We all know the epics but what fights do you love that get little mention?

Let's not try and be too obscure and go with fights only serious collectors and historians may know.

My pick is Dave "Boy" Mcauley vs Fidel Bassa (i forget the exact year - 80's) in an unbelievable up and down thriller.

Interested to hear your thoughts on any others but love to hear from anyone who saw the one I mentioned.

I remember Bassa McCauley.. Sure they had 2 fights for one of the flyweight titles, the first being a draw and the second was won by Bassa on a late TKO.. Can recall plenty of KD's, but I can't remember what fight was the better one..

Think the 2nd was good but didn't quite reach the heights of Number 1.

One of my first fight memories along with Colin Jones/Don Curry and a very vague recollection of Larry Holmes - Ah the good ole days!

Nice list although I'd argue SRL/Hearns and Benn/Mclellan aren't overlooked.

Good shout re Eubank/Thompson 1. I was there for that fight (Hamed/Vasquez headlined) and it remains one of my favourite "i was there" fights.

Froch-Pascal was a relatively "unseen" fight and it was one of the best fights I've seen in the last 5 years. Seriously!

Hearns/Roldan - Both men rocked, historic fight, ends in style....

Medel/Jofre I - great two way action, both men hurt throughout....

Adamek/Briggs I & II - similar to the gatti/ward fights as far as two way action goes....

Minto/Maddalone I - toughman competition on crack, great ending....

Quartey/Espana - nice fight between two underrated welterweights....

Matthew Hilton-Buster Drayton: Great fifteen round war.

Bruce Curry-Monroe Brooks: Two tough guys slugging it out for contendership with a good knockout.

Aaron Davis-Mark Breland: Brutal war of attrition with great KO.

Frankie Duarte-Albert Davila II: Bloody fast paced war with many momentum changes. Great showing of heart by both men as well.

Orlando Canizales-Sergio Reyes I: Even though I thought that Reyes slugged his way to a clear victory over Canizales only to be robbed the entertainment of the fight cannot be denied.

Alfonso Zamora-Albert "Superfly" Sandoval: Fast paced fight where both guys get rocked.

Simon Brown-Tyrone Trice: Great back and forth war for the vacant IBF welterweight title.

Rafael Ruelas-Freddie Pendelton: Great lightweight fight, Ruelas gets off the deck twice in the first round and wins the fight barely by a great late round surge.

Micky Ward-Reggie Green: Great Espn fight, clash of styles that meshed well, in the end Ward just outwilled Green.

Leonard Dorin-Raul Balbi I-II: Both of their fights were entertaining, bloody and hard fought.

Carl Thompson-Chris Eubank I-II: Both fights were hard fought wars witht the bigger Thompson being ROCKED in both.

Caveman Lee-John LiCicero: Probably the greatest free TV fight ever.

Kevin Kelley-Troy Dorsey: Over 2000 punches thrown in this barnburner.

That was a great fight as well as Pascal's fight with Diaconu. Here is one that a few of you might remember, Fernando Montiel-Luis Melendez on the Vs Network. The fight was a brutal twelve round slugfest where both men hit the canvas, Montiel looked like he was going to lose until he rallied late and stopped Melendez. I don't remember much about the undercard, Vanes Matiryosan fought some guy named Dan and this might of been the night that Antillon stopped B. Pacquiao (though I am not sure). Vs cards are probably the best in boxing today (except for Tye Fields).

Really, any fight with Bobby Chacon or Matthew Saad Muhammad can't go wrong. Someone in charge of classic sports programming at a sports TV network should get a list of the fights in this thread.

Mosquera's fight with Nanthachai was a war as well.

Iran Barkley also had good fights with Robbie Simms and Eddie Hall, he was just all action all of the time.

Antwaun Echols had a good fight with Charles Brewer, got off of the deck three times to stop Brewer in the next round.

Barkley was just an entertaining fighter, I don't think he was ever in a boring fight.

Yeah, Echols-Brewer was a dandy, heck of a comeback from Echols but considering how hurt he was when he was down 3 times, it can be argued that the stoppage was a little quick, Brewer started protesting right away.

Haven't seen the Mosquera-Nanthachai fight, I'll be sure to look out for it.

I just had a lot of free time. :lol1: Can't be picky about what fights you watch, I pretty much watched every fight that I could find when I had more time both to study the fighters and to see if that fight was a good one.

