Many members are new to the sport and just want some good sound training tips/advice. I have put together vids that walks you through from beginning to end. Many of you have probably already seen these vids, but it's a good refresher course for some that already have the basics down after having been out of the gym for some time. Russ Anber does a great job of walking us through the mechanics of each boxing punch and goes over some situational aspects of the sweet science.

For those who do not have access to an overpriced MMA gym(since they seem to be the only ones around these days). In order for the beginning boxer to benefit from these vids I'm putting up, you must follow it in the order I posted them, step-by-step as I'm showin' em. I'll tell y'all this, you will not get this kind of instructional training in most gyms! and that includes one-on-one training sessions with a trainer who is most likely just out for a quick buck!!

The first vid is probably the most important part in all of boxing, outside from keeping the hands up, w/o the proper stance and footwork punches cannot be executed properly and you will not be able to harness the power without the coordination of your lower limbs.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gAB-BG1B-78&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gAB-BG1B-78&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Once you've gotten a good feel for your stance, the next thing is how to properly execute the jab!

The 3rd one is my favorite punch, it is the same punch that has earned $$$$$$ for the current P4P King Manny PAC. Introducing the straight-punch!

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DB1RtID1js0&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DB1RtID1js0&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Next up, is the weapon of choice by Mexican fighters, it has also been dubbed as the "liver punch", it was Joe Frazier's $$$ punch, the lead-hand hook.

Now, Russ Anber has shown us the proper mechanics of each punch, it is time to put what we've learned to the test. Lets put the punches together, in boxing, it is called combination punching "stringing punches together"!!

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bRhomSoouT4&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bRhomSoouT4&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Okay, now that we've learned how to put our punches together. Lets learn how to defend them. On these vids, Anber shows us how to defend each punch in a number of ways, so as to not be predictable.

First, is how to defend the jab!

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xvqJXIj7TTU&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xvqJXIj7TTU&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Next up, is how to defend against the straight-punch!

Last but not least, how to defend against the most dangerous punch of 'em all, the uppercut!

Now, lets review the different ways of defending each punch. There's parrying, blocking, slipping, weaving and simply stepping out of the way of an incoming punch!

In this vid, Anber reviews the different ways to defend each punch and how to counter-off of 'em.

The vid below, Anber shows us how to close the distance on an opponent. There's just one thing that Anber missed on this video though, where was the jab?

THE LOST ART OF BODY PUNCHING

First up, is how to throw the straight-punch to the body and how to defend against it.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uRrkk3uhlbQ&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uRrkk3uhlbQ&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

3rd one, and the deadliest punch of them all, Iron Mike made this punch a household name. How to throw the uppercut on the inside

4th one, is "shoe-shinin". * Personally, I am not a big fan of shoe-shinin', it's kind of dangerous, only those exceptionally fast fighters can pull it off consistently, such as Ray Leonard and Roy Jones Jr. Generally fighters are better off sitting on their punches and throw the combos.

HOW TO MOVE THE HEAD PROPERLY, ANOTHER LOST ART IN BOXING !

First up, is the slip line for bobbing under hooks(think Rocky IV when he was working in the back country of Russia)

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D04vV-uTljA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D04vV-uTljA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

HOW TO USE THE MAIZE BAG(popularized by none other than Mike Tyson) The person demonstrating on how to use the maize bag is no Mike Tyson, but, he does do a good job of explaining the basics.

thanks for the videos.....for the most part i agree with everything he says...however...hiS description of the mechanics behind the jab i differ with....there is a diffence between theory and practice....n i understand what he means about getting into position first with the feet n then jabbing....however, while this can be acheived at times....it is most often not the case.....especially when there are certain physical differences between fighters that will dictact other jab mechanics to be used other then what this coach has described....whats ironic is that even though this is what he teaches, i have seen some of his own fighters not use the jab in the way he teaches in this video...it isnt practical for the most part....it is however good to use on occasion just to switch up ur jabbing rhythm....but it is not the main tool to use...there are ways of pushing off the back foot while moving forward that do not comprimise balance at all...u can use quick micro steps forward while throwing several jabs to cut down space safely...n i argue this is more safe then just STEPPING INTO SOMEONE ELSES RANGE FIRST,NAKED WITHOUT THE JAB..TO THEN JAB WHILE U ARE CLEARLY IN SOMEONE ELSES RANGE AS WELL...it is better to start off outside someone elses range n close that distance down quickly n behinD the safety of an offensive move(JAB)...plus the weight that is transferred into the jab while pushing off the back foot and micro stepping forward is priceless.....there are several types n methods of jabs...learn n use them all.....ITS ALL ABOUT THE EDUCATED LEFT HAND....but this jab shown here will get a beginners head takin off...lol....I.M.O.....

oh yeah..also..i dont agree with soley slapping down upper cuts...this can leave u very vulnerable.....if u are reaching down or out to block or catch punches....what happens if its a feint?????...u ar totally open on the side ur hand reached out on.....this method of reaching out to catch block or parry does have a place...but its a small place n for advanced fighters...it is not fundemental n should not be learned first....fundementally u wanna use a defense that leaves u defensivly intact WHILE U ARE USING IT...THATS THE POINT!!!!...u dont wanna be more vulnerable while u are the process of protecting urself...if u are blocking the right uppercut, its safer to slightly raise the left hand til it is just behind the left ear, while turning in (slightly toward ur right) while bringing the left forearm n elbow in as well....this way u are taking away the middle lane where the upper cut travels, while ur turning in ur chin gets tucked into ur left shoulder, n ur left forearm and left elbow are in position to block ur oppenents right uppercut..(but not only the uppercut but the hook on that side too,in case someone doubles up on the same side or u miss gauge the punch coming at u).......n the opposite mechanice is true for the left uppercut...hope this can be helpful

I was also gonna put up Freddie Roach's segment on how to use the heavybag, but that's also not available for embedding.
