Sorry but my knoweledge about the prestige of each federation is a bit foggy. Where does the IBF rank in importance? Is it just another alphabet belt, or is it one of the major ones?

Recently, the Monte Barrett-Owen Beck fight was an IBF Eliminator. Haven't heard of Chris Byrd scheduling Monte yet, though...

Where do you get that? There's no way to rank the feds because it varies by weight class...

It could be argued that Most people recognize Vitali as the champ at heavy (WBC); Braithwaite at cruiser (WBC); Glen Johnson at light heavyweight (no major belt); Jeff Lacy (IBF) or Joe Calzaghe (WBO) at super middle; Hopkins at middle (all belts, except for WBA where he is "super champ" - which makes the WBA probably the worst belt of the big 4 in my eyes, with all this "super" nonsense); Winky Wright at super welter (WBA "super" champ); Judah at welter (WBC, IBF, WBA "super"); Tszyu at junior welter (IBF); Corrales (WBO) or Castillo (WBC) at lightweight; Barrera at super feather (WBC); Marquez at feather (IBF, WBA "super"); Marquez at 118 (IBF) - and the others I can't really determine, though the only guy HBO bothers to show at 105 holds the WBO belt (Calderon)

I think it's hard to rank the belts considering all the above mess...

They also have Mayweather ahead of Tszyu at 140, so that shows you how silly their rankings are. If I remember right, they use some point system.

....boxrec has a funky system that is all computer based like the frickin RPI. Strength of opponent, record in last several fights, etc. etc. It doesn't take into account public opinion, close decision wins that maybe the person should have lost, or loses that may not have shown up on your record if not for a freak injury. By that rating system a guy like Byrd gets the nod over a guy like Vitali even though he has been less than stellar in his last several fights. Vitali gets no credit for his great performance against Lennox or his dominating performances since. I don't put much stock in Boxrec rankings and take them for what they are.

chris byrd has that win over vitali so the comp puts him ahead and ruiz has all them gift descions over fights that actually imo r pretty good and were high ranked at the time. we all know vitali is the champ we can and will destory all

I think it is disgraceful that the IBF go along with the demands of HBO. Wlad has not earned an eliminator for a title, he was luckly to win his last fight, the guy seems to fear fighting a puncher and HBO wanna get all they can out of the white hope, probably want to make him fight his brother because it`ll sell ( although they claim it will never happen! ).
Wlad is not deserving of this fight and i hope he loses so he`ll be finished.

I say Wlad deserves the shot over Barrett for the same reasons you do, because he could actually beat him. I think Monte deserves a shot as well, but I see a 12 round UD for Chris Byrd followed by a "i'll fight anyone, anywhere speech. :rolleyes:

I agree Barrett probably deserves a shot at Byrd's title strictly from the standpoint that he is ranked higher than Wlad according to the IBF. But if Byrd defeats Barrett and Wlad defeats his next opponent, Byrd will have no one to hide behind, he'll have no other choice but to face Wlad.

Why does Barrett deserve a shot, when Wlad completely annihalated his ass. Barrett is not a worthy contender IMO. He is one of the biggest bums in the heavyweight division. He almost lost to one of the biggest C class fighters in Owen "what the heck" Beck. Not to mention "Baby Joe" Mesi. Another C class fighter.
