, and Florida.

Television killed most of the boxing stars..............Rockin'
