View Full Version : Is it ok that i used to occasionally drink and smoke?
gratz_the_king 10-21-2009, 11:47 AM im 22 years old . will be 23 soon.
i havent had a drink officially since june 2008 aside from maybe 1.5 beers within that time. i havent smoked anything since may 2007
but back in those days when i was younger, i would often go to bars and get wasted. i used to have a very high tolerance for alchohol so i would drink alot. one night in particular i took 11 shots of patron within a half hour span just to get warmed up, and then a bunch of other drinks. another night in particular on halloween my friend dressed up as a functioning keg lol. we filled him up with southern comfort and i pretty much drank the entire bottle by myself as well as other drinks. so yea, i used to drink alot.
i never smoked officially, but i smoked cigarettes/cigars here and there a few times in my life, as well as weed.
ive only done 2 "hardcore" drugs in my life but both had no effect on me whatsoever since the dosage was so small (half an extasy pill for example)
mainly i was a drinker, but i stopped everything all together. now i just train about 4-5 days a week. my drug now is probably desserts lol, but i try to avoid them as well.
do you think this was bad that i did this? will i be ok in the future in terms of cardio, etc. ? im not proud of what i did in the past and wished i had better guidance . let me know what you think! did i damage my body too much?
Stevie_WONDER.. 10-21-2009, 11:53 AM nope none of that is permanent, hard drugs are a different story..
mrboxer 10-21-2009, 12:23 PM you do not need any drugs stay away from drugs, when people are young most will try anything, but you seem that you over came this ganja habit of yours so stay away from drugs:boxing:
sukhenkoy 10-21-2009, 12:28 PM You're basically starting over so I don't see why what you did in the past should affect your training performance right now. If you don't do this stuff while you train (which it sounds like you aren't), it shouldn't be a problem.
gratz_the_king 10-21-2009, 01:01 PM i know but i still regret the fact that i was so young and stupid to ever try this kinda stuff. i just hope it doesnt come back to bite me in the future in regards to regular health and also training
no need to tell me to stay away, i will never have another drink or any kinda of drug/cigarette for the rest of my life. i just wish i had this mentality when i was younger
Stevie_WONDER.. 10-21-2009, 01:20 PM theres nothing wrong with alcohol on the weekend:) well...not alot

i don't regret having a bit of fun when i was younger at all. if you really train hard it matters for nothing. I had so much fun when i was partying so alot of good memories.
George W Bush 10-22-2009, 02:38 AM You're fine dude.
if u are going to do anything detrimental to the body, best time to do it is when you are young, your body has the capacity at that point to recover efficiently and is able to handle more abuse as opposed to when one is old, where one's body is already in the process of breaking down
the dogger 10-24-2009, 06:43 AM You should be fine. I went to mountain climbing with some friends after I quit smoking and found it far easier at high altitude than my none smoking pals. I also did not tired as fast either.
I spoke with a doctor and he said my lungs had gottton used to having less oxygen due to my smoking. After a while that stage past but I still felt much better for quitting smoking.
As for drink, does your pal still have the costume????

don't worry too much about it man, that in itself could make you ill!! Most of us have done that **** when we wer young, it's part of growing up. At least you realised it was wrong and made the required life changes. I say well done pal. A lot of people carry on doing that stuff way too long.

Sergio Martinez 10-26-2009, 10:20 PM If you box, and want to achieve something in your career, don't touch drugs, alcohol, or smoke.
Be a leader for yourself, and don't follow what your ''mates'' do.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Smoking is just all poision and you shound't touch it, in my opinion.
These 3 things have ruined some great fighters over the years.