Just this year there have been some really good fights that people seldom talk about like

Anthony Mundine vs Daniel Geale
Martin Rogan vs Sam Sexton
Martin Rogan vs Matt Skelton
Nathan Cleverly vs Danny McIntosh (A little one sided but hey)
Simone Califano vs Pasqual Di Silvio
Giacobbe Fragomeni vs Kryzstof Wlodarczyk
Carlos Abregu vs Irving Garcia
Jon Thaxton vs Tom Glover
Danny Williams vs Carl Baker

I hear the recent Ryan Rhodes vs Jamie Moore fight was a great one but I haven't watched it yet.

Yeah, that was the fight that convinced me that Canizales had some of the best footwork I've seen, the guy was moving in and out, little steps to the side etc. beautiful footwork.

Hearns vs Kinchen. I had it a lot closer than the judges had it, not that Kinchen won many that! rounds but he scored a KD and Hearns had a point taken in that round to make it 10/7 round. I gave Kinchen 5 rounds but some of those were sympathy rounds

I had it a draw in the end but if pushed to give it to someone i would have given it to Hearns because he won more rounds, that KD & the point taken is what made the fight closer.

There are plenty of fights which were higher profile in the past but get mentioned little by the average boxing fan. Arguello-Escalera II, Chacon-Limon IV, Carbajal-Gonzalez I, etc.

Were fighters like Chacon and Danny Lopez ever in a bad fight? God, they are fun to watch!

Anyways, there are much much more. Some of these fights get mentioned more than others but are still mentioned too little IMO. There should really be a sticky in the History Section about this kind of stuff, like a 'fights you have to watch before you die' thread.

A couple of fights on your list that I remember particularl fondly are:

Mark Kaylor-Errol Christie- Both fighters rocked heavily in the first round and it is war for the rest of the fights, Christie hits the deck a couple of more times later in the fight and it is stopped brutally. Kaylor's fans were going to be so rowdy for that fight that they were denied alchohol but they were still setting of firecrackers in the arena among other things, they were about as rowdy as a Tijijuana crowd.

Orlando Canizales-Kelvin Seabrooks- This is a textbook performance from Canizales, breaking an opponent down throughout the fight, he had such blazingly fast feet and the angles were just beautiful. I remember the crowd got excited when Seabrooks landed those rights in the third but they didn't even phase Orlando, he was in the zone that night.

Simon Brown-Tyrone Trice- I watched that fight earlier today and it is still as entertaining as ever, I enjoyed the late 80's-early 90's welters much more than DLH, Quartey, Trinidad and the others.

Kaylor-Christie was a great fight, they genuinely didn't like each other and it told during the fight and the crowd was electric which contributed to the excitement.

For sure that was one of Canizales' best performances, he was brilliant that night, Seabrooks, as was often the case with him, fought back valiantly. Seabrooks was like a small version of Matthew Saad Muhammad, rarely in a boring fight.

Brown-Trice 1 might have been one of the better welterweight title fights I have ever seen, great action and very good technique from both guys. Trice was fighting on instincts for the last few rounds of the fight.

I just had a lot of free time. :lol1: Can't be picky about what fights you watch, I pretty much watched every fight that I could find when I had more time both to study the fighters and to see if that fight was a good one.

Just this year there have been some really good fights that people seldom talk about like

Anthony Mundine vs Daniel Geale
Martin Rogan vs Sam Sexton
Martin Rogan vs Matt Skelton
Nathan Cleverly vs Danny McIntosh (A little one sided but hey)
Simone Califano vs Pasqual Di Silvio
Giacobbe Fragomeni vs Kryzstof Wlodarczyk
Carlos Abregu vs Irving Garcia
Jon Thaxton vs Tom Glover
Danny Williams vs Carl Baker

I hear the recent Ryan Rhodes vs Jamie Moore fight was a great one but I haven't watched it yet.

I have seen these and the the Rhodes fight they were good fights, Rhodes really took Moore's legs away with that right hand to the point of the chin

Yeah, Moore showed great courage coming back the way he did after the knockdown but it wasn't enough, he was breathing through his mouth by round 4.

I don't think it's a good fight for Chavez Jr. to take so I wouldn't be surprised if Top Rank passes on that fight, plus they're lining him up to fight Duddy next year first and there's no guarantee that Chavez Jr. will get past that with his undefeated record intact.

Razor vs Bonecrusher was an excellent, pulsating fight. First Bonecrusher sends Ruddock flying against the canvas in the second, then Razor takes over and blasts him away in the 7th. Razor Ruddock was a gift to heavyweight boxing, only a shame he didn't last longer as a top contender.
